The Encore is lauded by coffee experts as THE go-to entry level grinder for those brewing coffee at home. So they thought why not upgrade that model so to an Espresso version keeping the price down which we all love
The biggest change is Baratza redesigned the adjustment assembly which now has two pitches on the ramp, yet retains the same overall grinding range of 1 - 40.
This allows the center cone to raise and lower at different paces.

So effectively the ranges #1-20 optimised for espresso, which have a lot smaller adjustments.
And ranges #21-40 for filter grinds, which obviously have a larger adjustment between notches.
M2 code burr which is from the Virtuoso Plus Grinder, is twice as fast as the regular Encore M3 cone, which has a different geometry.
There is now also a quick release feature on the cone burr, so you can easily remove it for cleaning whichout having to remove the grinder case This make it super easy to clean if it clogs up, with super fine grind.
The Encore was an awesome bang for buck home filter grinder, such good value that you even saw cafes that were only doing a small amount of filter coffee use it for their batch brew grinder.
Now the ESP has taken this one step further and allowed for espresso grinding. I don’t see cafes using this grinder for espresso at all, but as far as an entry level home espresso and filter grinder goes, Baratza have nailed it.
