That's what I honestly thought too, but my friend works for a gaming company. He said that they are all generally acquainted with each area of programming; however, they are grouped and focus on their specialty. However, when there is an urgent need, they usually take some people from the other groups and put them into the group that needs the help.
Awesome flying gibs! I did notice how the Carriers don't break apart. Hopefully they will add that animation soon. Wouldn't mind seeing Cattlebruisers crashing spectacularly as well.
Noticeable effects upon death for each race: Zerg: Hydraulics activate Protoss: Fireworks are released Terran: Looks like an episode of "Will it Blend" Nice work Blizzard
omg those explosions and rag doll effects are so, entertaining.. lol. I'm going to have so much fun in a ladder game, but also distracted, lol I could see the pro's being distracted too. :P
you are right man, this is perfect! it's not overdone at all! this only happens when siege tanks hit you, what do you expect? you would rarely see these animations with other units .... PLEASE BLIZZARD KEEP THESE ANIMATIONS!
The colossus death looks pretty cool now, but especially the fact that units launch in the air against banelings and the way it looks, when marines/marauders die to tanks, is just silly... + I can imagine that it's even harder now to have the control in teamfights without using worse graphic effects because you just see parts of units flying everywhere.
Pros almost always play on lowest graphics options. Considering WoL's lowest graphics options don't even include death animations at all (not even fancy ones, units literally just disappear when they die), it's safe to guess those new animations won't show up in HotS's lowest graphics options.
Believe it or not, when things are hit with an explosive, they don't just instantly disappear like you think they do. They tend to go flying like they do in this video.
the physics are much more real in this, when units are moving forward when they get blown to shit their parts ended up moving forward to. I also heard infantry units can fall off ledges, i would love to see that happen
Yeah obviously you could before with all the storms colossus explosions that existed, also it's awesome how they added how dead debris can now fly in to caves and fall down caverns xD
Some units seem to fly too far, others are just right and still others need tweeking. All in all an interesting visual upgrade. I hope the new death animations don't clutter what the gamer needs to see.
I can't think of a single Protoss unit that "blasts" enemies that would cause this effect. Except maybe the Immortal- and even then not really. Which is a shame because I'm loving these new animations. It will make spectating even more fun. I just hope Protoss don't get the short end of the stick when it comes to that.
Hey HDstarcraft, very nice video 1 thing that would be realy nice if you would mass a large battle between 2 large armies so we can see how this new animation can make the large scale warfare more real life rather that the same spats in the previous games
Its not the shrapnel so much as the blast itself, but you're mostly right it would take a very large explosive to make something that weight fly like that. a 1000lb explosive MIGHT flip an armored vehicle
The Carrier by Thor is my favorite. But Blizzard seems to have gone for the 'throw everything across the area' as oppose to a more personalized/stylized animation to each units' death that I'd think would be more interesting. I mean, these types will get old fast if say, a Carrier explodes like a shooting star when shot down by a group of Thors versus just Marines' bullets...
I thought they all looked pretty good, with the minor exception of the banelings. Their death animations looked fine, but when they detonate it feels like they shouldn't really launch the ragdolls away as I was under the impression they were just spraying acid out in every direction, not detonating a bomb. The old way seemed more representative in this fashion; the unit just thrashed about while melting to death when hit by a baneling.
But that's exactly why everything would go flying no gravity=nothing to really hold you on the ground and if we're talking about open space its a vacuum so no air/atmospheric resistance so that's even a bigger reason for things to fly in all directions.
"It sat square in their path, fully deployed, its side pontoons firmly set in the asphalt. The shock cannon sent blistering rounds overhead, and its twin 80’s raked the debris of the fountain." Quote from Tarsonis mission. Man, get your facts checked.
I understand that serious people will turn this off or that it is too much of a screen clutter thing. I think this is aimed at making single player damn cool but also making it fun to watch. Trying to get a little more esport excitement and get people really into the game when stuff is flying everywhere.
The problem is, that there are a lot of UI issues in starcraft that need to be addressed, and instead of them spending time building a multiplayer mode that doesn't depend on battle.net, or adding things like different MMRs for different races and other things that the community has been asking for, they're doing things like this that really nobody cares about. That's where most of the rage is probably coming from.
Actually, this was probably programmer work, not art team. That's a wonderful thing called ragdoll physics, the art team probably only needed to make a 'charred corpse' texture.
Hey HD... these AREN'T animations. This is a glorious thing called ragdoll physics. It's been in video games since 1998 (Jurassic Park: Trespasser) and it's been in RTSs since 2005. Company of Heroes (2006) not only had ragdolls that could lose limbs, but also entire vehicle wrecks/debris that could be used as cover for infantry. Blizzard's a great company, but it's nice to see 20 year old technology finally being used.
i suppose the ragdolls and gibs are all client side, so the simulation is rendered and calculated by the client computer than the server, which would prevent the server from lagging and avoid having to send extra bits of data over the internet. as well, the client can also turn it off to avoid lag if the client computer is slow. just my speculation of course.
I feel like the flying bodies looks way cooler though, which to me, is way more important than how realistic it is. I mean, it's a sci-fi game. How are you people gonna argue about realism?
Browder: terrans MUST play mech in hots, i want that D. Kim: we failed balance mech, its still unusable shit Browder: lets try make cool attack animations, may be they will play mech that way
might be a little overkill but it definitely will look satisfying while your playing which is one of the things.sc2 needs. it needs to.give more satisfaction after winning a huge baggle and this indeed gives that.illusion.
LET ME BE CLEAR... I was only telling Mennion3 that just be cause a different team works on it doesn't mean the they don't draw from the same budget. If energy/matter is at one place in spacetime it cannot be at another. When one thing goes up the other goes down. I should not be having to explain this to an adult.
The ones with the bodies flying everywhere is a bit over the top. The only ones I think are fine are the colossi collapsing onto the ground and the air units exploding (which I don't even think they changed those ones).
I like how people are complaining that it's too flashy when you're seeing 60 roaches get bombarded by 30 tanks at once. If you're actually seeing that many special effects, the game is probably a farce anyway.
Imagine this: If they saved the time spent on creating these new Random Death Animations... and spent that time balancing the game further... Mind Blown.
