Some of the info during the Blazer section of the vid was a bit outdated. 1. Theres no more LT1, the LT2 has just been renamed to LT on the website. The price was also lowered a couple grand but thats a recent development 2. For the tax credit, final assembly is still important for a vehicle to qualify. It needs to be manufactured in North America to even be considered for the credit. Then if the vehicle gets either half of the credit comes down to the battery and mineral requirements. 3.Chevy has promised even if you get a vehicle that was built before they updated their supply chain to qualify for the tax credit, Chevy themselves will give you that 7500 off the price 4. The HP number for the AWD system is a bit misleading, the 500+ is only on the SS (which isn't available yet). You can't just get 500 hp on the AWD RS.

Just to add to this, 2LT AWD, RS AWD, and RS RWD are the only trims available at the moment. I don't believe there is a real ETA on any FWD variants although they still claim it is coming in the future. 2LT and RS AWD use the 85kWh pack and the RS RWD uses the 102 kWh pack. They recently announced the MSRP adjustment on all trims and they are given buyers $7,500 bonus cash on Blazer's which don't quality for the tax credit but all of them in production moving forward should quality like you mentioned. Final assembly does matter to get the tax credit.

When "most" Equinox EV are going to be well north of $40k (outside of 1LT which aren't being built at start of production) I don't know that the price differential between Equinox EV and Blazer EV is all that much to make a substantial difference. Blazer EV is nearly at a price parity with it's ICE counterpart (It's less expensive if you factor in the $7,500) The Equinox EV will still cost upwards of $10k more than it's ICE counterpart which is brought down substantially by the $7,500 but still will be more expensive in most configurations.

A front right charge port location makes so much sense. Front right doesn’t interfere with trailers or cargo off the back, works seamlessly with Tesla’s supercharger network, and allows for curbside charging. Seems like there’s a good argument for making front right the standard location for most EV’s going forward.

9:19 I'd suggest not looking at the charge port location in isolation. Keep in mind that GM is helping to fund the build out of 500 EVgo eXtend charging sites at Pilot-Flying J locations, and they are emphasizing full, pull-through charging stalls. When not towing, the driver side rear charge port not the best, but it is workable (and it matches well with the Tesla Superchargers). However, when towing, if full, pull-through stalls are available, the driver side rear charging port is actually the ideal location. My guess is, the expectation from GM is that Chevy Silverado EV owners who are towing large trailers long distances will prioritize Pilot-Flying J locations, at which point, driver side rear really is the best location for a charge port.

Kyle asked why buy a Blazer over a Model Y. I think he gave the answer earlier. It’s the switches and layout. Anyone can get in and understand how to drive it. The same can’t be said of Tesla and their “no switches” mentality. This is really important in the rental market. You don’t have to really learn very much to drive your rental car if all the switches and levers are in the same places as an ICE car.
@Tokamak3.1415
@Tokamak3.1415 5 месяцев назад
Coming from a Honda or Toyota product I would still spend 5 min before I'm driving off the rental lot because some of the controls are placed in weird locations or counterintuitive. Maybe not as long as a Tesla introduction, but the Tesla can have many of the functions controlled with voice. It's probably great for people not used to using capacitive touch all day long but for everybody else it's not that big of an inconvenience. I'd be more bothered by a tiny, poorly lit backup camera especially when the rear view window is a small slit barely big enough to pass a slip of paper through.

The rental market has to be separated from the standard sale market. It’s astounding to me rental car companies try and rent BEV vehicles. I totally agree that BEVs that look and feel like normal ICE cars help but the simple task of charging confound not only new consumers but rental car employees too! The rental car market wants EV but the education just isn’t there yet, regardless of manufacturer.

I have a Bolt and just bought a Mustang Mach E this week. First, they're different vehicles- Blazer being an SUV and Mach E being a cross over, and they sit at different price ranges. But if we're forced to compare, Mach E is better than the Blazer on most metrics- it gets roughly the same EPA range (testing shows that Mach E can get anywhere between 20-40 miles better than EPA), has more cargo space *without* the frunk (Blazer has no frunk) in spite of the Blazer being a size bigger vehicle. When you compare battery capacities, Mach E does more range with less. The only area where the Blazer does better is L3 charging speeds, but I would argue that's not as big an issue for most drivers as it's made out to be. It might be a dealbreaker for cross country trips, but less of an issue for those who stick to regional trips. While the Blazer's 190KW/h looks good on paper, it doesn't look quite as good when you consider that you're charging more battery pack. I get that it will charge to 100% faster than the Mach E, but it's not as impressive when the larger battery pack is taken into account for similar range figures. And SuperCruise is generally rated lower than BlueCruise. If Mach E is first generation, Blazer looks to me to be barely a 1.5 Gen EV, and there are definitely some big caveats to that.

23:44 The short answer is: 48 V is a gimmick for EVs. The long answer: 12 V PbA batteries are better at managing the extreme temperatures that a car will encounter than Li batteries, and there's far better aftermarket support for small 12 V components. Even within 48 V systems, it's still necessary to include low-power DC-DC converters to step 48 V down to 12 V for some components, which offsets most of the cost savings from running smaller wiring. Also, in EVs specifically, 48 V is even less necessary because high-power-draw components can be run directly off the HV battery through the HV junction box. Even my 25 year old EV runs its highest power draw components directly off the 300 V rather than needing to resort to a higher voltage LV battery. Finally, even though 48 V is "less than lethal," under the right conditions, it poses a much greater safety risk than 12 V.

Range Range Range Range ...(Kyle look at your face when you first drove the Silverado and realizing how far you can go..you get it) Range for the money that's what it all comes down . Running Uber almost 4 years between Bolt and ID 4 last (11 months) every single person that starts asking about EVs is HOW FAR CAN IT GO . They loved the Bolt ,they Love the ID 4 and they would love to buy any EV but they want Range. (I have nearly 17,000 rides now) . Range and how long to charge. So, when you guys are ready to take a break from the Trucks, lets get 70 MPH the going again for crossover/suvs . Probably start with Francies VinFast 8 , the new ID 4 with the new motors , Blazer, Equinox , Volvo , Model y .. Considering nearly every EV from nearly every manufacture will be able to use Tesla Superchargers with NACS /adapter or magicDock the Teslas no longer has that advantage. With all the new EVs coming each year the Charging infrastructer will never catch up fast enough. so the next best thing is bigger batteries..just drive right on by the chargers.. anxiety (are they down ? will I get max speeds , will they e full ?etc..) that's all in the rearview mirror with larger batteries. also as a heads up .. NIO is first with Solid state batteries (well semi solid state) They announced the new Semi Solid state battery production has started (Welion makes them) 150kW in a sedan ! 1100 km/ something like 600 miles EPA . so take that Blazer and Equinox for example with rated 316 mile range ..throw one of these 150kW semistate batteries in (assuming they are going to be much lighter as well) and we're looking at 450 - 500 EPA miles. . Equinox for now .. if range is as advertises and price after $7,500 below 40k .. agree with others thats going to be monster production vehicle for the mases and a mony maker for GM. The Bolt is dead..please just leave it GM // If you MUST bring it back it absoloutly has to charge 3-4 times as fast at min 125kW. They are just clogging up chargers .

The Silverado might appeal to people who need a really big truck that can tow big loads. But not everybody wants or needs that. Plus, It’s a lot of money, and I suspect that Chevrolet’s margin on the Silverado EV is very tight, so won’t be discounted. I expect that the single motor Cybertruck will cost around $50,000 by next year.

the Silverado won't be sold anywhere outside NA since it's far too heavy even for the new EU reg with weight limits. whereas lighter trucks like the f150 and pyramid could be allowed weight wise.

Less pricey versions of Equinox are coming later (probably couple months). Bolt is supposed to be an updated version of the current one, so FWD only, and that's OK. Not having to design AWD in, allows it to be lighter.

I feel like GM is hoping that fleet versions of this truck to take them into the black (and honestly I feel like they're got a shot if they market it to the 3/4 & 1-Ton customers that are the "low miles, high idle" group that's been getting killed with the costs of running a modern diesel). The torque on the EVs will allow 10,000+ pound towing all day long. I say the 3/4 and 1-Ton groups because : The weight class (i.e. over 7000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, or GVWR) in most states takes your registration past the 1/2 Ton pickup truck fee schedules. IIRC, the Silverado EV 4WT's 8500 pound curb weight with a 1400 pound payload puts it just shy of a 10,000 pound GVWR, which is most states in the CONUS still puts you into commercial vehicle weight classes. The people dropping 90-95k on the RST aren't going to care about the stuff I just mentioned and will just pay whatever their state charges them, but I would bet $$$ a fleet manager is going to look at stuff like this for the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of a gaggle of Silverado EVs versus a similar bunch of Silverado 2500/3500 with a 6.6L Duramax if their requirements are less than 150 miles a day on each vehicle and a depot all said vehicles can charge at overnight. Tesla of course has no answer to this with the Cyber Truck (and I don't think that was ever the intention), and Ford treated their Fleet customers as secondary targets for the F-150 Lightning (this is of course was one to be able to say they were first to the market). With fleet buying, personal preference and feeling usually go right out the window. It usually comes down to TCO and regulatory compliance. The EVs obviously get a nod on the compliance side in most states. We will see if Ford or GM (or perhaps neither) were right about their primary target market choices in due time. Personally, I hope a couple of years from now I can pick up a 4WT Silverado EV with zero options outside of cloth seats. The battery capacity with the compatibility of the Tesla Supercharger network for "insurance" on a road trip now makes owning an EV without an ICE backup a realistic option for a lot of folks.

$100,000 for a pickup truck, with destination, tax, tag and tip (if you want one early). Hard to make sense of that, when my last pickup truck in 1987 was a Ford XLT Lariat long-bed for $11,000. Glad I don't need a new truck. My new Model Y Dual Motor makes more sense for me, at under $40k, but even that is uncomfortably expensive when you are retired.

32:06 - just a point of clarification, GM/Chevy technically did show EVERYTHING last year at NYAS 2023 (still have the pics on my phone): ie. the Bolt, Bolt EUV, Silverado EV RST, Blazer EV, and the Equinox EV. however the Blazer was the big money red SS trim and the Equinox was that big money blue 3LT trim that had both been making the rounds at various Auto Shows across 'Murica for the last 2 years, also they were both roped off not allowing show goers direct access, whereas they switched to allowing direct access for 2024. take time to examine this History, and you can see that GM have been "slow walking" and stretching things out as they simultaneously "debugged" and "ramped" Ultium production in the background. unfortunately what they conspicuously OVERLOOKED in all this was the "debugging" of the Blazer's UI and software (facepalm)... something else to remember about last year's NYAS was that Hyundai group was going H.A.A.M. with the NA debut of the Kia EV9, also the first East Coast showing of the Ioniq 6, both the updated Kona and the updated Niro EV's (and their gas Hybrid versions) were displayed, the Kia EV6 GT was shown winning the 2023 award for World Performance Car, and the reveal of the first orange Genesis GV80 fastback SUV (before returning a year later and going "FULL LIQUID HOT MAGMA" in 2024)... yeah so at NYAS 2023 Hyundai was basically "sucking all the air out of the room" so all the other OEM's were pressured to represent. 😎 to further illustrate this point, Stellantis showed off both the electric Ram, and the Banshee Daytona, in addition to Alfa Romeo's US offerings (Giulia and Stelvio), and Toyota had big displays for both the new "swoopy" 5th Gen Prius, and the new GR Corolla. oh and Autel had that big "CES level" booth for their charger tech, iirc Tommy Molo' did an interview with the CEO or whoever that was.

Those do seem interesting. I am curious to see if the will come to my Europe. They seem like a good price for their battery size (except for the Silverado EV since that is considered to commercial grade truck, over 3.5 tonnes, you will need a CDL and are limited to 56mph. As for the Volvo EX30. Interior quality (materials) is really low, a bit like tesla. This coming from someone who drove a Volvo XC60 recharge till recently and now has a BMW i5.

I just traded my Bolt Premier for a Blazer EV RS AWD! I fixed the Bolt tire spin and lack of traction with Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires, they dont want to spin and give a massive boost in handling! Sorry to lose them and hate to see the cost of them in 21”?? Love the Blazer handling and ride and acceleration that may not get me tickets! I used my IPhone to load the Google native wayz and get all my destinations downloaded! My kind of ride as the Bolt was small and rough riding! I won’t let you know how low the price was and how much i got for the Bolt! Don’t want them getting buried in orders! My Ram has a twisty shifter which I hate as does the Mach-e so Mach-e was not even a consideration, I love the shifter on the Blazer not as much as the slap shifter in the Bolt but you can’t have everything! Also the dealer took off the $7.5K immediately!
