I’m a school psychologist and it takes three years to get our masters. Yes the two years for the schooling and one year for the internship but we still take classes during the third year. In California at least we take the praxis and then get certified by the California teaching commission CTC. The NCSP is a NASP accreditation for masters and doctoral degrees but it’s not required to get a job it’s more of an add on to make a more desirable applicant in my opinion. Also some programs you get an MA and Eds. But anyways came here to see how I could become a neuropsychologist I figured that’s the next step since I deal with cognitive behaviors. Thanks for explaining the differences between the 3.

I'm glad you liked the video, and best of luck in pursuing the neuropsychology career, I might be biased but I think there's some great benefits and pros to it!

Awesome video! Very informative, thanks for taking the time to make it. Could you do a video on psychopharmacology as a specialization, what they do in research or what they do as a career?

I like kids..but I don't like the system. My background dictates the rec letters... I've worked at schools and colleges. I'm not sure if I can parlay k to 12 and student affairs rec letters into counseling psych applications 🙃🤔. Any thoughts?

Hey good video. Can PHD neuropsychologists also do psych evals or any kind of therapy type work? Or is it more medical diagnostic focused/or teaching in a university. Also is it harder to get a job in neuropsych vs clinical? Which typically have a higher salary? Thank you so much!

Hello! A neuropsychologist whether PhD/PsyD, can do everything that a psychologist or a therapist can do. Neuropsychologists are basically clinical psychologists with more training in neuropsychology, so they are trained just like psychologists to do psych evals and therapy. In fact, many neuropsychologists will do a few days just doing therapy with clients and a few days just doing neuropsych testing/assessment. I'd say there is a need for both fields in getting a job, both are in pretty high demand, and jobs come easily because of the need for both. Since neuropsych involves more training they tend to have a higher salary, but either one can make about the same amount in private practice. Hope that helps!

I have a question. If you want to be a neuropsychologist. Regardless of the two paths you mentioned, you’ll have the same competences or they have different ones? Can a neuropsychologist that went into a neuropsych program instead of a clinical one conduct therapy? And diagnose and treat patients? Just as the clinical neuropsychologist would do?

Great question. Yes, both paths are the same in terms of competencies in the U.S., they just offer different ways to get to the same end goal. Every neuropsychologist regardless of the program they went into will get training in therapy whether its a neuropsych or clinical psych program. Both can do the same things, see the same patients, do testing, assessment, evaluations, therapy, etc. Hope that helps!

if you obtain a psy d in school psychology can you also take the eeep to get licensed as a clinical psychologist as well?
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd Год назад
That is a great question!! To be honest I'm not exactly sure, I think it might depend on the specific school specializations for school psychology and the state regulations for the certification. I hope to have a school psychologist on the channel and talk more about these differences, so stay tuned!

You can move from a bachelor degree to a PhD without a Masters?
@philsguidetopsyd
@philsguidetopsyd 10 месяцев назад
Specifically in the U.S., international countries like the U.K., Europe or Australia might differ. But yes in the U.S. if you have a competitive gpa, gre score, clinical/research experience, etc. you can go directly into a clinical psychology PhD without a masters

Either one can be helpful but typically neuropsychologists have more training than psychologists regarding testing and assessment of ADHD
