I guess this is a case of the settled community and the travellers coming together and reaching a compromise. The stereo type of travellers is that all of them are thieves and trouble makers. A lot of work needs to be done to build bridges between both communities. Great little film.
I think a big part of the problem is the appearance of the traveler sites. They don’t help themselves with rubbish lying around and generally not caring for the environment.
1.There are no / not enough bins provided. 2. Your rubbish goes to landfill / into rivers so you are part of and complicit in government sanctioned flytip/pollution/environmental distruction/hypocrisy 3.Travellers do not build houses which leave far more mess and permanent damage we often "care" for our environment and hence choose this way of life. So lucky all the people waiting this site didn't grow old and die waiting, or be walking with Zimmer Frames Lol. Infact Roze and her lad was at school originally when it was in the planning, and by the time the Council had to pull there fingers out ( ahem what happened to the money that one time then hey? )...her lad is now grown up, old enough to have kids of his own, it was a long old battle...Good on ya ROZE xx
Its 2014 now the site at laST GOT BUILT BUT ONLY 8 PITCHES BUT THATS BETTER THAN NOTHING.It took about 9 years hasseling, meetings etc til we got on here it was3 years from granting planning permision til they built it I moved here in Jan 6th of this year. The old woman hasn't had even one reason to complain ! We can see her chimly pot & she can't see us at all so all the delays&complaining by her were a waste of time and money!!!!!
rich emerson Also the women has a Scrap Metal works opposite, which she doesn't care about, industrial land, and they built a few 100 houses opposite her house...Not a leg to stand on, I never did show her this, as she does come across a bit Negative..Lol
Ignoring the fact that most travellers do work. The whole reason the movement started in the first place was that people were unable to make any sort of living whilst in a house. So people turned to the roads. Then the government agencies officially declared many of the "Unemployable" making it near impossible to get a job in larger companies. Not that you'd want to in the first place. Moreover, its a way of life with a unique culture. I choose to travel because I prefer the way of life. What gives you the right to say that your lifestyle is better.
