I'm 65 and I jst bought a Ninja 400 from a 900 Bonneville. I looked back on a lifetime of biking and remembered my happiest time was when I went from a 750/4 Kawasaki to a Yamaha 400 Twin and looked at the Ninja 400 which had similar power to weight. Yes in a straight line a Ninja 400 isn't the fastest but it's much more exciting to ride and way more maneuverable I love it I feel like a billionaire with the best toy money can buy. The Ninja is the lightweight class leader they added 4 kg to the 500 they need to lose that otherwise a perfect bike. People think bigger is better but it isn't belive me after a lifetime of biking weight is everything to the experience. Watch a video on an R1 trying to lose a Ninja 300 on the twisties the R1 rider is having the worst day of his life practically killing himself to stay in front. If your going to do thousands of miles 2 up or you have a practical reason for a motorcycle it's all for show and the Ninja 400 is way more fun. You lucky people!

its 4kg extra weight but has more torque now - 37Nm vs 42Nm on the new model, so its unlikely to have any significant effect on performance. besides 4kg is something we can all lose from our bodies or from swapping to an aftermarket exhaust and getting a tail tidy. i am half your age but i agree about the riding experience. of course i want a zx10rr for the thrill and looks and exclusivity, but i had more fun on my ninja 300 than i have on a fireblade. i think reducing total weight and having 140/150 section rear tire on a bike to make it agile is more important than having 200 horsepower. i've gone 'only' 240kmh in a straight line on a straight but i can't say it felt anything as exciting as taking my ninja 300 through winding forest roads banging up and down through gears and revving to 10,000+rpm having done the same on a more powerful machine, it's no fun to not be able to use a powerful bike to its potential. and trying to without having the skill of a professional racer can easily get you killed.

the quality on Kawa bikes is amazing. i had a 2014-model Ninja 300 I bought 4 years with 3,000km on the clock, I thought it was a cheap budget option, but put 20,000km on it and as I sold it it still looked like new. I rode in all weather, through downpours, even on some gravel roads when i went exploring - not a single bolt rusted, never had a single issue with it. my experience left me really loyal to the brand

Nice video! The 300, 500 and 650 are a good setup indeed! 300 & 400 don't have much of a differentiating factor between them.
@trsskater
@trsskater 10 месяцев назад
the 300 and 400 isn't much different except the fact that the 400 has a different dash, different style clip ons, different seat, redesign body work, differen shaped head lights. But other than that they have the same mirrors, turn signals, kick stand, and they both have 2 wheels and come in green, so there's basically no difference.

@@trsskater having owned a ninja 300 for a couple years it really didnt have enough acceleration, but in every single other aspect it was ideal for me - fantastic build quality, great price, extremely economical and good range, awesome looks, super light weight and very agile (140/70 rear tire and 170-something kg weight). looking at the numbers the ninja 500 is a bit heavier but has 42nm of torque compared to the 26nm in ninja 300. sounds like an ideal daily rider to me

This is the bike I have 😁 I love it. Very beginner friendly but still has guts and balls to keep with a progressed rider. I didn’t want to have to keep changing bikes while I learned. The 600 was just a bit much for me. I’m 5’4, 130lb female. I did lower the bike (I was on the very balls of my feet and really wanted to be flat. I’m most likely going to be raising it though because supposedly it affects the drive and can be dangerous).

I’m definitely thinking of getting a Ninja 500. Especially considering it’s the same price as last years Ninja 400. Starting @$5299 here in the US that’s a good price for a world renowned reliable machine. Now as far as comparing the ninja 500 and the z500 against the MT07 & R7 that’s a totally different ballpark. Maybe use the MT03 & R3 for a closer comparison.

Gr8 video! It may be an opportunity to buy the older 400 perhaps more cheaply now that the newer version will be on sale. Might also be worth waiting to see if Honda bring out an inline 4 400cc bike to compete next year.

Styling change was much needed and looks great. Not sure why they call it a "500" when it's a 450cc, other than trying to market it as a larger engine than the competition. Kawasaki quality, in my opinion, is always top notch. Considering they kept the price the same as the Ninja 400, this will be another winner for Kawasaki. Many years ago, Kawasaki had the Ninja 250 and Ninja 500. Both were replaced when they came out with the old Ninja 300. Now that the 500 is out again, I'm wondering if they will make a smaller 250cc bike again?
@trsskater

Isn't the z650 the competitor to the MT07? But I also wonder with the slight bump in displacement if the z/n 650 will become a 700.

500 looks more bulky and relatively more in line with its contemporaries than its own animated siblings. The lineup needs more sturdy looks. The lower cc bikes don't justify the name Ninja which is so revered because of their eldest sibling H2R.

Kawasaki should be able to sell this new 500 if they keep the price and weight around the same as the 400. As far a the power, with a aftermarket pipe and high-flow airfilter should be able to get 50+ HP and a few more Nm.

The Ninja 400 is so fantastic the way it is now, I'm sure. Discontinuing it would be a shame. It is what it is. Great! I also feel that the N400 is the Perfect Bike for Women Riders. oh Kawasaki way to go to lay back on your branding I am so disappointed there's no real value here it's basically a ninja 400 flipped and you'll have a higher insurance bill all kawasaki doing right now is trying to take the eyes off the competition like see if Moto 450ss and 450 Srs coming out I seen this at first and was so happy and now I'm just like why it's a 400 with a face lift and basically the same performance yeah it's cool it's nice but it don't bring a dramatic value compared to the competition it just does not personally

The 400 will in the real world or even on track perform almost identical to the new 500 the rider will be more the determining factor. So I don't see value for current 400 owners moving up to the 500. 300 owners - yes probably and new squids for sure. I have a 2023 400 which I bought for its lightweight handling and ample street performance after coming off a fire blade which was a lot heavier with performance that exceeds what is needed for fun street riding. I see a trend developing towards moving away from overly powerful and heavy motorcycles to smaller capacity, lighter and more manoeuvrable machines providing equal fun to their bigger brothers. This is especially noticeable amongst riders over fifty with many years of experience.

Yada yada… There were no emissions laws back in 1987. So your “piping hot” GPXCBZRwatsies500 would go precisely No Km/hr because it couldn’t be sold. Nor were licensing rules the same: this bike is, deliberately, restricted to under 50hp so it can actually be sold to the market it’s designed for: new riders, with some mature riders who know they don’t need 100hp on the street anymore.

They can call it a 500, but its engine displacement is actually 451cc. It should really be called a 450, not a 500. I'm sick of bait and switch like this. If Kawasaki wants a 500 engine in its lineup, have engineering calculate the bore and stroke correctly and then manufacture it accordingly. They did it correctly with their 650 engines and they can do it with engine too. Kawasaki is not alone in this. The engine used in the Honda CBR500 is close to being a 500cc, but its still about 25cc to small to be called that. This is not rocket science. Calculate the engine size marketing thinks the brand needs and let engineering and manufacturing produce it.

My Two-Stroke 500 H1 was pretty gentle at low RPM's at sensible speeds but could blow you're mind if you grab it too hard. Adding cost and weight is not the way. Torque is not gentle. Call it a Fahrenheit 451 but, whatever... Just don't call it a Kawasaki 500. That's Nuts. It ain't without the smoke and sweet racket it made..
