I had Rigid for ten years, worked great , but wanted drawers . I looked at Milwaukee, to bulky, Dewalt, rocks back and forth the boxes don't seat, Flex , the drawers way a ton empty, Kobalt , seemed too heavy. I tried these out, and the drawers seemed decent balance and not too heavy. You can stack and unstack easily and put the drawers in the middle. You have an instant work station and easy access to your tools 👍
Honestly all of these systems have their strengths and weaknesses. Personally I use Packout 15” tool bags and small organizers for carpentry tools, Electrical and plumbing. I like how the 15” bags work with the small organizers to hold extra tools, hole saws, parts. Tough system for my cordless rough carpenter tools and to act as main transport as there rack system is most convenient for storage in trailers and sheds. And Tstak/Versastak for finish work and general maintenance tools along with tough cases for bits. I’ve made an adapter plate out of Toughsystem, Tstak/Versa crates with 3D printed Packout plates to attach to my Toughsystem for transport. Bottom line. There is an amazing variety of tool boxes available and I still use buckets and crates too. Jeff, thanks for your reviews!
@@jeffostroff It seems we have similar needs. I’m on the west coast. Have rental properties and do remodels. Which requires a lot of different tools. Currently I’m using the Verstak bag for maintenance/ handy/ daily jobs. I like that I can attach the small socket set when needed. I haven’t replaced my plumbing Husky bag yet. I might keep it for old plumbing stuff. I will switch to 15” Packout bag as it lends itself well to customizing with the 5 compartment organizers. Especially now that I’ve gone to Pex. When all these system toolboxes came out I made the mistake of giving each tool it’s own box. What a pain when it came to remodeling. As you know you never know what tool you’ll need on a given day. So now I’ve gone to Mainly three. A rolling box for all my cordless saws. The middle box for drills and impact. The top for batteries. (M18, DEWALT, Ryobi). Top it all off with clear fastener organizer and stereo. Keep up the great video’s.
Your video may be 2yrs old from April 2024, it was an excellent comparison video. I did end up just buying the Chraftsman. I'll be converting this setup to house my solar project. Thanks very much. !!!!
I'm not sure which major flaws you are talking about and which ones are not durable. Because our tough system to review video showed that it work just fine keeping the water sealed out and they survived the drop tests. So usually statements like these are made by people that don't actually own the product they are criticizing.
Just got mine yesterday have not even put my stuff in it yet but its goin to be just like the versa stack but this one is a little bigger more trade worthy and they will be making all kinds of add ones and I have 2 full versa stack sets that will attach to this also game changer for craftsman they will be in top shortly in my experiance they already are with the quality and price kills the comp I have used the v20 stuff almost every tool and no complaints at all over 3 years of usage and no issues and they keep making it all better same caliber as dewalt at half the price
This is awesome! Very comparable to tough system 2.0. I still like the dewalt system better but this one has a lot of room for development. Can't wait to see what they add to the tower for accessories. Thanks for another great video good sir!
Great comprehensive comparison that is especially helpful for this non-professional DIY-er... I may not be a 'road warrior' hauling tools to work sites, but I'm looking for a good storage system that allows me to haul things to from my garage, my basement workshop, deck, or a quick project to help aging parents or friends. THANKS~
I appreciate it!, yes about 12 hours of video editing, and fighting the software which kept freezing trying to render it, I was up until 5:30 this morning trying to get it done.
As someone who wins the Versastack I like it and don't give a shit what Bear from Den of tools said...I own this Tower now and helps me around with my tools👍🏼
Love the detail and thought you put into these reviews. As an owner of the dw TS2 which I use for carpentry, and bought the Husky Connect system for my wife to use in her horse trailer, (first aid, grooming supplies, etc... We really like the HC system) I was looking for a versatile system for mechanics tools. I was thinking of the Versa stack, but after seeing the reviews of the Trade Stack, even with the adapter weakness, I'll be going with this new system. One additional thing you didn't show was that all of the bit boxes can also stack directly on the adapter. Oh and I'll probably pick up a versa stack drawer unit to go with it.
Personally I've never had a latch on my Dewalt 1.0 boxes fail, I have a couple different versions. I have loose boxes with the dolly cart with arms so you can take seperatre boxes off instead of box off of box. But I also have that version with the bottom box built in, that rides in the back of my truck and is so old it's light Grey instead of black. But 0 failures even though everyone said they would.
I did the same thing got the packout boxes with crate for the one day deal and I also picked up that same impact driver kit with packout box for 130 bucks when it went on sale from the 199 dollar price @18:15
Thanks. I am trying to start a business. I won’t be going over rough terrain, so I’d been looking at this as an entry point. I really like Pack out and StackTech but I really can’t afford it now. Yet I do need tool organization that is more complete than all the different tool bags and cases I have everything in. I’ve been watching for a while just wasn’t sure this would be okay.

That measuring tape clip is pretty cool. I screwed a measuring tape clip/pencil storage/pencil sharpener to my tough system 1.0 along with a couple screws for my charger to drop on to maybe a year before that.
Great review. Thanks for all the testing you did, (so I don't have to drop mine) it gave me confidence in my purchase. I bought mine as separate components, I got the two drawer medium box in place of the top opening box. I'll let you know how it does.
Great video 📹👍👏👌 seems like a solid system specially because it's compatible with the t stack and the versastack. The only thing that I see breaking might be the plastic latches but still feel durable. Im sure you can buy replacement parts or maybe craftsman will cover it under warranty.
During testing they did not break just the one clasp on the small tool box popped off, but it pops right back on like nothing ever happened so it is probably designed to just pop off when it is dropped
The Versastack was awesome but I did not like the main box with handle because it would unhook from the handle when I lift the lid. Also it did not fit underneath my tonneau cover. I took it back, and got the Tough System 2.0 because you can remove the handle effortlessly. That was what won me over.
I don't know when the Ryobi is coming I already have the tough system 2.0 tower and have done a separate review on that, I think all three of these towers for the Milwaukee, the D Walt, and the trade stack are all pretty much in the same league and remember they are all made by keter in Israel
To remove the handle, the tabs on the plastic pieces at the bottom of the handle needs to be shaved off. Remove the plastic pieces at the bottom of the handle and shave off the extra material around the sides. Reinstall the plastic pieces back in and there you have it. You can choose to leave the plastic pieces off too but then that means no protection at the bottom end of the handle from scraping the ground.
you don't have to hold the red latch down, just click it and lift, also you can hang tools in any of the slots on the handle not just the center. Also there is a new tradestack organizer out and two new tradestack totes. just fyi.
I like the shape of it because it's bigger than the first generation versa stack I wish they would have kept the metal clips on it. I like the longer handle and the feature where you can wrap a extension cord around it. It also seems like those pieces that came off maybe need to be made of a more harder plastic, but other than that the Price is Right. I can't see myself dropping mines from a height like you did Jeff but still that was a good test. Thanks for sharing.#PEACE 👍🏾
Hi I know its been a while since the video was uploaded, but i was wodering about the weight of the boxes, if you have the information i would apreciete it, i am lokking for some light wheight boxes
i messed with one that had been separated at my Lowes. I am a longtime fan of the TS and tstak, and for about the same money as a TS2.0 kit, tower, the TS seemed so much stronger and the weight ratings are higher. Unless i convert over to QBrick, which is possible i may get this TradeStack when its on sale.
Fab review, Jeff. Thank you. Do you think the ToughSystem 2.0 trays should fit fine inside the TradeStack boxes? That could be a game changer for me. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
great video :D you will probably hate my suggestion but dont you think the drop tests would be more usefull with boxes with some contents inside? (dropping a empty box probably much less likely to be happening to end users vs dropping a fully loaded box with valuable tools)
@@jeffostroff 40lb sand bag would probably work ok. hardly anything would likely survive a roof drop, but a standard height, say 3ft/1m on a corner or edge would be a good comparison. Call ProjectFarm.
20:06 If you look at how the latches were installed you'll notice that they are replaceable if Craftsman sells them. The entire assembly clicks into place.
I would love the Craftsman Trade Stack if the handle was removable. It will not fit under my truck cover. I purchased the DeWalt 2.0 only for this reason which of course is more $$$. Any idea how I could remove the Craftsman handle and save some bucks? The DeWalt is an excellent kit but my needs would be covered with the Trades Stack.
Good review. Good price now with the Black Friday deal. I already have several versa stack and T stack. Will the DeWalt 2.0 lock on to this system? Thanks.
No, only the DeWalt T-Stack system works on this, using the same adapter plate that came in the Tradestack kit for the versastack. Remember, DeWalt T-stack works with versastack, so it uses that same adapter rplate
The Packout is great but that large wheeled box with the handle doesn't let me close my Accord's trunk. If I could remove that handle the Packout would fit in any size car. Anyway, great review Jeff! Oh yea, did you do that Paver driveway yourself? It sure looks impressive!
It is removable, but it’s not the same as the ToughSystem 2.0. You can modify it though. I think Jake of All shows you how to do it. Then it’s a quick and easy disconnect.
Now hears the real question? Can you use that adapter for the versa stack on the dewalt 2.0 to attach the tstack to your tough system 2.0 since tstack and versa stack are compatible???
No the adapter plate does not plug onto Toughsystem 2.0. The TS 2.0 has side latching, and this new Craftsman TradeStack has front latching. I bet you can design one and 3d print your own adapter
I really appreciate not only this review but all the measurements! Massive help. Thank you. I have a random question: I am actually a jewelry designer. I want to store my jewelry and items I bring to craft shows in this or something like it. I already have the Fleming 20.5-in 3-Drawer Yellow Plastic Wheels. I want both to have wheels and come apart so I can hide them under my tables. Toolboxes aren't quite on brand ;). I'm curious if you think this Craftsman or the Rigid is better for what I'm looking for. Or if you suggest something else. I definitely want something wider than my Fleming. I appreciate any advice you have to share. Thanks!
This is equivalent to Ridgid and I believe made by Keter, just tike Ridgid. Issue with Ridgid is if you want to use their compartment organizers, they are $36 each. But the Craftsman organizers are only $22. www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=versastack
I see the craftsman for I think 99 dollars at Lowes right now. It seems to have the smallest wheels and would make a difference for rolling down my gravel driveway from garage to house (single wide).
So true about the plastic. Funnily enough my first cheapest Stanley tool box had all plastic latches and they never broke over many many years of use but ive broken a metal latch on one of my craftsman boxes though due to rough use when it caught on another box in my truck bed when shoving it in the bed hard after a long work day lol. And gotta say the easier a latch latches the nicer it is when using the box to make a living with where your hands take enough abuse without having to deal with hard to latch latches like my Dewalt latches. Im liking the whole latching mech on the Craftsman. Geese the drop test was almost as cringy as when Vince ran over one of the boxes lol.
The drop tests are cool but a real world simulation would require weight inside to simulate tools. I don’t see a situation where we would drop an empty toolbox. Great review, though!
Are you talking about padlock Security? Yes each of the cases has a hole for a padlock on there to lock them closed. As for the latching of the boxes it is a front latch only you slide the box on top of the box beneath it and it latches on the front underneath the big red button
@@jeffostroff You are correct regarding the ownership of Stanley on Dewalt and Craftsman. but in fact there are two different factories (companies) in Israel. one is Keter who manufacture Milwaukee and the other one is Stanley who manufacture dewalt.
The front locking mechanism sounds like it's a great feature, but I think that over time, the plastic locking piece will wear out, especially if the boxes are loaded with tools.
This is a very good deal for 149$. I bought dewalt toughsystem 2.0 mobile box with ts 1.0 bundle of medium and organizer box. Then I went to Lowe’s and saw tradestack. Listen to this please, plastic is much better quality on craftsman tradestack, dewalt feels really cheap. The latching system on toughsystem 1.0 is a total disaster, there’s no room to grab the side latches , you can only do it with tips of your fingers, and it’s hard. Latching system on 2.0 is good but doesn’t look like it will survive long on my jobsites . I spent close to 200$ on dewalt system and it’s too late for me to return it, if I saw the tradestack earlier, I would get it right away. If you are on a budget, go with craftsman tradestack or Ridgid pro (my friend has it, heavy duty, durable and well made), if you have money to spend, go for milwaukee packout. Dewalt is just not good, I already listed it on Craigslist hoping to get at least some money back. Good luck!
@@jeffostroff Thank you. I found it on Lowe's website for $149. The reason Why I asked is our local Lowe's is selling in store the Craftsman Versa Stack system $149. They did not have the Craftsman Tradestack.
As far as the made in USA with global materials, most likely the big 3 plastic boxes are molded in their plants in South Carolina as well as anything else that's plastic and not rubberized except for maybe the wheels, although the wheels could be molded here. The smaller red boxes may very well be from Keter in Israel and the metal parts and gaskets are probably imported. That's just my guess, but they do a lot more than put stuff together even if the tasks are automated by machines.
Might do some of that later as well. Dropping it from 9' empty is probably the same as dropping it off your truck that off your truck full of tools 3' off the ground
