Hi..... Sow the Land, Jason and Lorraine nice to see you both, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🎥👍👍👍
I returned those type of waterer. Chickens are supposed to hit the yellow thing to make the water come out. Mine never figured it out. There is another kind of cups on the market that auto fill. I have loved them!
The smoked chicken looks so good. Lorraine, you really are creative to make the pumpkin dish without spices and things Jason can't eat. You are so supportive of his meat diet. I am sure it is not always easy. Jason you are so creative. Your wood work is beautiful and your chicken waterers are great. Piggies...yahooo. I will pray they do a little escape again. LoL. 💖
Glad to hear & see that Lorraine's bite has healed! Tough lady!!! Love to watch you guys. The garden is going in! YAY!!! Great job all working together, love it!
You might want to put lids on to stop mosquitos from laying their eggs in the buckets. Everything looks good. Soon you'll have lots of chicken in your freezer.
We have tried the drinker cups like that with our cornish, but they never seemed to get the hang of it! We always worried they weren't getting enough water as the cups were often dry and the level in the bucket didn't seem to drop fast enough. It's a real shame, as filling and lugging around five gallon bell waterers is such a chore! Glad to see they are working for you.
I don't have much luck with those cup waterers, the chickens don't hit the yellow thing to make the water come in and don't keep it close to the ground because when they scratch they fill the cups up with dirt. Good luck
Hopefully you will have better success with those style cups than we did. Our chickens wouldn’t depress the yellow plunger enough. We now buy cups from rentacoop which are gravity weight fed and they work way better. If you have issues with those cups, I highly suggest you try the rentacoop style cups. That two bucket system is pretty cool though.
can you discuss in a video how you manage keeping steaks for so long, or what your process is for buying enough meat for the week without any of it going bad before you get to it (prior to filling your freezer with the half cow)?
They get the hang of those water cups and the bucket is soooo much better than the smaller chicken waterer. We did this bucket waterer, too. We only have 8 backyard chickens and in the summer I was having to fill the water 2 times a day. The big bucket helps soooo much with that, I don't need to rush go get out and fill their water in the morning.
I used the same waterer for a short while. My egg layers just could never get the hang of hitting the lever to fill the cups. Made me nervous so I just ditched it. I love the concept and tons of ppl have great success with them. My chickens are just too simple minded or lazy haha
I use the same type of cups for my quail. I’m sure you know by now the birds push the toggle and drink what comes out. Cups don’t stay full. Also try not to over tighten. The tiny clear washer will squish out of place. I actually added gaskets made from a black fuel line hose is was a little more durable. Clean of course.
Yum! Smoked chicken! Lorraine listening to Christmas music in June. Very interesting. Maybe she is wishing it was snowing? Is she too hot? You are definately the best chicken waterer set-up homesteader I watch. Great chicken waterer skills! Wow Lorraine. I didn't know a spider bite could cause such problems. I'm so glad you are okay now. Lovely spinach! Too bad you can't eat any spinach Jason. Nice pumpkin custard. Nice set-up with one bucket feeding into the other. My chickens never got smart enough to push on the cup nozzel to fill it. Thanks for the video!
Those waterers are good I love mine, however; if you bump the cup or you chickens mess with it a lot the will start to slow leak. Just reach in and make sure the fitting is tight each time you refill it.
I have allergic reactions too and a epi-pen. But I keep liquid Benadryl on hand first and tabs all help in an emergency. I always keep you guys in prayer. Marie from Eden,NC
Idea: Because you are eating copious amounts of meat, (Go carnivore!) Could you smoke/cook/grill a few days' or meals' worth at a time? You might really benefit from canning meat....
The thread on those nipples and cups is 1/8” NPT or 1/8 pipe thread. Drill size is 21/64”. You can get the drill and thread tap on Amazon for 12 bucks and make perfect holes every time. Your cups looks bit larger might be 1/4” NPT if they are bigger than the nipples.
My quail tractor has the "no peck" version of the water cups - the float valve maintains a constant water level. They work well even for the brooder quail. I set the 5-gal bucket straight on the ground (less weight on the tractor and I can move it within the pen for optimal shade etc.). But, I have found, for many reasons, that the water absolutely must be covered.

You will still be better off moving the bucket up as the chicks grow. This keeps the water cleaner because chickens will backwash stuff into the water from their gizzards.
Check out Jason's face on the 1.5 Acre Homestead Tour video from July, 2018 and compare it to his face in this video (especially near his eyes). That's what eating copious amounts of meat and eggs does. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iFrYhkkkwHI.html

Never smoked chicken before, got copd now , so won't be smokin anything ,, lol you lookin better my man ...stay away from that wild weed in them hills,,lol Watchin y'all from Mayberry NC👍👍👍
Might want to put a lid on the inside bucket, especially if they aren't getting the waterers to work. We had more than one chicken end up dying in the bucket. 😒
My ducks did well with those cups, but my chickens did not, be interested to see if yours are able to get the cups to fill, I do best with nipple waterers.
We just started our Bantums on those cups. Got the drinking down but they aren't hitting the yellow bit to release water. So we go in numerous times a day to hit the yellow.
I have a question for you about this waterer. If you put more water in the outside bucket, will it cause the inside bucket to overflow? I'm thinking that it will because of gravity. But what would happen if you had the inside bucket about 3/4 or so full and put a lid on it? Would there be enough air pressure in the bucket to stop the higher bucket from pushing water in until some of the water in the lower bucket was used? I'm not sure what would happen. Is there any possibility of you trying that just to let people know? If that works, it would give the chickens a bigger supply of water. It's just something I'm curious about. I have about 40 or 50 of those drinker cups, but not a whole lot of buckets. It seems every time I need one, I have to go to Menards. lol Interesting video. Have a good day.
I made your chicken nipple waterer for my laying hens. Once they figured it out, I found that they don’t manage to get all the water in their beaks. So they end up pecking the ground to get the water that falls and it’s quite wet under the bucket. Any idea if this is normal?
Im trying to use the nipples from the sides I think it will work ok but i haven't gotten back to it yet Im looking for good ways to hang bottles for chicks
