NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2 Long Run Review
Today I tested the NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V2 over a 13.1 mile distance in some warm and pleasant conditions.
A 7:30/mi or 4:40/km pace on todays run keeping things at medium effort mainly in the aerobic heart rate zone.
I discuss the upper, midsole and outsole performance along with an analysis of the shoe over the test route.
Hold tight people, stay strong and we WILL make it through.

Did a nice 15-k yesterday and today a 20-k in my Fuelcell Rebel v1. Some good gains in both runs. Can't wait to get the v2's. Put about 393 Kilometers in them in the last 5 weeks and they still are great. I went from working overnights last year and getting 3-4 hours a sleep a day to working a non zombie shift and now I get 7-10 hours a night. Really helps.

ED I ran 10 miles this morning and I needed to Run 8:30 pace i was very surprised i was running 7:45 pace I have to say it’s the best none plated shoe I have run in years NB have a winner on they hands. I decided to order a second pair just in case they decided to make any changes. Thanks for the great review stay safe!!

Totally agree with your comment about how too soft cushioning might screw up your mechanics and lead to knee problems. There is a trade-off between foot discomfort and knee pain, at least there is for me.

This is such a fun shoe. I’m 70km into mine already and they are just a joy to wear. Everything from long, slow jogs to attempts on Strava sprint segments (missed it by 2 seconds 😤). It’s a genuinely joyful experience to run in.

In fairness I am mostly a trail-runner (coming off a 100-mile race three weeks ago) and, at age 57 - after 2 surgeries - looking for lighter-weight cushioning on asphalt and tarmac that is not too squishy. I find the AlphaFly too much shoe for me, even though it obviously is intended as a Marathon race shoe. The Hoka Carbon X works better for me by comparison for that distance because it is relatively stiffer. But I think The Artist may be my choice for Boston if I make the “live” version this week. Will know soon enough! PS my 100 was a PR in 22:42:20 thanks to the Craft CTM Carbon Ultra-highly recommend for road-trail ultras.

Hey Nike Invincible Run, This is how it's done! Feels like butter under the feet, light like a feather, fast and responsive, and super stable. I don't know how they did it, but these shoes are a wonder.

It’s a top draw shoe though for many will be too compressive just like the invincible run. I have lost count of the number of people who bought that shoe then realised that it’s too squashy for their form. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

I'm always late to the party because I get shoes 6 months or more after release so I can get them cheaper. First run in Rebel2 today, 5.25 US miles. Yes, they are very cushy. And for me they are a half size short, I had one toe that was reaching the end; thinner socks next time. I concur with Juan that they are good for a faster pace than perceived effort, but maybe it's the "new shoes effect". Based on one run, I like them, and will use them for daily runs and tempo work up to 8-10 miles.

Rebel 2 is a banger mate, pure and simple. Ran a 5k pb out of the box first time out, wore them again last week and smashed it by 30 seconds. Just love it.

I prefer to relic my own shoes as well as my guitars thank you very much 😉. Those relic custom shop Strats always remind me of pre-torn jeans! Rebel v2 looks like a possible replacement for my TC once I’ve retired them. Same place in the rotation but at a lower price. Thanks for the review 👍

I always approach dogs with caution just incase i spook them however the only time i didnt was when i took pitty on a 3 legged one..... turns out the little one was one of the fastest dogs I've ever seen! I think it's hilarious they're pretty much the same weight as the Vaporfly. It's early days but these shoes seem fun. I reckon they were bottoming out on steep descents but responsive enough elsewhere. I wonder if they've gone a fraction too soft on the midsole. Super comfy.

@@EDDBUD after this morning's easy 9k I thought the ride was like a Lincoln Continental but with some surprise punch when required. I found it easy to maintain a good forefoot strike. I feel you could easily do some long runs without feeling any soreness. I prefer the more moderate endorphin Pro as a crazy fast allrounder but here it's $319 vs $220 for the Rebel.(down under the earth credits thing). Loving the vids.

This shoe is nice up to 5 miles, even daily, but anything over that puts you at risk hurting your knees. I learned that the hard way. It’s just too soft for the long runs. I like it but once they wear out I’ll move on to something else.

Currently at 270km on my first pair. The midsole still feels like Day 1 (I had my first pair since March 03). Second pair is still inside the box. XD Waiting for the release of the RC Elite 2.

Great review! I am trying to decide which to wear for my upcoming marathon. It’s between these and the Saucony Speed v2’s. Based on your comment about how they could affect the knees later in the run, I may stick to the speeds. Thoughts? By the way I’m a “slow” runner - 11 min per mile is my goal pace for the marathon.

That shoe seem to be almost perfect for Up tempo and long, but I am worried about outsole durability. I don't think their lifespan will get above 300 miles, especially for someone who do part of his training on trail.

i have the 1st version and RC-elite , and have tested Rebel2 at a shop treadmill. Not sure to say its better than Rebel1 as Rebel2 is totally different. Its lighter and and squishier. Its RC-elite1 without carbon plate. The only reason i have not bought it yet is because the shop only have black colorway. I'm waiting for black/red or orange/white.

Absolutely any pace. Felt good slow with a massive heavy back pack and also good at 5k interval pace. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

Same temps in Denmark. Love it. Max temps should be 15 degr. C 😊 Well I run in the Rebel 1. Its a shoe I whould be hesitant to use for anything longer than 21K... Well, 15 K actually. Is the Rebel 2 really that different ?

It’s a great shoe for pace. Not quite sure everyone will enjoy the midsole though. Lots of runners want a bit more support and the midsole is very compressive.

@@EDDBUD , the Endorphin Speed is my fav, although not as responsive (due to the absence of a plate), I feel the Rebel V2 is more comfortable, at least on my feet. Speed has that snappy response, Rebel V2 is more forgiving/softer.

Steve, I have both, not much between them regards stability really. The razor+ is a little firmer and lower feeling but its upper is looser. I personally prefer the rebel, rebel looks nicer too

Only a select few have worn the novablast 2, as such i would say this. The novablast original was not my favourite!

Similar but I find the nitro foam more forgiving underfoot. It’s got more rebound to it. Will do a long run in the nitro this weekend. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻‍♂️

More stable then the Novablast?

For me absolutely. The novablast was an odd one. Low pace only for me.

Nice. Thanks. Liked the Novablast. Could have been a bit more dialed in and a bit of stability wouldn’t hurt. Novablast seems to be the standard of stability for me. If it’s any less unstable then that I will probably leave it be
