My study of the LANGUAGE of the SPEAKERS in the Book of Mormon offers irrefutable evidence that Joseph Smith COULD NOT have written it! In this video, I show new and never-before discovered evidence that there are MULTIPLE AUTHORS in the Book of Mormon.
This video is part of my Authenticity Series, where I show NEW evidences and NEW ways of looking at prior evidences of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, and the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The hateful podcasts are still spreading the lie that Joseph Smith mistranslated the Book of Abraham papyrus. One by the name of Paul Gregersen debunked the arrogant Egyptologist opinions against Joseph Smith by presenting proper interpretational understanding on translation. Nonetheless the hateful podcasts still spread the lie that Joseph Smith mistranslated the papyrus characters.

6:15 - regarding the use of the filler words "Therefor" and "Wherefor", this topic has been addressed in some depth by Brent Metcalf in "The Priority of Mosiah: A Prelude to Book of Mormon Exegesis". It turns out that this is used to show that Joseph Smith transitioned from one word to the other in his other writings as well in the process of translating the Book of Mormon. It can be shown that after the 116 pages were lost, Joseph picked up the translation process in Mosiah using this theory - something which mainstream LDS scholars now widely concede/accept. Furthermore, the church now accepts that the Book of Mormon was not translated as Joseph claimed in JS history. The Urim and Thummim (understood to be the spectacles) were not in fact used after the 116 pages were lost, with the entire translation being done with the brown seer stone. Skousen (a prominent BYU BOM scholar) concludes that Joseph and Oliver were deceptive in their descriptions of the translation. When you say that the translation was "exactly" how Joseph described, you are going against prominent, mainstream LDS scholarship. Please consider doing additional research and being more truthful in your presentations. Wherefor/therefor has been known since the 1990s - you are not the first one to discover this - and other scholars draw different conclusions than you do based on these findings.

As I have stated in other comments, I was unaware of others having discovered the same thing I did. "Wherefore and Therefore" are a very small part of the overall case for the Book of Mormon. I am going to put together a video soon on things that literally have NO explanation, other than divine knowledge and revelation. Also my video on Scott's conversion has things impossible to explain. It may or may not be as you have stated, but try watching my video on the OJ Simpson trial and the Book of Mormon. It discusses the concept of getting hung up on one thing and throwing everything out because of it. See what you think?

@@chadwright1006 The basic premise of the Book of Mormon is that it is an ancient text written by an Israeli population. The concept of Chiasmus is submitted as a proof of this proposition. However, as you like word analysis, there is a much simpler analysis which one can do. Simply do a number search for all of the number (1-20) in the text of the Book of Mormon and compare this with the old and New Testaments. Just graph out the frequency. You will see the number 3 stick out in the New Testament. And you will see the number 7 and 12 stick out in the old testament (and to a lesser extent the new testament). However, you actually have fewer #7s in the Book of Mormon than 6 or 8. It's pretty clear from this simple (and repeatable) analysis that it's not an ancient Hebrew text. The Jews were concerned with the number 7, and that concern is entirely absent from the Book of Mormon. Look up Usage of Numbers in the Book of Mormon on Mormonscholar if you don't want to do the analysis yourself.

Another interesting thing that I haven't seen anyone cover is the use of First Person versus Third Person perspectives. Especially in Alma 5: 5, where halfway through the verse it switches from Third Person to First Person as Alma recounts the journey of his father. That certainly wouldn't be an easy thing to keep straight if someone was dictating something that they made up as they went.
@chadwright1006
@chadwright1006 Год назад
I haven’t ever noticed that in Alma 5:5! Interesting. The most dramatic switch from first to third person of course is the switch from Nephi’s Small Plates (direct translation) to Mormon’s abridgment of the Large Plates in Mosiah. Lots of first person accounts in it, but not Mormon’s commentary (except Words of Mormon and Mormon’s self-named Book after 3rd Nephi). DEFINITELY not easy to keep track of all the switches if you were writing a hoax!!

Chad, at the end you list reasons and need to add that the BofM was translated in less than 90 days. That little info adds to its not being done by one man. In fact there were several scribes that wrote down what Joseph translated via the urim and thummim. Even his wife helped from time to time. For me there are two continents and God spoke to His prophets on both continents who spoke to the people of both continents. A Father communicating to His children. Not a hard concept to accept. THanks for the great video and such a great way to analyze the simple fact. Its a big wow.

Well I’m of the opinion that it doesn’t matter to some people the amount of truth that they hear. If they’re unwilling to listen and unwilling to change it’s just never gonna happen for them. They would rather live in denial and live in their sin then make changes. But the hilarious part about it is the only people they’re hurting is themselves. Because whatever sins they are not willing to give up and repent for they will suffer for. They try so hard to have these “I gottcha moments”. But anybody who is truly felt the spirit knows that the book of Mormon is true. That they know the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints is the true church of God.

I've been practicing my fiction writing craft for 20 years, and I have a lot of respect for authors who can write different speech patterns for different characters. That's a skill that needs a lot of practice. In my latest reading of the Book of Mormon I've noticed more markedly when there's a change in narrator - intuitively. I've never run this rigorous of analysis that you have. That's way cool.

Thank you! I was just talking to my wife last week about how it's taken me decades of reading the Book of Mormon to be able to HEAR the different characters. It's so subtle. But when I started with the word analysis, I was able to SEE the differences. I remember the day I put it together and the data started matching what I could hear. Like a big window opened and I could finally see! So cool.

@@chadwright1006 I emailed Royal Skousen about a variation I had noticed in word usage: "counsel" (in the earliest text) is used in its archaic sense in Mormon's abridgment, then in the modern sense in Jacob's section of the Small Plates. I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, but from our correspondence it seemed that he had not really considered that the translation would have reflected the different authors, but that there could be something to it: room for more investigation. I've found his lectures (along with Stan Carmack) fascinating. I'd like to think this is indeed an area of Book of Mormon textual criticism that still has a lot of open opportunity. In my mind it makes perfect sense that the translation being a "tight translation" - directly revealed - picks up bumps, so to speak. In other words, a directly-revealed text could have smoothed out all ambiguities and assumed an omniscient narrative voice, but that's not what I see. The more seriously I take the Book of Mormon for what it claims to be, the more sharply the idiosyncrasies, agendas and limitations of the individual authors stand out; I trust that the divine translation process preserved that as important evidence.

Wait a second. You claim that it's impossible that the book of Mormon was written by a singular person. But wasn't it translated by one person only? And isn't it normal to expect an overall similar vocabulary in translation if there is one translator only? Moreso, you don't have the original text or the original language to compare it to. You have to trust the testimony of a single man, which is contrary to the old testament principle of at least 2 or 3 witnesses. And I'm talking about the testimony of the exactitude of the translated text, not about witnesses of a book which they have no idea how to read it in the original. So I conclude that your argument is fallacious
@chadwright1006
@chadwright1006 Год назад
What makes you think all the differences between the original authors would be eliminated because there is only one translator? "Wherefore" and "Therefore" apparently translate differently, or there wouldn't have been such a glaring difference in their distribution. And I guess we'll have to throw away all of Moses' writings because he was the only one who saw the burning bush? And Paul's since nobody else saw the vision, or heard the voice? Or the entire book of Revelation, since John was alone on the Isle of Patmos?
@stefan-rarescrisan5116
@stefan-rarescrisan5116 Год назад
You missed my point. We have the original Hebrew text in Hebrew, we have the original Greek text of the New Testament. You don't have the original text in it's original language. I'm not referring to the exact manuscript of Paul or Peter or Mormon, as written by their hands. I'm referring to the text in it's original language. You have to trust just one man, Smith, for that. And your word analysis runs into a lot of assumptions because of that. Which makes your case irrelevant. Can you tell me the original word behind "therefore" or "wherefore"?
@camillan7464
@camillan7464 8 месяцев назад
@@stefan-rarescrisan5116 , as a professional translator, I too would have loved to know what the original words for "therefore" and "wherefore" were. I think a lot of languages don´t have those two different words, only one. But the fact remains that it´s quite far fetched to think Joseph Smith would have changed the style for different authors. And as an author/translator myself, I have a very hard time deviating from my own writing style. If I would have translated the book of Mormon (presuming I would have known the original language) into my native Scandinavian language, I would probably have translated "wherefore" and "therefore" into one word of my preference, thinking it´s not necessary to vary between the two.

Thanks for the question. I have considered that one many times, and the conclusions I've arrived at are that 1) Strengthening the faith of the faithful is of great importance for many reasons, not the least of which is that NOBODY, no matter how solid, is immune from the cunning wiles of the adversary. Faith MUST be continually strengthened, since it is ALSO continually being chipped away at. And 2) If a single viewer is inspired in any way to question their anti-LDS bias, or is wavering on the fence, and what I present helps to move the needle towards the truth even a little, it is all worth it to me. There's SO MUCH negativity out there, that I feel what I do is just a little part of a very necessary resistance. I hope that gives a little perspective. Thanks again!

You are not the first person to look at stylometry (wordprint analysis) of the Book of Mormon. See (1) "Who Wrote the Book of Mormon? An Analysis of Wordprints" by Larsen, Rencher, and Layton in BYU Studies Vol. 20, No. 3 (1980); (2) "On Verifying Wordprint Studies" by Hilton in BYU Studies Vol. 30, No. 3 (1990); (3) "Comparative Power of Three Author-Attribution Techniques for Differentiating Authors" by Archer in Journal of Book of Mormon Studies Vol. 6, No. 1 (1997); and (4) "Stylometric Analyses of the Book of Mormon: A Short History" by Roper in Journal of Book of Mormon Studies Vol. 21 (2012). I'm sure there's more. The differing results show stylometry currently cannot determine who authored something; more work in the field is needed. Note that there are only 3 narrators in the Book of Mormon: Nephi (small plates), Mormon (abridger of large plates), and Moroni. See Hardy's "Understanding the Book of Mormon." Other "filler word" analysis I've seen was (1) in "An Imperfect Book" by Wunderli (2023, pp. 97-148) and (2) "therefore" and "wherefore" helped Brent Metcalfe establish Mosiah was written first (see "The Priority of Mosiah: A Prelude to Book of Mormon Exgesis" in New Approaches to the Book of Mormon: Explorations in Critical Methodology [1993]).

Wow. Some points I never thought of on the filler words. If Joseph made this book up he was a genius idk. Good chance this record was true history. Even if Church has made mistakes like all men will this book is hard to argue with

The Book of Mormon is obviously false. Anachronisms, copying from the KJV Bible, similarities to contemporary literature, etc. Mormons like to have it both ways. Joseph Smith was too dumb to write it but was also brilliant enough to lead God’s restored church. There’s nothing saying Smith couldn’t have spent years creating outlines of characters and stories before he began “translating.” He wouldn’t let anybody see what he was doing. The book’s also objectively bad. It’s not a good read. It rambles over and over again about the same concepts. Includes stories that seem to go nowhere. Storylines seem to go unresolved. There’s very little about it that comes across as impressive from a literary standpoint. It took me several attempts to get through it.

The BOM is easily provably false as it directly contradicts the BIBLE the actual tested verified word of GOD. 1.Was JS using a seer stone long before he wrote the BOM yes. 2.Did Joseph participate in treasure digging for a living yes and he was convicted in a court of law about a year before the BOM was published. 3.Did Joseph Smith participate in occultic practices? Yes he sacrificed several animals saying it was necessary to locate the treasure. It is a matter of record that one treasure hunt JS said it required a human sacrifice. 4. Did Joseph Smith accurately translate the book of Abraham? No we know without a doubt that he did not translate what he proclaimed to be the book of Abraham. Mormon church leaders acknowledged this when the text JS purchased was recovered in the early 1900s. The BOA and BOM were written in the same Egyptian language according to JS. 5. Did JS marry multiple women including under age girls? Yes JS was marrying as young as 14 in fact he was marrying other women without first telling his wife in fact he was marrying other women who were already married and it was BEFORE his revelation on plural marriages. 6. Did most witnesses recant there testimony about seeing the plates or whether JS was a prophet? Yes. The church still uses all the original character witnesses to verify JS as a Prophet but when they recant there testimony about JS the church then says they are not reliable witnesses. This includes the original 3 witnesses that "saw" the magic plates and JS wife and JS mother. 7. Doesnt the bible says if a prophet is wrong even once he is a false prophet? Yes Deuteronomy 13 as well as Deuteronomy 18-22 explain the test of a prophet and yes JS fails as well as all other Mormon prophets after him. 8 Isnt the BOM the official inerrant word of God? No, their are numerous changes to the BOM and D&C that change core Mormon doctrine. JS account of of meeting with the angels has changed four times D&C has been edited to change course on doctrine such as Blacks are curesed by God, Plural Marriage, Even the idea of heaven has gone through several changes in the BOM and D&C. 9. Did JS translate the Kinderhook plates? He tried but then they were found to be fakes so it became clear that JS translation was again false. 10. Are there people that live on the moon that dress like Quakers? No there are no people living on the moon. Overall the church has told so many lies since it inception that today you cannot get any Mormons to even give a clear concise answer on issues listed above. about half the Mormon church openly denies JS participated in plural marriage. Another good portion or Mormons will acknowledge the marriages but say they were spiritual sealings and not physical marriages. It appears as though each ward is left to itself to come up with explanations on there own for each of these issue. When you present the facts and evidence to a Mormon they will "put it on their shelf" which just means they flat out ignore facts and logic presented to them and wont even respond or acknowledge the truth presented. Yes there is a lot more evidence to proves the entire Mormon religion as false you can find it on the LDS website as well as FAIR or any other Mormon defending site because all defenses made by Mormons directly contradict other defenses Mormons make. An example above is using and discounting the testimony of those closest to JS to prove he is a prophet but then say they are all liars when they recant there testimony. The bible is the only true word of God. You will not get your own planet and become a god yourself one day either. Why? because God said he is the only God there are none before him or after him.

Yes, Before the JS and there BOM the was another person who was poorly educated and could not read or write that was supposedly a messenger of God. That prophet too claimed the bible was corrupted as well and only the Koran was the true teachings of God. Yes that prophet had several incorrect prophecies and writings. Yes that false prophet also adopted plural marriage and though it cool to marry 9 year old.

I came here hoping for new scholarship but nope not even close. Where’s the academic rigor? Did you even look at previous research done on this topic? That’s usually where research starts. I’d suggest starting with Brent Metcalf’s work in this topic. Current linguistic models don’t suggest multiple authors but one author of the BofM. The best apologetic for this finding is to argue that this “one author” was Mormon+Moroni. Mark my words the days of the church defending the BoM as a translation are numbered, it soon will be “A Revelation” much like the Book of Abraham. As the BoM is the BofA once was, as the BofA is the BoM WILL become. An academic study of the BofM shows definitively that it is a 19th century book, the church knows this and is slowly shifting the goalposts. I think by 2050 it will be a revelation. Just watch what words the Q15 are starting to slide into talks. The days of prophets boldly declaring “the truth” are over, there will never be another Bruce R McConkie, only wishy-washy business managers trying to hold things together.

You can make all the theological arguments that you like, but when talking about Occam's Razor, please do not invent Occam's argument. What he said is that when considering several possibilities WITH EQUAL EXPLANATORY POWER, the simplest is MOST PROBABLY the correct one. Sorry about the all-caps. When investigating plane crashes, for example, the simplest explanation is most frequently that the pilot fell asleep. But in reality, this almost never happens, if ever. The real cause is usually enormously complicated but investigators in almost every case can give a precise and reliable conclusion. For you, Occam's Razor is a nice little word game that sometimes comes in handy. For those who actually know what it is, it is a true philosophical principle in the search for reliable information. In this case, maybe the simplest solution to the riddle is that Joseph Smith did write the whole Book of Mormon with several writing styles. But the possibility with most explanatory power is that several people did participate in some way, or were copied by Smith.

OR that it happened the way he said. Since that would account for everything.
@andresvillarreal9271
@andresvillarreal9271 11 месяцев назад
@@chadwright1006 Probably the simplest solution is "it happened the way he said". But Every writer of fiction plays with giving each character a different speaking style. If you declare that Smith could not possibly give each character a different speaking style without God's intervention, then you have to accept that every novel writer who is not college educated was inspired by a god. And there are many. As I said, the simplest hypothesis is not what Occam's Razor is about.

@@chadwright1006 The phrase "Since that would account for everything" is meaningless. "My magic unicorn did it for me" also accounts for everything. What would really differentiate my magic unicorn and Smith's claims is what you and I can demonstrate without resorting to our claimed gods in a circular argument.
