I'm not saying colorism struggles haven't played apart in her life, but I think boiling every issue of rejection when it comes to Black women down to the fact that some of us are darker skinned is projection at its worse, and way more indicative of the trauma and hurt of the person assessing the situation than the situation itself. Clay didn't want to be married because of Clay, his generational trauma, and the fact that this show is dumb lol...I feel AD could have been Beyonce and he still would have chickened out. I feel blaming it on the color of A.D.'s skin is a lazy interpretation of the very real issues in their situation.
I hear everything you're saying and mostly concur. But I believe Clay didn't marry AD, because he feels he can do "better", even though AD IS all that and a bag of chips. And 9 times out 10 "better" for a Black man is someone who is barely or not their phenotype.

@@AkireMaru Just wanted to say that it’s for this reason we should re-examine how we as a society value wedding ceremonies. The ceremony should never take precedent over the marriage. Only invite people who genuinely care for you both and want what’s best and def refrain from spending 100k. Then, it’ll be a lot easier to genuinely consider if you want to marry this person since the glitz and glam of an extravagant wedding is no longer distracting you.

I agree with what you said about relationships shouldn't be so hard. My husband and I have been together for 17 years and we just get along. It's so easy being married to him. We joke all the time that we can't believe we have been together so long because it seems much shorter. We have never cursed each other out or had blow out arguments. None of the breaking up and getting back together every other month. We have minor disagreements, but nothing crazy. When people say you have to work at relationships because they are hard, to me that means maybe you are with the wrong person.
Absolutely agree! All of my truly great friendships have been easy and effortless; no "hard work" involved. I feel romantic relationships should be as effortless or else I'm with the wrong person.
I so agree that the premise of this show needs to change. It’s always a lot of emotionally damaged folk coming together hoping to make Disney Magic and while it’s good tv it’s also very cringe. I’m a big believer that many folk who seek romantic relationships this hard really actually need community and ways to connect with people that teaches them what emotional intimacy & safety feels like.

Yes we react differently but not due to brain chemistry it’s boils down to the socialization of the sexes men are likely to react in anger not sadness because an emotion they’re taught to suppress and women are taught to be nurturing and a future mom so to speak and given the burden of carrying all the emotional workload. Intersex and nonbinary folk are forced to choose one or the other as well. Our society has done its best to make tiny boxes and categories for everyone and beat us into them through social programming which then indeed changes the way we think. But yea we’re pretty much born very blank slates

I can tell Sarah Ann doesn’t value relationships with women. Literally , in the first 2-3 episodes she would make comments like “I’m not here to make friends, I’m here to find love”. When the women were excitedly going to the pods she said “Omg, all you guys talk about is men!”. Another thing I clocked is the face she made at Alejandra and AD when they ran up to each other for a hug at the dock party. She is using right-wing vernacular to justify and downplay her actions. It’s quite fascinating to watch bc she showed us who she is.
Ohhhh I didn’t notice all of this. But it would make sense that she might be one of those women. You know, the type that thinks she’s better than others. Quite often based on her looks, sometimes politics as well. And they seem to think they’re so intelligent compared to other women 😭

36:00 - In limited defense of Clay he is probably never going to get a satisfying answer from his father. His father's behavior with his ex-wife shows he doesn't want to be reminded of his behavior or the hurt he caused. But Clay needs to go to therapy and work on his childhood trauma so his father's bad behavior doesn't continue to hurt his ability to have healthy relationships.
Clay throughout the show basically told AD that he was NOT ready for marriage but AD wanted this storybook union. I wanted her to let him go before she walked down the isle sooo bad but i knew she wouldn't 🤦🏾♀️.
I've never witnessed a male female platonic relationship in which someone wasn't interested in something. Just because you have a nice body doesn't mean you need to wear a tight draped sheet that you are basically falling out of, it didn't even really look like a wedding dress. It looked like a long cocktail gown that happened to be white. But I suspect she will have a chance in the future to wear a real wedding dress to marry a real man.

So traditionally no the mom doesn’t give the bride away but I think she absolutely could’ve. Many of these marriage traditions should be refreshed in my opinion anyway.
I recently had a conversation with my wife about how I wish the premise of the show didn't lead the couples to marriages but a head start on developing a relationship that doesn't start with looks and the physical. Girl, you are quite wrong about the scorpio part. From the moment I saw Sarah Ann's behaviour, I knew she was a scorpio with heavy placements!!! You are only thinking about the positive sides of scorpios, but let me tell you something, I hope you never fall in the hands of a toxic scorpio, which I have several times, with both men and women. They are extremely emotional, meaning they take everything to heart, are petty as F, competitive, jealous, vengeful, love to cross boudaries (specially emotional ones) and they will do absolutely everything to win, from full on actions to even witchcraft. They crave control and power so much that they do everything to get it. That is why scorpios have an horrible reputation and are usually the most hated zodiac sign. Loyal? Only if you do not cross them, which by the way, it is almost impossible since they are so sensitive to any threat to their perceived power.

The "hearting" the message was definitely shady on Jeramy's part. I feel like he was letting Sara Ann know that he was still emotionally available while maintaining plausible deniabilty with Laura. Feigned ingorance of "what?? I just double tapped it. And I came to show you right away! Why would I come show if you if I was being shady?" I really believe that he would be the type of guy to know the dynamics of texting and emojis and hearts and stuff. If my husband received a message like that from an ex and responded with a heart I would flip. Anything short of "I wish you the best but I am committed to my relationship" or an ignore and block is unacceptable in my book. I can also see why Sarah Ann would feel it's okay to break girl code in this instance because LIB relationships are notorious for being short-lived. But I still think it's a violation and a red flag that she's not willing to admit any wrongdoing.

And, although they participants they pick seem to be getting older, like you said, I think I aged out. I've seen 40 year old men, but the women haven't made it out of there. 30s.
