Lol I live in Canada so or temperature is different and it can go to minus 40 and it’s crazy cold I started a few days ago and just have a bin outside and use that no matter the temperature unless minus 40 lol to put that into perspective I went in at minus 19 this morning which is 14 Fahrenheit
@@claytontoews9317 how is it nice a frozen bucket at those temps???! Im over a month in now, havent missed a morning... 40' now for 3 minutes each day, love it, so energizing!
On vaca in cottage country Ontario Canada Muskoka lake. As a newbie first 20 sec is fuxxing brutal . If you can make it to a minute you'll feel like a demigod when you come out.
The running water of a cold shower is brutal. We have a well and the water is extremely cold and when I hold my head under the cold water of a shower for more than 20 seconds it physically hurts my head. I wonder if this is good for your brain too? Because they only mention getting in to your chin… I do plunges too - I do cold plunge for 4 minutes then HIIT workout to break a sweat then cold shower. After all that I’m like a warrior! Been at it for over a week now. Getting easier, but that cold water is still a beast. I’m just learning to do it without over thinking. And, for the cold shower, I found that it’s more bearable if you just stay under the water the whole time (turning to wash of course) - just loving this - another way to increase vitality!
A couple of thoughts; I've herd freezing water on the face and head lowers anxiety. It's an ancestoral response to falling in cold water. A simple Google search will give good info. Secondly; there's evidence that freezing water on the head reduces inflammation around the brain and this could reduce depression symptoms.
What is the name of the peer reviewed study that is quoted here please? Struggling to find any studies that prove what people say about cold plunge that's properly researched based.
I just got one and have tried it 5 times so far but each time I’m in there my head feels like it’s about to explode then have a headache the remainder of the day. I’m hydrated, supplement with vitamin D daily and have also tried to quickly submerge my head at the beginning which I know Huberman has suggested to prevent this feeling from happening. None of the above works though! Really hoping someone has advice to prevent this from happening otherwise I need to go back to cold showers.
Might the water be too cold? So you can do the showers but the plunge is too much? Is the water temperature the same? Do you have a way to warm up the plunge water and see how you do with warmer water and then slowly progress to colder temps maybe?
That's exactly what I intend to do. I'm just waiting on a thermometer to come in the mail so I can get a good read on the plunge water as well as my shower. I'll start by boiling a full kettle and add that in the plunge and slowly decrease the amount I'm adding over time to get adjusted to it. That has to work.@@JoeyD386
We are a LINE-X shop and have had a huge explosion of applying LINE-X and color coding it for customers building their own DIY builds. They all say it really helps them mentally and physically.
I had a friend with a multiple head shower. The warm or cold could be adjusted by another person outside, Randomly. The natural world does not expect you to adjust the conditions. They are thrust upon you. Often randomly. The stress and anticipation of purposely going cold, steals thunder from the benefits. That was my experience.
Also a lot of the studies neglect exposing your head to the cold water as well due to safety concerns, but I must say that the effect is increased twofold if you just dare to shower your face and head with the cold water.
I just do poor man’s cold plunge which is alternating hot and cold shower. Hot shower first then follow by cold shower then back to hot shower then do it back and forth. It feels great especially as body is no longer of cold after coming out of the shower.
@@mmlnv2036 you get the best of both world with hot and cold. Heat up the body like sauna reduce risk of heart attack and the cold plunge benefit. After several alternating between hot and cold, the body will adjust and you can always end it with the cold shower if you want the cold to persist.
You probably don’t want to do it after a workout if you are trying to gain muscle. It can stunt the muscle growth up to 4 hours after workout because of the reduction of inflammation.
Didn't a new research proved that is not only useless, but also detrimental for bodybuilding? It slows muscle recovery considerably actually, so you'll have way less strength and resistance when the time for working out comes, and your will actually take way longer since you're not regenerating as fast as you could without it.
Detrimental ONLY if you plunge after lifting. Cold punging anytime before lifting is still beneficial overall and for whatever bodybuilding goals you have
