Clearly you have no clue about what is different in the 1st Gen GTS. This is from the macanforum with someone who did a lot of research on the subject. Note: This list DOES NOT include those items that are standard on the GTS but that you can add to any other model (ie: Black window trim, or Sport Design Package). Only those that are included on the GTS that you can't order separately on any other model (ie: Black Aluminum interior trim). So, here they are, and please feel free to add to the list in case I missed anything else: - 360 HP and 369 Lb-ft of torque 3.0 engine with upgraded internals: - 17.4 PSI Turbo boost vs 14 PSI for S. - New Camshaft. - Revised air intake path. - Reduced exhaust back pressure. - New Piston design and other beffed-up internal components. - High-rev horsepower curve, with max power at 6,000 rpm. - 159 MPH top speed. (This is mostly what makes a BIG difference between a GTS and just adding a chip to an S. The GTS is DESIGNED to handle more power.) - Enhanced Transmission: - Sturdier PDK Trasmission (as in Turbo). - Retuned transmission shifting algorithm. - Improved brakes: - 14.8" front disk brakes with red calipers (as in Turbo. (It is not only designed to go faster, but also to stop better). - Especially tuned Porsche Sport Exhaust with natural cabin amplification. (Why it sounds better than the S or Turbo with PSE). - Enhanced Chassis tweaks: - Air Springs with retuned PASM programming. - 0.4" lower than standard Air Suspension. - 10% stiffer than standard Air Suspension. - Stiffer and thicker rear stabilizer bar. - Greater rearward bias of torque distribution. - Retuned PTM (traction management) stability controls allow 15 degrees more yaw before stepping in. - Sport Plus setting of Sport Chrono-equipped models ...adds an intermediate Sport ESC mode, which is available only on the GTS and allows a bit more slip-angle leeway before intervening. - The Porsche Stability Management System has been completely recalibrated for the GTS to provide even more “dynamic driving experience,” says the automaker (this means a driving enthusiast won’t feel restrained by an overly aggressive stability control system). - Interior/Exterior Trim upgrades: - Standard 8-way Sport Seats - Exclusive GTS interior trim - Black brushed aluminum trim - GTS logo on headrests, tachometer, PCM, side blades and rear hatch. - 20" Black RS Spyder wheels. And I will close by adding a couple of comments from Torsten Gaertner, senior engineer of driving dynamics for the Macan: - “The GTS is much more a driver’s car.” - “The AWD is more rear-wheel biased.” - “This is what the engineers envisioned when they designed the Macan"
Great post and super pertinent. It's not about HP/torque or 0-60 times. It is the whole engineering package that makes the 1st Gen Macan GTS so special, despite not being the fastest.
Hey Nick, love your videos but I believe you are completely wrong about the 1st Gen Macan GTS. That vehicle had better chasis dynamics than both the 1st gen S model as well as the 1st gen Turbo. Even the engine tune in the 1st gen GTS was fantastic. It sung at the higher rev ranges. In fact the 1st Gen GTS was so good they had to release a Turbo performance pack with the same chasis setup as the GTS model to appease the Turbo crowd. P.S. I owned both the 1st gen S model and the GTS model; there was a night and day difference.
So pretty well the only reason this GTS is okay is because it has the 2.9l engine? Otherwise for the most part the options are the same as the previous GTS. Didn't they also bump the price a fair bit?
Yeah, that is all I can figure. I had a previous GTS that I ordered and I really liked it while I owned it. It also had a small bump in HP but like this one, it was not much. My problem was the air suspension and PASM decided to go nuts after 6mos. I got rid of it and bought a car. My current Porsche has had two weird things happen with the PDK. It has one more year of warranty and I'm not sure I'm going to keep it much longer.

Check whether you can actually tune the engine first because I remember Porsche saying you could not on the Panamera GTS because the PDK didn’t support it.
I watched your video and was convinced this gen2 GTS was the one to get. After test driving a 2021, 2020 and a 2018 GTS, the 2018 was the clear winner for me. Sure the gen2 is faster but that 2.9L Audi engine is a letdown, it sounds and feels gimpy compared to the old 3L. Gen1 GTS has a raw feel to it and sport plus turns it into a whole different beast. I ended up buying a very low milage 2018 GTS (CPO), saved a bunch of money and I'm super happy with it.
My parents might be in the market for an upgrade to a Porsche Macan.. how convenient, Nick! Thanks a lot - it’s great to know the GTS has a detuned Turbo engine as in Australia, the GTS starts at 125k whereas the Turbo starts at 160k....

Totally agree on the black wheels. We got an allocation for a GTS build next year, and right now we have Mamba Green with the 21 inch Spyder wheels spec’d. We also thought that the PSCB option the calipers looked a little jammed in behind the 20 inch rims. The practical side of me knows we don’t need the upgraded brakes, but The Porsche buyer in me is having trouble seeing the downside (cost aside of course) to some extra stopping power, cosmetic upside for folks like us that like the white/mirrored look they have, and alleged brake dust reduction. The way the Turbo deliveries are going, we’ll be shocked if we take delivery before September/October.
We have taken delivery of our ‘20 Turbo in the UK having sold our ‘17 GTS. The PSCB and 21” Turbo wheels are probably some of the highlights. Car itself has been filthy and yet wheels + callipers stay looking clean and mirror-like . The satin black Spyder wheels on our old GTS+red callipers would go brown after 2 days. Great option to have!
@@Meatwad650 If it was fine then Porsche would have put a turbo Boxster 4 in the new GT4. Many would say my 981 GT4 is slow AF yet it ticks all the boxes that matter to me.

Is the GTS also lower than the base Macan and the Macan S? The Porsche web site lists both the base and S at a height of 64.0 inches but the GTS at 63.0. Lower ride height = lower center of gravity = a good thing
Interesting, the new GTS in the UK is not standard with air suspension, just standard suspension but 15mm lower and PASM. Is this a US thing or a mistake?
Toby Fang Porsche active suspension management is not air suspension as far as I’m aware. Either that or our Porsche dealer has been lying to us lol. From website: “PASM is adaptive dampers attached to a standard steel spring suspension. Their response is computer-controlled so they adapt to road conditions.”
Not sure you'll read this Nick, but there is an implication in your video that the GTS has the same engine as the turbo but detuned. How about the turbos? In the 991.2 line, the turbos were different between the base and the S. Maybe Porsche did the same with the Macan GTS (smaller turbos) and it is not just a matter of getting a third party tune to make it as powerful as the Macan Turbo
A Taycan Spec Video would be great in 2020. I had my go in the configurator and my dream version was just around 228K Euros :-D - Red, with red Aero Wheels and black accents. Would be great to see what Nick would do in this case.
Hey Nick, new to Porsche but I just ordered a 2020 Macan GTS and loaded it out - arrives mid-April. I'm curious about your comments on the tuning the engine up, how would one go about learning more about that? Would Porsche do it themselves? Also, I ordered the sideblades in the exterior color for $0 extra - it's not standard but it's free, there are several options like that for the GTS. They charge $550 for the S to change sideblades, for example.
Nick, I’m planning to order my first Porsche (Macan GTS) and my local dealer has a slot. The market right now seems crazy (for all cars) and I would like your insights on ordering a new Porsche at a time inventory is so low and demand seems so high (“semiconductor” being the word of the quarter). I feel the word “discount” is out of the question these days with a special order. I feel many of the Macan GTS on lots in the US are over-spec’d to a price of the mid-$90k range. The car I’ve spec’d is $87,500. If I can shave a point or two, great. Curious what people are seeing with lead times and discounts in this era. Perhaps a video on Porsche market conditions in these times would be valuable to your viewers. Are you still working with your local dealer on pre-negotiated discounts? I am driving the 1st Generation of a Macan S, very satisfied , even better equipped than the new one, a better sound but with the new GTS with side blades of the same color, 21 wheels I am seduced to change...
Totally agree with Nick, I have owned both the 1st Gen Macan S and then a GTS. Basically the same car that drove the same. I could never really understand how the forums raved about the GTS as in my experience the 2 cars were almost identical. And I always hated the Black Wheels on the GTS (no one ever optioned them on the S before the GTS came out). The one problem I have with the 2nd Gen Macan is the total lack of exhaust note, not sure I could live with a car that sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Also, don't like Alcantara, much prefer leather.
Jon Jones we went from a ‘17 GTS to the new Turbo with the 2.9L. The exhaust note is definitely better than anticipated as we were also nervous coming from a ‘17 GTS. Sounds much more higher pitched, sweeter and smoother sounding. Wouldn’t say it’s better or worse than the old 3.0L
Hi Nick. no one talks about the sound system , I am thinking of the GTS and the package comes with the Bose system but if you want their top line Burmister its an extra $5700. wow. , I do love my music but is there a night and day differance between the two systems ? really love your thoughts

Anyone know if you can get a trailer hitch for the Macan GTS? I'm not looking to tow but I prefer to use a hitch mounted bike rack. The roof system will have awful wind noise.
By far the most honest and detailed critique of my GTS on order. Well done and YES the upgrade chip looks more than inviting . Also , LEATHER , I agree why have a synthetic under your bum !! You really have confirmed my research for our second car as our daily drive is an Audi R8 V8 manual 2012 and everything was feeling like a dull Conformador, ha!
Hi Nick! I have not heard or read anything horrible about the 718 GTS. Of course we would have all loved it if it remained a six cylinder and did not sound like a Subaru ... Ugh :( ... and I know that enormous for sure. But what other choice did we have and what other deficits were appreciated as far as you are aware?
