Unfair comparison. You should have at least one or two great real burgers from real meat.
@SauceStache

I’m not comparing them to real meat, I’m comparing to see what plant based burgers taste more meaty.
@brane2379

@@SauceStache Only real meat is a measure of meatiness. It would be interesting to see them not just in side-by-side comparison but also WRT real meat. - some top-o -the-line real burgers. This would show level of usability of these substitutes. IOW- can they replace real meat in all occassions or some particular circumstances...

Those saying these burgers should be compared, side-by-side with meat burgers, think about who you are asking; either do it yourself, or ask meat eating cooks to make this comparison, for you. Those of us who are plant-based, vegetarian, or vegan, are happy with the substitutions. It allows us to enjoy the aspects we used to get from meat eating, without harming animals, reducing the impact on the environment, and improving the health of our bodies.

Fun story: I'm from Argentina so I can't get these brands here, and when I went to Orlando with my sister (who's vegetarian) we went to Burger King and I asked for one normal burger for me and one veggie whopper for her. When we opened hers, she thought they forgot to make it veggie and I tried it and thought it was meat. It tasted like a regular BK patty, so I went back and told the lady that there's been a mistake, and she was like "nope that's the impossible burger lol". My mind was blown :o So as a meat eater, I can assure you that it does taste like beef! I hope they bring these ones to my country because I don't like the texture of beef burgers anyways, I prefer this impossible one Btw: Please don't come at me for not being vegetarian or vegan, I really enjoy trying out plant-based foods and I love the science behind these things, that's why I'm here :)

I love learning about the science behind cooking vegan dishes to appear as meat; I am not giving up my venison roast. It's a winter season meat, restricted to hunting season and regulations. And usually we all have to share the one we are able to bring in. Eating more vegetables, however, is the goal.

That's great that you are trying and willing to try new meat free subitutes and vegetarian/vegan products ^-^ I'm a fairly new vegetarian myself and I'm loving my journey so far, I'm totally not a judgy person as everyone isn't perfect even me as a new veggie haha, still eat the very occasional meat as a treat. Although I'm going off chicken more and more and much prefer the soy subitutes. they really do taste just like the real thing texture and taste wise. This is coming from a previous big meat eater of alot of chicken, beef free meats I'm still learning to like because of the pea protein. but I'm adjusting my taste buds and wanna get into making my own beef subitute meats and play around with flavour. pork I haven't even tried any subitutes yet but I'm excited too and same with possibly finding a good turkey subitute too. Keep on the journey your on no matter how big or small every little helps but again no judgement here from me! You do whats best for yourself and your health and financial situation. However, I am a 48-year4 Vegan whose taste buds have changed and I just don't like the taste of meat. They could get the Beyond 3.0 and add 2 little sachets to the box. The sachets would have condiments to help 3.0 get the condimented taste of 2.0 version. So with a pack like that, with two 3.0 burger units and 2 sachets, people who prefer the 2.0 would just need to open the sachet and add it to the 3.0 burger, add on top and fry or mix the "meat" itself and remodel the patty and fry. Voilà... Who prefer 3.0 version would just need to do not use the sachets.

@@scottsharp1763 well I totally agree with you, I think you should back up your claims, even a little bit, because we are currently on a part of the internet that is known for getting very very feisty over little things. I guess I'm just worried somebody is going to call you a signs denyer or something or a conspiracy theorist, because you didn't back up your claims. Again, I totally agree with you, and my parents tried very hard to minimize the amount of GMOs that entered our home. If you would like me to give a more detailed explanation, I could, but it's just from my own personal experiences with trying to confront anybody about Monsanto or GMOs or whatever, it seems to become just as touchy of a topic as whether God is real or not, whether Trump or some liberal president is better, whether to whether to revamp the police system, whether vaccines are good or bad or neutral or a danger to society or whatever, weather Israel or Palestine should own the whole piece of land, whatever. I'm not saying I'm on either one of these sides, I'm just giving other examples of topics that people get very very touchy about, and if you don't have what appears to be scientific research to back yourself up with, people will have basically more things to bully you about unnecessarily. Again, I'm not claiming my side on any of these topics, nor do I want to start a comment argument. This is a message for mostly other people here, because I really don't want to debate whether Israel or Palestine is the good guy or bad guy, because I honestly don't believe in good guy or bad guy, or whether God is real, or do I even believe in Jesus or not, whatever. I'm not here for an argument, just trying to point out some things, and trying to give some cautionary suggestions for making a hot take in a comment section

@@otakumangastudios3617 look up GMO impossible burger and the first or second search will say “impossible meats use MULTIPLE GMOs in their products” Also before the “beyond meat” patties were released the GMO/MONSANTO side DELAYED THE RELEASE OF THE BEYOND MEAT PATTY SO THEY COULD COMPETE AND GET THEM IN THE FAST FOOD INDUSTRY and not lose oot on all that money or new chances to spread the cancer through lies n their pockets. If anyone is on the internet they can easily check anden if “healthy people” actually FACTUALLY did their own research especially with easily known and admitted cancers in the ingredients. Also people are welcome to eat them, smoke them, put them in their lips and body parts all they want, just proper to let the people know that one of these burger options is factually cancerous/GMO for sure on purpose, makes the choice very very very simple. @@SauceStache Yeah, between the Impossible and the older Beyond burgers, the Impossible definitely tasted beefier. Not like regular ground beef though, deeper. Almost like angus. I also like how the Impossible Patties don't shrink when they cook, and they cook in half the time. I can make two home made impossible whoppers in 5 minutes lol.

I agree with your partner's order of preference. I never minded the original beyond burger smell. The new one definitely is more like what I remember real meat taste and texture and is just as bland but got rid of the smell that many complained about.

@@Frontdesk_tragedy Well, there's more to the story than that, but I won't dwell on it. I support the mission statement of both companies and am on board the fight for animal liberation. The CEO of Impossible Foods even said, “Our mission is to completely replace the use of animals as a food technology by 2035. We’re dead serious about it and we believe it’s doable,” So I'll forgive them for doing a lot of non-vegan friendly things along the way (e.g. initially promoting Impossible Burgers with cow-milk-cheese at restaurants).

@@Frontdesk_tragedy there's no fear mongering. The burger wasn't made with vegans in mind, hence the animal testing. Many of us vegans will prefer Beyond because we don't support the unnecessary animal testing on hundreds of intelligent beings. Simple as that.

@@DA-js7xz Although I lean more towards your perspective, let's not fight with each other. We should put the animals first. They’re both just roughly the same, even though they do taste different. On a sidenote, Sam’s Club is really good about steeply marking down their stuff that they’re getting rid of. Wonder if they’ll be clearancing out the current stock of beyond burger patties to make way for the new Patty? If anyone runs across that please let us know!

Haven’t tried the new version of beyond yet but I’ll give it a try when I see it. I was one of the ones that hated that flavor and that smell 🤢… I preferred impossible, but I only had it very few times as I always felt guilty eating it for some odd reason 🙈. But I’m glad impossible is available to cook it at home. When I had it out, I had a few very tearful scares and drove my spouse crazy because I wasn’t sure if it I ate real cows meat (haven’t had the actual stuff in like 25 yrs) 😫😂… After a few times I stopped ordering it out 🙈…

Never tried impossible because you can‘t buy it in Germany. Hate that we are like a couple of years behind with the cool stuff. There is like one single shop that has Beyond mince and sausage since a month. Instead we have a ton of companies that make all the same low tier meat replacements that are just okish.

If Beyond Burger got rid of the "cat food smell", then I will definitely give it another try. To me, in the raw state it really did smell like "cat food", it was kind of disgusting and would stink up the room also after it was cooked. To be fair, it didn't taste bad once it was cooked, but I preferred the Impossible burger taste so at that point there was no reason to give the Beyond another try. But if they did get rid of that odor, it's worth another look.

The main reason they use the 3 different protein sources, the mung bean, peas, brown rice extract is because the combination of the 3 rounds out to make a complete protein the proper amino acid profiles they want it to be. Makes it the most complete they can make it is why they have those 3 there. Maybe it's for some of the reasons you say but the complete protein and nutrition profile is main reason.

I haven't tried the new Beyond Burger, but I love the old one. In Canada it does have a slightly different formula in it to adhere to Canadian regulations, so I don't know if it tastes the same as the ones in the States. But, I have tried the Impossible Burger. I haven't tried the new version, but my husband and I both like both companies' products. I have also used Kroger's version, which they call Emerge, which is usually between 50-60% cheaper, and goes on sale more often. It is similar in texture and taste to the original Beyond, which is great for my minced onion, low broil method, in which the Impossible doesn't do quite as well. The latter tends to dry out a bit, in spite of having fresh minced onion mixed in. We have tended to prefer Impossible as just a plain burger, done up as Burger King does theirs, because it has some sort of grilled taste, even at home, which goes super well with the fresh tomato, lettuce, onion, vegan mayo dill pickle, and dot of ketchup, and takes Vegan Chao cheeze extremely well. I did ours "deluxe" recently, by caramelising onion slices and mushrooms in a pan, then adding those to the Impossible after flipping them just once, finishing the cooking, then topping them with the cheeze till melted and slightly browned, then served as described, only subbing in a touch of brown mustard for the dill pickles, and no fresh onion. The other way, with the minced onions, keeps them moister, adds nice flavour, texture, and a bit of allicin, as well as helping a half pound make four decent-sized patties that are lighter on the digestion, with less bloating, versus not adding the minced onions, and having denser burgers, that end up sitting like rocks in the stomach. Not sure why, but hey, it is what it is, and that is, just something we have a couple times a month, rather than like my family, where we had usually plain actual burgers once or twice a week. Dad sometimes did what he called Teyiyaki Burgers, by adding the m.o.s, but also, cooked white rice and soy sauce, cooked on a charcoal grill, some of them with barbecue sauce slathered for even more flavour. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. I'm actually a little worried it will take me back so strongly that I might get a bit upset (as he died in 2001, and my sister died in 2018, so I can never share this with them). One last idea for you: Using a half pound of the ground, added to five or six leaves of chopped cabbage, a third of a chopped onion and six or 8 chopped baby carrots (or the equivalent amount of regular mirepoix), with a touch of oil, salt, and pepper, and/or some Osem consomme, then add in one can of generic "chili hot beans." You will need to add water, enough to allow the cabbage to fully cook, and the beans to be entirely soft, adding more if you want it to be a soup, less if you want a stew.
