Would be cool if you can set a routine so that when you access the camera remotely, it would also kick off a separate routine where it turns on the (smart) light so that you can actually see stuff. This is definitely doable. Just has to be implemented.
My little girl liked to play with the buttons on my old Echo Show 5. It’s one of the reasons I sold it. I just ordered an Echo Show 8 on sale for Prime Day. You’ve given me a great idea! I’m going to set up a Routine to reset the volume settings when a person is detected. MUCH easier than setting that for many times a day.
I bought two Echo Show 5s (2nd gen) just to monitor my Ring doorbell. I was surprised at how good the sound was when listening to music! Then I found I could pair them in stereo mode. I LOVED IT! So, I bought another one just to have stereo Echos in my office. Putting the Shows directly on my wooden office desk really enhances the sound too, reverberating the bass. I already have Edifier desktop speakers but having two sources for sound is really awesome. I'll play games on my PC and listen to music on my Echos and it's much easier to manage than having the music come through my speakers. Plus Amazon music is fantastic. I just wish Alexa was better with podcasts.

Awesome review! I recently bought 2 of the 5's and a kid's 5, so my grandsons can call me. It was recent enough that I can and am tempted to return one for an 8 at Black Friday pricing. It is better, but I think I'm fine with the 5. I've been spenting enough recently already 😳💯😁 Thanks for helping me think it through ❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed the review. Great job! As I have a Portal TV in my living room for video calls to my family and friends, I never got my Echo Shows for the camera. I got them to see the feed of my video door bell and have control panels in every room in case I don't want/need to use my voice to control smart devices. The fact they added the "Home Monitoring" and that I could install it after applying an update was a nice bonus. I now use it to moniter my elderly cat when I'm away, which is funny since, if I call him via the camera, he starts meowing, thinking I'm actually home. Hahaha. So I don't think I'll upgrade if it's only for the camera. I'm expecting they'll add the "People Presence" function soon enough since the new Echo Shows 5 and 8 both have it and don't have the same camera. Plus I know my current Echo Shows 8 already detect, per say, my presence. Small bummer it seems be range and luminance limited, but if it's a free packed-in feature, one can hardly complain.
I have a show 5, but not sure if i have a bad one or what. I feel i have yell to get it to trigger. And i can be sitting right next to it. its a bit annoying.
Hi Craig. How did u get the Show 8 to display that large clock size? Or is that the regular size? Other videos n posts say the clock size is tiny on the 8. On ur video it’s the same size as show 5. Thanks.

Hi Craig. I also experience the Hit & Miss person detection response on the Echo Show 10 gen 3 and Echo Show 8 gen 2. Did you find a document that explains the seven-minute cooldown or was that from testing?
Hello Frank, sorry I’m just responding to this comment. I was actually hearing it from Brian at automated your life. We were actually talking about it on a conversation that we had. I didn’t stop watching it, but was seeing similar times. I glanced at a clock leave the room come back in before hand, it wouldn’t come on and then around the seven minute mark it would.
i have a "special" Echo show 10 i have my eyes on the kids echo show 5 because of the 1yr Amazon Kids+ included and 2yrs warranty if i remember correctly however i am not sure if the Amazon kids+ is only available in US or even for the rest of the world. great content Craig. and also i just tried the person detection routine shame it's not available in the Show 10 it would be great if it's there
I used my eufy cameras, with I/R, to sense motion and then wrote a routine to turn on lights when they sensed motion. Obviously that's not gonna work in places like the bathroom or bedroom, but it might in more common parts of a house.

I caught you slipped on alexa once i think in the video. Seemed like it anyways. lol. You still do a much better job of removing that word then most. Just set my device to be activated by ziggy. I did just notice midnight was 0. But it wasnt on military time. So odd. I prob wont get the new gen one.
There are many videos on RU-vid explaining how to turn off the adds...had you searched yourself. Go to settings----home and clock----home content---disable all toggle switches. Done. You are welcome.
arrrghhh you did an audio test comparison even though they were the same but you didnt show us how the different cameras looked!! :( im torn between these two versions but cant find an actual camera comparison video anywhere!!!
You can have as many as you want really. You just need to make sure they aren't in the same room. A tip, if rooms are close to each other I'd suggest using different wake words for the different devices. I hope that info helps.

I have an issue with Bluetooth connection with a mac studio I bought Echo 4th gen But issues with garbled sound but Show 5 gen 1 works fabulously. But Echo gen 4 if you go to Alexa for questions then back to Bluetooth sounds its garbled? Spoke with Amazon they want me to restart me computer everytime it happens? NOT. waiting to return is anyone else have this issue. Again Show 5 works perfectly.
Do you recommend the echo show 8 for a bedside table or do you think its too big? I'm trying to decide between it and the echo 5. Does the echo 8 dim down at night so you can sleep but still see the clock not too bright? Which would you recommend for your bedroom clock ?
I'm just mad that I jumped on the echo spot. If I waited I could have gotten a echo show 8 for $10.00 more or saved money and got an echo show 5 for less than the spot sold for.
The people detection desperately needs an IR emitter to allow it to see at night. These are dirt cheap and surely will be added to a future generation.
@@misottovoce That's motion detection. I'm talking about image viewing via the camera, like car backup cameras having infrared emmitters to allow them to see at night.
