NEVER LOSE YOUR GOPRO: Easy DIY Tether (or safety leash) for Your GoPro
GoPro 3M Adhesive Mounts are very strong, but the adhesive is not 100%. I have had two of the mounts get knocked off. Never lose your GoPro or other action camera with this easy DIY tether (safety leash). This tether will work on any model GoPro including the GoPro Hero 8, Hero 7, Hero 6 and below.
This tether will secure your GoPro to a whitewater rafting helmet, snowboarding helmet, or mountain biking helmet. It can also be used for water sports like waterskiing or jet skiing by tethering to a Life Vest or PFD or around your wrist.

Hi, Regarding the 10-12 gauge crimp terminal rings, what size would that be in millimetres? I live in Australia and would like to know the equivalent. Cheers mate!

I am not an expert, but a quick Google shows 10 gauge=2.59mm and 12 gauge=2.06mm. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Genius !!! I just watched 5 vidoes on best ways to mount my new GoPro10 to my ski helmut. My 1st action cam. I'm still worried about matching the curve of mount to the helmut. :( This cheap solution will let me ski agresively without worrying about loosing the camera in the snow. THANKS !!!!!!!

Cool, glad it will help out. Another thing I want to point out is GoPro's, ironically, do not do well in the cold. You would think they would be better seeing their founder is a snowboarder. I hike in the cold and keep the unit in my jacket until I need it. I also have a second warm battery in my jacket too. Some other people attach a chemical hand warmer to the unit. I have a Hero 8, maybe the 10 is better. Enjoy, the footage with new GoPro's with stabilization is sick.

If your knocking off those M3 mounts then you aint putting them on right, i put one on my motorbike helmet about 8 years ago, and its still on there rock solid today, and thats being knocked more times than i care to mention, plus the weather its being through.... The key to a good fixing, is cleaning the area with isopropanol first, allow to dry, then place the mount, hold firm for 5 minutes then let set for 24 hours in a warm dry environment, I dont think id want a GoPro swinging from my head by a tether, thats looking for trouble, not worth loosing your life over losing a GoPro
@OutsideChronicles
@OutsideChronicles 4 года назад
Thanks for the tip. I am guessing you are not rolling your motorcycle upside down and bouncing your helmet on rocks on the bottom of a river?
@wolfe1970
@wolfe1970 4 года назад
@@OutsideChronicles Granted i dont go rolling around on rocks like you do, but point i was making is you would have to rip the foam pad in 2 to be able to take it off the helmet, the bracket would break before the M3 pad coming off, Keep safe out there
@josephklein4680
@josephklein4680 4 года назад
I just lost my GoPro this week. I was kayaking and upside down and my GoPro hit a rock from the side. Since the mount doesn't give side to side it sheared the side rail off the mount, the adhesive held up fine. I really like your tether idea. You never want a loop of anything hanging from your body in whitewater since it is a hazard to snag on something but I am pretty sure the para cord would pull out of the connector if your body weight was pulling against it. Thanks for the tip.
@OutsideChronicles
@OutsideChronicles 4 года назад
Joseph Klein thanks for watching. You could limit the loop by attaching closer to the mount. I used the inside material, but I think I could shorten by putting through a vent. However, some ww helmets are solid.
@benjamindbailey
@benjamindbailey 3 года назад
I think the difference is in whitewater your helmet often gets wet for hours, weakening the glue until a hit is able to knock it off.

This is literally the way that I wanted to do it. Was hoping to find a better way. Just in case the screw comes loose.
@OutsideChronicles
@OutsideChronicles 3 года назад
I have never had the screw even loosen up on me. I have not tried, but you could probably remove the nut and then use a nylon lock nut. Or you could use semi-permanent thread locker. The only other suggest would be to attach something to the case. This gets trickier with the Hero 8 and beyond because there is no case. Good luck!

Just tried this last night, got the thin standard paracord! How the heck did you get it through the hole in the ring cord? I tried your burning method, would like to see how you did it
@OutsideChronicles
@OutsideChronicles 3 года назад
Ha, yeah I did a jump cut there. It is not easy. I think I actually made the inside of the connector a bit bigger by sticking needlenose inside and opening them up. You can also try cutting the paracord at an angle before burning it.
