I came here for the band called Times of Grace, but honestly I'm glad I found this instead. This was really something else. Never heard anything like it.

I used to have a band rehearsal space in Oakland at the same place as Neurosis. We'd cut practice short many times and go huddle next to their door for a mini concert. Sooooo good.

@@hope_canyon If memory serves me correctly it was around 98-99. The whole complex would vibrate and roar with the ferocity of the mighty Neurosis. There was also a vending machine that had sodas for 75cents and a variety of flavors of corn nuts. That era in the Oakland music scene was untouchable. I believe that they played a lot of songs from this album and new ones as well.

I listened to Silver on schrooms once and haven't been the same since. There's something about the atmosphere and vocals that sends shivers up my spine and leaves me with a feeling of soothing anguish. These guys are genious.

People who think bands like Veil Of Maya and Born Of Osiris, among others, are heavy aren't in the know. This shit is more than a played drum beat/chug pattern that isn't really impressive anyway. This is real heavy music. This shit is dark, evil, and a release of internal chaos to say the least.

holy fuck though, this might be the heaviest neurosis song of all time. i can't even FATHOM seeing this live. i saw them last year and they played The Doorway and THAT was the heaviest thing i've ever seen in person. THIS, though. this is on a level that is hard to comprehend.

My band opened for them in Winnipeg during their "Times Of Grace" album tour. We played one of the best, heaviest sets we've ever played. Then Neurosis came on and turned us to dust. It was, without a doubt, the heaviest AND best show I've ever seen. Nah - it was a religious experience. Everyone is the venue - and I SERIOUSLY mean everyone - stood with their jaws dropped to the floor for the whole set. We all left in silence. The air had been sucked from our lungs. We all witnessed gods of metal that night.

Sounds like your suggesting that because its not fast, and doesn't have blast beats its not heavy.... Neurosis are bleak, raw, oppressing and sonically crushing. That's why they are truly one of the heaviest bands around..well that's my opinion anyway...

@@andreib2202 The snake is a reference to ouroboros - the snake of eternity. Culling the snake is taking control of one's own destiny. Which is a strike path to god - the manipulator of destiny. This requires the strength of will to face the challenges of forging one's own path - the wrath to survive. Walking one's own path will involve hardship and strife - suffering the viciousness of reality. To survive one must adapt, to be reborn anew. Purified by the fires of the forged path.

@thychaos A slow tempo is really what began to set the stage for heavy music (Black Sabbath). As far as the repetition, I don't think that is has any relevance in being heavy. This band is very deep and engulf you with powerful, furious, dark, and mournful emotions which are heavy as fuck to say the least. They put on some of the best live performances that I've seen.

I could tell you stories about Through Silver in Blood that could make your mom ban Neurosis from your player. I've encountered several bugged tracks scattered around the Net, RU-vid can't even upload the ending of the album, and Purify skipped on my computer but not on the actual CD. No other album has had so many oddities happen. And just wait until I tell you about LISTENING to the album.

sorry, i missed that you were just trolling. But just in case you're genuinely yelling "I DON'T LIKE THIS AND IT REMINDS ME OF THIS OTHER THING I DON'T LIKE SO THEY ARE THE SAME", "Metalcore" is a mixture of extreme metal and hardcore punk. It is generally fast past and contains a breakdown. Use of cello, and a building and brooding atmosphere don't seem to subscribe to that. Go back to your classic 80s metal and enjoy that instead and leave us to enjoy our folky sludge metal
