Legendary Nashville Songwriter. Hoyt Axton wrote this this song for Waylon also gave it to Three Dog Night. Honestly can't remember who recorded it first. "One" is an amazing song , but if you want more " DIRT" , check out " Liar " . You won't be sorry.

Axton's most lasting contributions were songs made famous by others: "Joy to the World" (Three Dog Night) and "Never Been to Spain" (Three Dog Night, Elvis Presley); "Greenback Dollar" (the Kingston Trio); "The Pusher" and "Snowblind Friend" (Steppenwolf); "No No Song" (Ringo Starr); and an array of others, covered by singers such as Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, John Denver, Waylon Jennings, Jonathan Edwards, Glen Campbell and Anne Murray. Axton also sang a couple of duets with Linda Ronstadt, including "Lion in the Winter" and "When the Morning Comes" (a top 40 country hit). His composition "Joy to the World", as performed by Three Dog Night, was No. 1 on the charts for six straight weeks in 1971, making it the top hit of the year. He named his record label Jeremiah after the bullfrog mentioned in the song.[2]

@@robertacolarette1594 Negron had the high tenor. Wells was the bluesy, soulful baritone. Danny Hutton had a gruffer baritone that rested higher than Wells'. Thus far, A&A have reacted to three Three Dog Night songs on which Wells sang lead, and one ("Joy to the World") on which Negron sang lead. You will continue being amazed as you hear more of their songs! “Liar” is an amazing song….. so is “Eli’s coming”… “Out in the country” The family of man”…”Pieces of April”…”Black and white”… “The show must go on” etc! Those 3 guys all had incredible voices. I saw them live several times. Such a talented group! Looking forward to more 3 dog night!!😀

Danny Hutton is on all the drugs in that video. He's high as a kite, drunk, on the ku-kain and probably trippin balls too. Zero in on him for that whole performance (hell, any live performance between 72-75) and it is hilarious to watch him. I'm sure his personal life was rough, but damn did he give it all and perform like a professional 70's rock star should.

Having lived in Oklahoma [but not born here] , for 30 yrs., I can attest to the love showered on these guys. Any oldies station has to have two or three of their songs on by noon. By the way, the band name is a reference to an old midwestern-ism,... in cold weather, you let the dog sleep on the bed, but if it's reeally cold, it's a 'three-dog-night'.
