I pray that you have a full recovery, same thing happened to me, I'm 44 and mine started about 7yrs ago out the blue, I broke my nose, my jaw.. but the worst part is I lost my son cause it was only me and him living and I was having a seizure one night and he said I was choking him and of course the government stepped in and took him, which of course I prefer that than having him home and hurting him.....but it's hard and I miss my baby alot

Thank you for all you do and the research all of you are involved in. If you haven’t discussed it or found out already can you find out and explain why small seizures cause such an emotional imbalance afterwards? The seizure itself is scary but not I’m struggling more with how to stay calm after it’s gone when my emotions feel like I have no control almost worse than a panic attack. I am so thankful for people out there like you. Words can’t describe how much of a difference you make. It’s hard enough but people like you are our light in this dark tunnel helping us.

Your enthusiasm for improving the quality of life for those with epilepsy, including PNES, is inspiring Doctor. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico where we have a teaching hospital at the University of New Mexico. And their neurology department is terrible, in all honesty. They never provided the results of my EEG results to my neurologist following a suspected hemiplegic migraine which included a seizure. The EEG was in 2022!! I am planning to make an appointment with you as you are in my insurance network and I am absolutely thrilled to see a medical professional so enthusiastic in helping his patients. Your help can potentially change my life and getting to Detroit to consult with you will be worth every penny.

my father is 82yrs old had seizure 2 days ago. He’s diabetic on insulin/ has severe diabetic neuropathy/ mild hypertension / seizures(was free of seizures for 10yrs). Had 1st seizure 13yrs ago n put on Levipil. He was seizure free for 10+yrs atleast. He was admitted to the hospital as he’d Seizures , unconscious n bit his tongue. the hospital said he’d severe pneumonia & that probably triggered seizure. Is that possible? Or missing medicine caused that? What questions should I ask the doctor? Like what kind of seizure is this? And what’s the best treatment option? What to avoid/what precautions should he take? VNS has been done on me, but it doesn't TOTALLY control the seizures. When I have a seizure it is very short. Doesn't even last more than one minute. Usually around 10 to 15 seconds only. I still have to take medications: Briviact and Vimpat. It has caused vocal cord paraylaze. (spelling?) I can still talk just fine, so it is not bad. Just have to watch closely for years to see if I will need to end up having surgery on my vocal cords.

I have right side temporal lobe epilepsy and i just got out of the hospital after my second time going into status epilepticus. Luckily my epileptologist called the morning it happened the second time and and talked my mom through everything. He diagnosed me with an amygdala dysplasia and stayed on the phone with my mom untill i stopped seizing for the second time that day. Im not gonna lie even though my doctors tell me their shouldnt be any side effects from the surgery im still absolutely terrified to have someone poke around in my brain. im absolutely terrified that im going to die in the operating room and my family will be left behind to deal with my problems in life ( finances and what not ) i trust my epileptologist but it doesnt change the fact i dont particularly want someone poking around in my brain 😅 he believes that if i have my right temporal lobe removed i shouldnt have any major side effects like memory loss because i already have memory loss issues as well as the inability to process and remember directions when people tell them to me. Im not gonna lie this is a fascinating disease.

What intervention is needed for long term medication on anti epileptic meds. Keto is expensive to maintain. We both don't work. Meds are very expensive, thankful for God's provisions. Thank you

My son is 23 and continues to have a full onset seizure about once every 45 days. His only treatment has been Keppra. He has been diagnosed with JM eat in the past and now it has turned to progressive. Watt particular treatment that you mentioned should we be following? By the way, I can’t thank you enough for such an informative video you gave us parents hope!

I have JME and diet and sleep is VERY important. I just found out i have a gene variation that causes me to be sensitive to glutamates. I increased salts and decrease my glutamates by limiting high glutamate foods like aged cheese and processed foods. You can't avoid glutamates altogether, but you can lower your intake of particularly high foods. Due to my particular gene i also have to add lots of salt to my diet, but always check with your dr before trying that. Keppra did not help me tho i cant remember if it was ineffective or had bad side effects. My dr has me on a very low dose of clobazam. Appearantly JME gets easier to treat as you age tho doesnt go away completely. My pharmacy sends my meds in dose paks to help me be diligent in taking my doses on time. I also found GABA related medications can aggravate my seizures. This includes gabapentin and magnolia bark. If your son is on a GABA med you should talk to your dr about the possibility it could be triggering seizures and consider changing meds. I hope these tips help! My 20s were rough but now im 43 and havent had a seizure in over a year. Keep trying! It can get better i promise!

My younger brother is 33 years old. He had epilepsy at a very young age. He would stop breathing for close to two minutes at the time of seizure. His lungs would beg for air as if he is under water. His lips would swell and turn purple. His whole body would turn stiff and there is heavy jerking. Makes me scared most of the time.

Having issues with being on the blood thinner Coumadin, l take many medications for seizures l still get seizures. Some of your advice makes lots of possible treatments. l do like the keto idea, however, as l mentioned that would affect l think my INR test. Providing the keto may not be the option l should be looking at what do you think? l get mostly seizures sporadically 3 a month mostly while l am sleeping. ( Antiphospholipid Syndrome ) APS added on with seizures can be an issue.

I asked to have it shut down. I'm 51 years old & my seizures got so bad I had a seizure at work on February 4 of this year I had a small stroke prior to going into the heavy seizure the Dr had to put me into a coma for about 4 days because the seizure was so strong I have been on every medicine on the market the Dr I'm seeing now started me on the newest med clobazam 10 mg & kept me on lamictal 150 mg my wife , mother & my boss had to use Nayzilam nasal spray on me multiple times ever sense the bad one in February i get the Oras quite often lately before the seizure .I lived with epilepsy sense 3 months old is there any other surgeries to bring the seizures to a stop . Thank you for your help and time . Dave .P

i have taken many seizure medications without success and my doctor has told me that epileptic surgery is only successful in a very very small percentage of patients. i have been forced to live with super painful and disabling grand mal seizures for 30 years, about 2-3/month. by the time i finally get over having a seizure i have another. a lot of times they result in injuries but not every time. trying to go to the er for the pain or inability to walk/move is pointless, most times they give me a 800mg ibuprofen (like trying to knock down a building by throwing a paper wad at it) and tell me to go home. this is not something i would wish on ANYONE WHATSOEVER (not my worst enemy or even satan himself) and i hope/pray NOONE EVER EVER HAS TO GO THROUGH THIS!!!!!!

Hi there. My Grandson age three had his first seizure in November. He has been diagnosed with Doose syndrome. He has just come out of hospital after six weeks and was on a medically managed Ketogenic diet. It didn't work!! Can you throw any light on why it doesn't work for some? His meds have all been changed up with this new diagnosis and he has been seizure free for nearly a week. You name the seizure type and he was having them. I'm watching you from Ireland.

Hi Doctor, I live in south of india in mumbai and went to north india for a week there i had acidity issue for a week. After a week stay, at end of Dec month in 2022, I had planned for a trek in snow mountain. While i was waiting for my train I fainted on railway platform. On that day I had bloated stomach, had hyper acidity with food poison issue. I cancelled the trip and When I reach home in mumbai I consult few doctors and after three month In March I did my eeg test which shows "bilateral intermittent sharp wave discharges noted". I don't experience fits in my life. I told to doctor also. But I am really worried. I am not able to sleep from few days.

I have been on Dilantin since 2007 & Topimax since about 2010. I did a trial of Aptiom in December to try to be able to come off Dilantin but the trial failed. I had nystagmus, passing out, somnolence, itchy all over, stomach pain & nausea. Since I came off the Aptiom, I have more nocturnal seizures than normal and terrible ptsd nightmares. Is this because of the Aptiom & if so, how long will it take to return to baseline? I am from British Columbia.
