Wow I really enjoyed your content! This also makes me upset about how RU-vid works. You’ve clearly been doing this for a while yet you’ve never come to my recommended feed. I was just looking for another perspective on this laptop, watched your review from beginning to end and I like everything that you’re doing here. 🤛
This is possibly the most useful and time effective review of the dell xps 15 I have watched on youtube and I have watched quite a few of them. The webcam footage was a great addition. Loved it. Great job Andrew.
I just discovered the Dell Alienware M15 R2, which has better cooling, in a similar form factor. Maybe this is for me. Looks gimpier though and has unnecessary gimmicks such as eye tracking. EDIT: nope! This has soldered on RAM. Complete no-go.
I’m about to spend about $900 on a core i7 Dell XPS 15. I’m super exited because based on your review and others it sounds perfect for the photo and video editing that I’ll be doing. I can’t wait to experience it so I can see if it’s really all that you guys say. Great review 👍🏾
just like you i called dell and talked them down a little on the price for the I9 64gb one. cant wait to get it in 7-14 days. how is yours running so far?
Is everyone starting to push the 4k screen now? I don't want to pay the price and lose battery life because of it. I was seriously considering ditching my backup Chromebook, since it's a smaller screen and the keyboard is now giving me a few issues. Thinking about trying to move back into Windows, but I don't have the kind of money to spend on the high powered low battery life devices that are appearing everywhere now. You have another video posted on a Dell 15" that I have likely already seen, but I'm going to watch again, just to compare. If I hear 4k though, I'll be gone. Side note, your review at the end of each video is very helpful. Please continue to do so. Okay, wait! Just went to the vid and it was May 2018 on the XPS 15" 2in1. I'll browse for something more recent! :)
@@Raison_d-etre Wrong and wrong. OLED laptop screens in the last 2-3 years (or more) aren't really susceptible to burn in in the way even current gen OLED TVs are. Just don't torture test it for months on end like Rtings would and you'll be fine. 4k is overrated for sure. But you'd have to be blind to say it doesn't make a difference in stair-stepping on text. Overall clarity in web browsing, the ability to view 4k RU-vid, Netflix, and in general, higher fidelity content in the way it was intended (HDR + 4k), is definitely a boon. Plus, the main benefit of the OLED model is the OLED, and it doesn't yet come in a high refresh variety in laptops (which would likely still be 4k even when it eventually arrives--their are LEDs that currently offer this and they're amazing in their own right). I picked this up for a song ($1,040 at local Microcenter) in near-new condition. Only detractor was a slight scuff on the lid but nothing a laptop skin couldn't immediately fix (dbrand Swarm which is a matrix-y honeycomb black patter which REALLY accentuates the sex appeal of this laptop and really makes you wonder why Dell never offered it with a stylish black lid). If you can pick one up second hand for a similar price, I highly recommend it. Battery on the one I bought was at 98% of original capacity which is great. Brightness on the display seemed stock as well so I can almost guarantee it wasn't a refurb with extensive use that had it's battery replaced. I have an OLED tv from 2016 to compare to with slightly better but similar brightness, so I know what 500ish NITS looks like, and this is it. Good review. I only wish the refreshed model with better speakers and a slightly more modern look was available with the OLED. Would be stupid expensive, sure. But these XPS are near tailor made to be picked up at a great discount at year later.
Excellent review. The Dell XPS 15 is one of my top contenders right now. I look forward to your take on the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme 2nd gen as well. I've heard their OLED has a touchscreen, and I'm a writer, so I'm in love with the Thinkpad keyboards. I'd also like your take on the 4th gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. I'm curious how the aluminum build impacts the thermals. I've always loved that carbon fiber doesn't get as hot/cold to the touch, making Thinkpads nicer to keep on your lap and type on. You said the 3rd gen X1 Yoga would be a great choice for content creators, but it doesn't have dedicated graphics. Could you do comparison for render times with similarly spec'd laptops, which have dedicated graphics? I'm also waiting for the new Macbook keyboards, which are supposed to launch soon. Personally, I'm not a fan of the butterfly keyboards, but I've heard their switching to a scissor mechanism again (hopefully with deeper key travel). If they do, I would give up having a touchscreen to be able to utilize AirDrop and Final Cut Pro. Decisions, decisions... LOL.
Issues I have with the previous generation: Thermal throttling Electric component noises (internal components and even the adapter) CPU fan running if USB-c is plugged in Scratches on the carbon pad Auto-dimming issue
Be aware that there are no color settings available for the Nvidia GTX1650. Dell premier color is NOT available for the Oled version. The intel driver does its work but totally no gamut controls available
Short question: Dell XPS 7590 (i7, 16gb, 4K) or Lenovo x1 Carbon 6th gen (i7, 16gb, 2K)? They’re at the same price where I live and can’t decide. I’ll use it mainly for coding and light gaming. (Can’t make up my mind because x1 has very good keyboard and is lightweight, but the dell has a better screen and a dedicated gpu).
very decent review, being a bit picky, you did not fully address how much of an improvement is this for someone coming from the 9570, specially from someone that follows your advice of going for the i7, which I suspect is a very trivial improvement over the 8th gen i7. doing some of your benchmarks and video editing benchmarks (Puget's Premiere benchmark would have been nice) across those devices would have helped.
nEOs1255 sorry but you are wrong. I think you are thinking in the 9560 with the 7700HQ. Both 8th and 9th gen i7 are six cores. Check the specs of the i7-8750h which is the one in the 9570. Only the i9 9th gen is eight core.
I have this unit on order with main use photoshop etc for still photography. Should I be concerned about the i9? Should I reduce the voltage? Replace with i7? Or fine as is for processing still photos?
Would you say that the oled display is a safe option in terms of screen burning. I use a lot of Microsoft office, internet browsing (5/6 hours a day), they all have static image on some portion.
Good review but I hate the fact that ethernet sockets are disappearing these days. Can't get that ethernet max speed out of WiFi. Why has no one designed a smaller version, that this thin laptop could use ?
I’m getting the 4K touch one with the i7 9th gen with 32gb of ram and 1tb ssd would you still recommend it for video editing I been hearing the i9 one has been having issues so how many performances would I be losing if I get the i7 one how long will it take to render ?
it kind of looks like the bezels are marginally thicker now. reminds me of the old titanium powerbook now, which thinking back was way ahead of its time for its form factor design.
currently have the i7-9thgen. performs well but actually wanna upgrade to the core i9. only because it will be better at 4k playback for video editing!
8 hours and 14 min at 150 nits . That would likely drop to 4 hours at 300 nits brightness. I’ll wait till Dell sorts out this issue as you need all the brightness you can get if you work outdoors which I do.
hello do you recommend this laptop - xps 15 7590 , i9, 32 gb ram for architecture young professional? i will need to use programs like autocad, revit, sketchup, 3ds max and all of the graphic designers software. o you think this laptop will handle it?
Do you think the 2019 upgrades are worth about the higher price of about $400-500 over the 2018, same i7 and 4K configuration for someone who do not need that much power?
on the color coverage and whether this is good for creation, I have a question. almost nobody has OLED panels, hence, I figure, whatever I see in the screen is almost guaranteed to be different than what my average content-consumers will see. how does that affect suitability for content creation? wouldnt I have a panel that ensures what I see is what my users will see? otherwise, how can I one do proper color grading?
I am getting better Geekbench with my MacBook Pro 2.3ghz, which is the 9880h.. which tells you just how bad the thermals on the XPS are. I say just get the 2.3ghz 8 core MacBook Pro with Vega 20, and have the choice of bootcamp windows or osx at your leisure. And no hell crapware installed, especially NO mcafee!
Is the Dell XPS 15 7590’s RAM, upgradable? Or is it integrated? I know the 9570 model’s RAM is upgradeable so this should be as well, right? I was thinking of buying the 16GB version and adding in my own RAM of 64GB.
just spent 3300 on a i9 64gb dell xps 15....i did not buy this machine for gaming but im curious to what you alls opinion is concerning dell xps 15 vs xbox one x/ xbox one series x
When i just looked it up it says u can get a OLED touch screen. So how come you couldn't? Unless im reading it wrong. But i talked to dell and they said that you can get a OLED touch screen. I just talked to them 2day
The PC has a great display. The camera picture seemed fair and did not do proper justice for the great display of this unit. Also for the price one is paying for this PC it should have a ten key touchpad keyboard.
Do you know if the base model is also upgradeable? This one at 1000$. Other than that... Yea that's a beast that deserves those dollars. Fucking finally sane machine.
Good review. I have a Dell XPS 13 and somehow managed to strip one of those small screws - despite being careful - holding in the battery so I can't change it now. Frustrating.
Not sure the i9 is worth it given the thermals. What these high end machines really need is a processor built on a 7nm process. This will cut power and increase the battery life making the higher end displays power requirements less of an issue. In addition, PCIe4 in such laptops would really make the SSDs scream. I am holding off until Intel gets its act together with a 7 nm process or, perhaps, AMD busts into the market with a laptop presence that’s sustainable.
With all due respect, I am not impressed with this "review". All I'm hearing is beautiful, gorgeous, excellent construction etc yet with my own eyes, in this very video, I'm seeing the aluminium on the sides roughly finished with scratches almost like sandpaper was used. Many have complained the xps edges cut them, is this version safe?. At minute 04:20 the panel gap is so huge I can see the cutouts in the aluminium. Didn't you see this Andrew? F-up after F-up in each generation, I thought at this point ANY review of this product will go in with a sceptical eye and make sure "this was fixed...", "that was sorted...", "yep, no more of that...". This is the MacBook of the windows world and Dell has been fortunate to receive massive marketing hype from RU-vidrs. Yet we never hold them accountable to put out a product that truly merits the title of king. For now, it's the king because it happens to be the only one available for the seat. That's NOT good enough.
I honesty think it is the best looking laptop, the design is so simple and clean, form factor is amazing, and my favourite is the carbon fiber the feel and look is like no other
No one uses laptop cameras, if you need a camera you get an external one usually. If they improved the camera they would charge more money for the laptop. Personally I think it's better like this.
