You can't go wrong with with Proraso and Jagger. That's a great gear line-up, especially if you are just starting out. I would recommend you add a block of alum and a jar of Proraso Pre/Post cream. My favorite TOBS is the sandalwood cream.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street smells the best for me and the brand makes great shaving cream. I tried the more expensive ones like G.EO. Trumpers and I still prefer TOBS, great scents, lather really well, and last a long time.
i really enjoy the taylor of old bond st rose and jermyn st scents. the rose i thought would be really girly, but it smells really nice. the jermyn st is excellent as well. very mild, gentle scent, most people i know really enjoy the jermyn.
richter customs build a lather with with dawn dish soap let it sit for a little then rinse it , after that build a lather with your shaving soap also let that sit and the smell will be gone
It must be pot luck regarding the smell. I have the same brush in black, and I couldn't detect any smell when it was new. I'm just finishing off a pot of Taylors Sandalwood, and about to start Jermyn Street. Both have a nice smell, though I prefer the Sandalwood smell. I'm trying the Jermyn Street, because my neck's sensitive.
My wife just ordered me one of these brushes from Amazon.ca and I can't wait to try it. I originally have been using a cheap and inexpensive no name boar brush which even when broken in it was not great. Thanks for the review.
Taylors Sandalwood, it's such a beautiful smell. Ive had 2 now and when I order I can't bring myself to try anything else as I like it so much. I may be tempted by the lemon and lime.
Lee Howarth i Heard many good opinions about taylors sandalwood and when I bought it I was so disappointed by the scent. Its a strong syntetic scent. I think proraso red has a better scent, Its syntetic too, but different and also more subtle. I will give a second chance to taylors creams and I will try a different one.
jcreswick Thanks for the comment , I used dawn soap to break it in and get the skunk smell out , and I have also noticed that the brush stays alot softer when using a soap puck vs shaving cream. Thanks for watching
Hey man could you do a shave vid? Like you're routine or how you prepare you're shave soap and how you lather? Step by step kind of vid. Im sure you seen them on youtube. If not thats cool. You just give good advise and I am interested in this style of shaving! Thanks!
You like Derby blades? I find them ok but don't get many shaves out of them. You gotta try this Spanish fig and nutmeg soap! I forget who makes it but it's the only company that does. As far as blades lees has a special on Gillette silver blues, 50 blades for 20 bucks. Folks including myself get 6 to 8 shaves a blade! Also you might wanna give Treet Super platinum a try too. 5.50 for 10 and less in bulk. They are sharper, smoother, and a bit longer lasting than Derbys.
Eds UKGamerz they are the same thing butt in different forms and the tube may be easier to lather. also I saw online the tub can go threw airport security vs the tube
I have Taylor of Old Bond Street Coconut and Rose, those two are the best smelling ones IMHO, not too strong… for a classier scented one go for Mr Taylor's or Jermyn Street collection I personally use Jermyn… Also you may wanna check out Truefitt & Hill if you wanna spoil yourself a little as every man should...
