Glad to see that the R8 kept the V10 This is a future classic

I'm in the business of Audi Sales and one of our clients has 2 of the V10 R8's. He drives them all year, road trips, blizzards and more. Up into Canada and Mankato, living in one of the harshest winter states there is (South Dakota) having -40f winters with 60mph winds. 110f scorching summers. Torrential rains in spring. He's used them in all sorts of weather that people hide their cars from. The Audi wrestles all these seasons and laughs in the face of the "yeah, I keep my Quattro garaged all winter". This is aside from the fact he has it sent across seas to drive it on tracks as well. The world needs more R8's, they truly are the world's best DD supercar, and the looks/performance speak for themselves.

I'm sure it's still an amazing car, but Audi seems really insistent on increasingly ruining the stunning curvy looks their cars use to have with unnecessary angles. Those fake vents really bring the car down, shame I was just getting use to the R8's updated non-curvy angular look. Great review as alway Henry, thank you!

Dont get me wrong, i love the v10 engine, everything about it. But would it be cool if audi put twin turbo v8 in it, an engine similar like lambo urus, or future rs6 and rs7? That would make it even more everyday supercar. If you put it this way, why is the 911 turbo known as everyday supercar? Because its discrete, it has inline 6 twin turbo, which is rather silent and goes under the radar. Also, when you take into consideration that there is exists a lambo huracan which is from same family (but obviously a lot more expensive that r8 v10), wouldnt a r8 v8 twin turbo fill the right gap? Imagine a choice between r8 v10 and r8 v8, both of them on the market.

Next to a first gen, that car is hideous.

I agree about the fake vents Henry. You compared it to the Type R in the beginning and that also has fake vents. I'd prefer the Huracan over the fake vent Audi.

Please pass my compliments to George for his excellent cinematography! The car mounting locations, the drone shots and the editing was fantastic! Just the aspect ratio changes to illustrate the dynamic "checkered flag" mode was genius. I really "felt" the performance increase. This video makes me really excited about the 2022 V10 Performance Coupe that I have on order. It's going to be a long wait!

The front end looks far too fussy now - too many lines and angles that only detract from the original's simple yet elegant form. And those fake grills, especially on the bonnet line... No Audi. Just No. Great video as always guys and loved that introduction - superb!

The older R8’s were so much more elegant, more beautiful. This new one I’m sure performs better. But it looks like they tried to put some Lamborghini in the front bumper. I’m sure it’s gained a lot. But It’s lost something.

They finally fixed 90% of the awful design. Still doesn't hold a candle to gen1 tho.

Somebody buy Henry a stick of truth for those vents ;) , but apart from that always loved the R8 especially with that engine note :)

This car looks like huge fun despite being utterly ruined by 'design' updates. Those hideous broken up lines and bits of tat all over the front end do nothing to add presence or make it look sporty - they're just a cheap mess. What on Earth is going on at Audi lately?

You can't spend that much and get fake plastic vents everywhere. The R8 was so far ahead of the curve when in launched, this is much less of a bargain and yet outclassed in so many ways.

Like watching Henry, honest and knowledgeable. On to the R8 V10 am I the only one going to say it looks like a scirrocco from the front :/ I get where the VAG group are going with this as they want to try and make the car look relatable as I believe the 911 is long in the tooth now and there is not much they can do to make it better than it already is. Love the V10 not a fan of the paddles but damn is that DSG effective probably the last N/A supercar we are going to see shame Audi didn't go balls out but as mentioned I think this platform will see alot of evolutions 4.0 twin turbo V8 and 700 plus bhp for the next one ?

Would you take this or an M8 Comp? I know the M8 is still just a GT car, regardless of how many times BMW says otherwise. But I feel like the two go about handling their flagship cars in two completely different ways.

It's just ugly compared to the first version. I can't even imagine someone buying the new Audi R8, instead of buying the first model and it's cheaper as well, because it's used. Audi is dead, they chose that path, they should rename de brand because the new Audi cars aren't Audi anymore, they are a mix of some junk of VW group.

@Henry: what exactly is it about the shifter paddles that you’d want changed? I’m sure an enterprising petrolhead with a CNC machine *cough cough* would love to have a crack at retrofitting a HC endorsed upgrade...

at 13.8mpg as shown, I don't have a problem with Audi using their technical excellence gained at Le Mans to create an R8 that's lighter, with a smaller but more powerful engine, particularly if it returns much better fuel economy. Large displacement internal combustion engines feel like dinosaurs just before the meteorite hit

Thanks for a supervideo. As always. But a couple of questions i have is whats the purpose of the car? Whats its rivals outside the vw-group? Nsx? Gtr? Corvette? I would be sad to know in the audi-group that they cant build a car too fast so they challenge the hurracan or the gt3 rs.. like a beast with chains.

I am an Audi R8 fan, I plan to own one very soon. Henry is right, why have fake parts on the car that's not functional, They could have made them to have a purpose, it's a $180k car!? come on!!

I find the paddle shifters useless on my S model Audis but when I drive a 911 the shifters actually are useful as there is an instant shift. The audi shifts are delayed. If I am accelerating moderately or hard for example and shift at 4k it shoots to 6k or more before it shifts.

Good on you Mr Catchpole to mention the fake vents and the naff gearshift paddles. If common cars like the Civic Type R and Golf R get stick for things like that, then supercars should be under MUCH more scrutiny for things like that considering the money they cost.

Yellow is the new black... Epic car ! Don't care about the fake vents, it can be easely fixed ! Epic v10, agressive but reserved style. Epic color! The beginning of this video says all about car enthusiast. Enjoying the moment your beast breath in.... so intense.

No car at this price should have fake plastic where there should be real performance parts. Audi I'm disappointed. The performance should be slightly faster as well.

I don't have the money for it, but those 3 fakes vents just below the hood would keep me from buying this. The only way you're getting away with no one else really noticing those is to order the car in Black or Charcoal. And we all know how damn hard it is to keep a black car clean (hint: don't drive it).

As for the part that the next R8 won't have a NA V10, I wouldn't hate the 3rd gen if it comes with a hybrid TT V8 (the new RS6 is expected with that set up) but yeah the NA V10 will remain in our hearts

The look of the Original first Gen Audi R8 is always going to be classic and timeless. It looks really nice for me. Pre facelift 2nd gen is OK. But I don't like this one. This is even worst than Type R gimmick in my opinion

The R8 has kind of.. got lost in the competition despite being a very good car. I don't know what is happening to Audi ... they have become quieter in recent year or so. ...feels like they have run out of ideas. R8 I think is one of the best sounding cars along with the 918. That is how a sports car should sound.

When is Audi going to make a hybrid or electric R8 so we common people can afford to maintain a cheaper second hand one without breaking the bank or perhaps I should just stick with my uglier but superior sports car 911...

I just can't quite understand Audi/Lambo holding on strong to the N/A motors but not offering a manual gearbox option. Surely the people who appreciate natty engines are the ones most likely to also appreciate a real gearbox.
