Welcome Tourette, the adorable new member of "Neurodiverse Friends" with Pixi & co. - Cats on the Spectrum. In this episode, we explore the difference between tics and stims. While stimming, common in autism, is a voluntary self-regulatory behavior, tics, more prevalent in Tourette syndrome, are involuntary.
Story, Design, and Animation: Luca Fattore
Music: Ratatouille's Kitchen - Carmen María and Edu Espinal

A neat detail, not sure if it's intended or not, but the tourette's cat is the only one of the neurodivergent cast with a visible mouth while casually idling, since it's the source of what makes them special. And when they sit next to the other two at 0:29 you'll notice their mouth disappears for a moment almost as if they're trying to hide it after being shunned so many times because of it

I'm autistic and stopped stimming for years because I always got into trouble for it. My mum scolded me for "behaving like a child", other kids made fun of me, teachers scolded me for distracting everyone, etc. The result were crippling anxiety, an eating disorder, biting my lips and fingernails and having more meltdowns. Now that I finally unmasked and stim the way I feel comfortable with, most of my issues slowly faded away. Stimming is important and nobody deserves to be made fun of for it. Neither deserve people with tourette syndrome to be bullied or shunned for their tics.

@Foxtrox7616
@Foxtrox7616 Месяц назад
@@RaindropsBleeding Do you know how "people under stress" supposedly move? Like rocking back and forth, or fondling your fingers, and many more? Well, it's been associated with stress reaction or "tell", but really it's likely just stimming that yes, might be from stress, but also just a normal activity for certain people. Sucks for us, because if it's used to analyze suspicious people during interrogations, we're probably doomed
@madeliner1682
@madeliner1682 Месяц назад
@foxtrox7616 we all doomed anyway. Body language interrogation analysis is kind of borderline pseudoscience, and channels that do that pretty much never analyze people who aren't already convicted of a crime. Like, no one *isn't* going to be stressed when talking to a homicide detective, guilty or not. (the strategy of what questions to ask can be interesting, or what defense someone's going for based on how they answer - it's just the body language part that doesn't hold up under scrutiny. You'd have to compare it to how that specific individual acts under other circumstances, and a lot of different self-soothing behavior is labeled as defensive or otherwise obnoxious even on guilty people in that type of content) also - related tangent - polygraphs are BULLSHIT. In order to pass a polygraph you have to have the same physiological reaction between "what's the weather like lately" and "imagine if you were the one who murdered your life partner". The state that makes you """pass""" isn't even the state an innocent person would be in; they are only useful as props to trick people into confessing

The fact that Autism let the other Big cat (i don't know their name) touched freely it's ears show me how much comfortable it's with them. And it's true! please bro. KEEP DOING THEM. And of course, people in the 80s or 90s who have tourette syndrome would have not have any friends because normal people would think of them as "weird" There is a movie about a kid who has Tourettes. Throughout his life he has been in many hardships because of Tourettes, even his dad did not like him before he discovered he had it. But he eventually became a teacher. But hey, people on the autism spectrum can become good friends with people with Tourette's Syndrome. Just like it is show in this animation, just incredible man.

i both tic and stim, and this is a great way to represent it!! while stimming can sometimes feel necessary and is somewhat difficult to not do, tics are something that is uncontrollable and involuntary. while you can suppress tics, they’re an uncontrollable, repetitive movement and can cause injury to the person ticcing or those around them :)

I have ADHD and I make friends with people that are neurodiverse more easily to. I also find that the few romantic relationships I've had have been with people with disorders of some sort. I've been with this amazing lady that has DID (disassociate identity disorder) who had 6 different alters each with their own personalities and names. There's a popular movie that attempts to portray this disorder called "Split". I'm not sure if you've heard of it but of course they make the main character with DID into a bad guy who turns into some sort of monster or something so I really don't know what they were thinking, but they got the general idea of it down at least. However with the case of my ex, whenever an alter "fronts" (or takes over, fronting is another word for it), it's usually because she's involved in a situation she doesn't want to be in, is extremely uncomfortable or if she's really comfortable and feels safe enough a specific alter fronts which is the little girl alter. If I remember correctly she's between 6-8 years old (obviously not my ex lol she's in her 20's) but her childlike alter is. When we first met though her male, very protective alter would front a lot which I understood completely because when I meet someone new I'm more reserved and guarded as well. Idk it's like people with disorders are easier for me to talk to and relate with. Sorry for the long message btw I just thought I'd share my experience to not that I wanna make it about myself... People probably think I'm selfish because I relate whatever they say with things in my own life and experiences but it's really the only way I can really understand something is if it relates to irl situations.😅 My bad.
