BEWARE: I have revived comments stating that people are attempting to wire up their Netgear boxes in the same configuration that I am (White striped wire = -negative and black wire with lettering = +Positive) and they are burning up their Netgear boxes.
The configuration I am using has worked for myself and several people. Some reports state that the wires are reversed (Black wire with lettering = -negative and white striped wire = +positive).
Because of this, I can no longer say with certainty which wire configuration to use for YOUR setup. I apologize for this inconvenience. This is a Netgear discrepancy.
If you’re wondering how you can avoid spending a TON of money on a networking box because you don’t have enough panoptix/network connections in your garmin graphs. DO THIS!
This works for any graph for a network/Ethernet connection port.
I was able to network my garmin echomap 93sv graphs together using this!
VERY IMPORTANT INFO ⬇️
If you decide to hardwire the power cord for the Netgear hub, the black wire with white stipes Is the negative wire!
BLACK WITH WHITE STRIPES = NEGATIVE/GROUND WIRE!!!

For anybody looking to do this, you can get VERY cheaply get USB powered network switches. Having just snagged two $299 Echomap 74xsv from West Marine (crazy sale), I just bought a 3 port on Amazon for seven bucks, and plugged it into an SAE 12v to USB phone charger I already had on hand. Plugged in my LiveScope black box (the OG, from my icefishing rig) and it works a treat. For what it is worth, cables don't seem to matter; I tried one crossover cable and one regular old cat6 cable, and both seem to work great.

I am getting ready to do this and have watched several video's on the ethernet cables and the various "hubs". The only thing I can make out is that the Garmin Ethernet cables have the water proof connectors but not sure if they have marine grade wire even though it says marine cable. Soo I am assuming(yep I know) that they do... they better for $47... The hub, I'm with you, for $20 you can buy a cheap water proof box and about 10 more of the hubs if they go out. Good video and thanks.
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
You may get away with using an Ethernet cable just fine. I only have garmin network cables on mine. The screw lock keeps the Ethernet cable mounted in your graph. Not sure how well a regular Ethernet cable would hold up.
@josiahbuck2562
@josiahbuck2562 Месяц назад
I watched another video that only said you need a ethernet cable to connect both of the graphs to run lives scope on both of them at the same time

Garmin 93sv graphs only have one network/panoptix port.

One more question, Does this configuration share all of the other data and features that would normally be shared between head units? Such as tranducer info from the traditional sonar transducer and also mapping and waypoints?
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
Yes, it shares everything.

What fuse size do you use for net gear and which wir is + and -
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
It’s in the description. Black with white stripes is the negative wire. I used a 3 amp fuse. Just make sure you have a 12 volt battery you’re powering it with.

I bought Cat 6 cables at Walmart... will I need to wire them crossover or will straight through work with this netgear box? Thanks

Sorry man, I’m not educated enough on that subject to answer that completely. I used garmin network cables directly from my livescope black box and or garmin graph to the netgear box.

would this work for a 73sv on the bow and a 106 on the console ? the 106 has 2 ports and the 73 only one , i want to keep the bigger unit on the console
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
@belowaveragebassfisherman574 7 месяцев назад
Yes, you won’t even need a network box because you have two network plugs on the 106. You will plug your livescope into the 106 via the livescope network cable and then run a garmin network cable from the other port on the 106 to the 73sv. They will link together without the box as long as they are both powered on. However, If you are using livescope, I would advise using the 73sv on the console and the 106 at the bow. You’ll want as much screen as possible if you’re looking at a livescope while fishing.

So is there any particular way to hook up the network wires to this?
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
So it’s the same connection as a regular network cable except instead of the tiny clip on the connector, the garmin cable has a threaded/waterproof cap. I pushed the network cables into the back of the box and I held them in place to the netgear box using black electrical tape so that they will not pull out or fall out and lose connection. I’ve had good success with this method and have not lost any connections.

If it has the panoptix port on the back of the graph to accept an Ethernet cable then it will work.

I have tried two of these exact net gear box’s wired how your description says and both times they smoked and burned the inside of the box. Any idea why I know practically nothing about wiring so it’s probably an issue on my end.
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
@belowaveragebassfisherman574 11 месяцев назад
I’m sorry to hear that is happening to you. That is really strange. If you go watch my garmin livescope install video at 8:25, you will see I have it rigged up with the black wire with white stripes as the negative wire. I’ve been running it like that since I made the video. If your power source/battery is too high in voltage, the same thing will occur.

@@belowaveragebassfisherman574 is that hooked straight to a 12v power source ? Or is there some kind of breaker or power damper?

@@kaibarnett9757 it is powered by my 12 Volt cranking battery. I do, however, have a 5 amp fuse in the line. Check out my garmin install video and it will clarify it. I have it rigged to a switch and then to a fuse block.

where did you get network cables with small end on one side large on the other
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
I’m not sure what you mean. Both ends of the network cable are the same Ethernet style plug.

It’s just a garmin network cable. It has a Ethernet connection on both ends.

just purchased this netgear 5 port. the wall plug power adapter converts to 5v. All of the tracker batts are 12v. any issues with heat or burning up the netgear box? its over 2x the voltage! i don't want to start a fire in my boat!! hahahahhaha!
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
The black box that plugs in to the wall should be a 12v converter. It may say it on the box itself or in the package with your netgear box. Mine was marked as a 12V wall plug.
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
However, if your’s is 5 volts, I can’t say how it will handle a 12 volt power source. Mine works fine though.

Thank you for getting back to me! This was my first livescope install and it’s all new to me Sorry I was confused as to which cables were network cables I was thinking of the NMEA as the network and was unaware that the port on the black box literally says network. I just installed everything exactly as you did and it’s working great as of now, thank you man!
@belowaveragebassfisherman574
@belowaveragebassfisherman574 3 месяца назад
oh yeah, no problem. It can be confusing for sure. You may secure your network cables into your netgear box with some electrical tape. Looks a little janky but it works. I’ve seen other people get real creative and use a small plastic tackle storage box to secure the netgear box and drill holes for the network cables running into it.

Real question is can you use the HDMI to CAT5 adapter to be able to get it to a TV
@elmore119
@elmore119 4 месяца назад
Plug the Tx (transmit) which you would leave that one off and just plug ethernet port in to the graph or networking box and then put the adapter piece on ethernet to HDMI which would be the Rx (Receive) so basically you would probably just need the one that's labeled RX think that would work
