@@michaelcaricoo yeah I get that. I would argue SB2 isn’t worth it if you have a rotation. If you have the sb2 for a do it then it’s def worth the money.
@andorkish yeah that's fair, even as a big fan of the superblast it's more of either something extra to have or that one shoe rotation. I'm sure the balos is nice but I can't see why it's $200 for a limited use shoe
1080v13 is a great casual shoe as you say, and perfect for walking all day. For running definitely best in cool weather as its not breathable, and very easy to recovery running it is so comfortable. Agree it's not the best at holding faster paces but I have gotten it to 4.30 km pace.
After running over 200 miles on the 1080, I’m done and will most likely will never run in them again. Wear definitely visible in the soles and side. It’s just pure mush😫. Thanks for video
Curious I purchased it and it feels very different from any other shoe I’ve run in. When I first stood up in them they felt very cushy like all other max cushioned daily trainers, but felt a bit wobbly and unstable. What doesn’t come through is out of the box they are not only very rockered front to back but also beveled side to side. The combined rocker and bevel made them feel unsteady standing up and my initial thoughts were how on earth is anyone supposed to run in these. Then I started running and it started to make sense. These shoes are not made for standing, they are made for moving. And move they do. They felt quicker than any max trainer I’ve used. The initial couple of miles felt a bit unstable to me but after mile 5 it they started to feel more planted and stable, or my feet got used to controlling them. Also I always start all my runs, and especially long runs in Zone 1 for the first couple of miles so that may have something to do with the initial unsteadiness. For recovery and long runs I run my heart rate not pace, so when I hit my Zone♡2 two around mile 3 I found my pace was a bit faster than usual, though my perceived effort along with my heart rate wasn’t any greater. One thing I found unusual is that though is that they sent my weight to the lateral sides of my feet like a motion control shoe and my feet were tender bilaterally on the outside after finishing the 30K. Are they worth the $200? Well that really does depend upon the runner. If someone is looking for a max cushion shoe that isn’t that tall like others yet is very cushioned which is typical of New Balance but finds most max cushion shoes too slow then I would say give these a try. Sadly New Balance doesn’t allow for running in their running shoes (not even on your treadmill) for returns or exchanges like HOKA. So it’s a gamble if how they feel standing up in your house on your is how they’ll feel actually running in them.

I don't want a trampoline or mush. why are running shoes such a pain in the ass? the v12 such a perfect shoe. the stack height was low by modern standards. under 30. it was soft and compliant but not mush with just a touch of resiliency and bounce. the knit upper was fantastic. fit was fantastic. no real rocker.. sure a heel bevel, that's fine. the shoe was extremely flexible so it doesn't need a rocker. let your foot muscles do the work. and now.. the shoe doesn't exist anymore. can't get it anywhere. closest thing I've found to it is an Escalante 3, but the escalante isn't as stable, isn't as wide, or deep and just fits tight. Im gonna try a hoka mach 6 next. maybe a magnafly. I tried the v13 and it was bad. so compliant it goes into negative drop and hyperextends the knees a little bit. I am open to suggestions. I hate the running shoe industry.
I don't know what shoe size you wear or what country you're located in, but the 1080v12 is pretty readily available for cheap right now on Amazon, Zappos, and Joes New Balance Outlet.
@@jordan21210 You should check again. those sites don't actually have them in stock. I have checked all those sites and then some. I checked everywhere. none of them have any if the common mens sizes much less in any widths. Only amazon does. but it's only the black and yellow model and it's full cost, literally $165. which seems like a lot for a shoe that's out of production, but if it doesn't come down, I would 100% pay that and get another one.
@@nictheperson6709 The real issue is the gimmicks and the needless and constant radical changes to long existing models. If they stood behind their products, they could actually make them for longer than 9 months before coming out with something totally radically different than before. Cuz all they are about is trying to juice sales and the 1080v13 is the hottest and best selling new running shoe NB has released maybe ever. Everyone loves it, cuz 99% of folks are using it as a lifestyle shoe and think mush is the greatest thing ever. it's basically become a gimmick about how soft and mushy can we make it. ofc every new model needs another 5 cm of stack for some reason too. and every new model needs to be less and less flexible with more and more of a rocker so it's not like walking on a literal brick. 30 mm stack used to be considered maximalist. Now it's a "barefoot racing shoe." what a joke.
Great question. Different rides. The Rebel is light, closer to the ground and the far faster of the two. The Balos is far more more cushioned, maximal, and rockered. Balos better for training/easy mileage. Rebel is a far more versatile.
If the balos isnt really good at things that the 1080 doesnt already cover (pending the softness, but if the balos is also super soft theres even more overlap) why would you pay the extea $40 for it?
To help with New Balance's marketing campaign. Sense I get is that the Balos is a trial run, comfort shoe, with super foams, NBs effort at a Superblast or a similar shoe. Basically they built a shoe with a standard NB comfort + Hoka style rocker and up market super foams. It's a test of components they might eventually include in the 1080, 880 or other shoes in their line. Balos might be a one and done if it doesn't sell really well.
Balos is a little more of an all rounder. It's not a great uptempo shoe, but you could do occasional uptempo work in it, it has more of a roll if you are looking at a shoe that assists your run a bit, as opposed to the more neutral 1080. If you wanted to do a casual run with a few strides at the end, the Balos is a lot better than the 1080. Balos falls between the 1080 and the 880.
