Given that DUST 514 was a Combined Arms Warfare game and this is just another generic Extraction Shooter, they aren't even the same Genre's, I would have loved a new DUST 514 that wasn't crippled by being put on a platform exclusive of a console at the end of its life, but this is not it.
Dust 514 was actually good and fit the vibe of Eve a bit better than this. The death knell was the whole "You know how our player base is PC, let's make this PS exclusive on the final cycle of the current generation" Absolutely mind boggling decision there. Take Planetside scope, make that in an EvE universe. There, I made you a kickass game ccp. Nobody wants to play this shitty tarkov, and this coming from someone who loves EvE online for decades.

Thanks for bringing some attention to this game! For all of us that played Dust 514 while it was out it's great to see CCP coming back to it, and I hope they stick the landing this time. EDIT: Okay, having watched to the end of the video now, I can tell you from having been in all but the earliest of the playtests they've done that the concept has already evolved a good amount over the past few months. The devs have been really active on the EVE Discord and are now being even more active in the new EVE Vanguard Discord, and it's been really nice to see feedback we gave taken into account already. They recently released a new InFocus video that goes deeper into what they want the game to eventually be which I think you might find intriguing.
I loved Dust so much because I loved watching videos about Eve and it was just always beyond me but I love seeing the stories about Eve and getting the brief opportunity to play Dust felt like I was finally part of it lol. I was just a kid then but Dust 514 was such a cool moment in gaming history.

@@rock2k14 tbf, the whole concept of Dust 514 sounded great back then but after further thinking about it it just didn't make any real sense and most things were never implemented (and would have literally killed what was left of the product if they did). I see why they make an extraction shooter this time given that it generally doesn't precisely draw a low amount of players. Do I see it go anywhere as a former long term EvE player? Not really honestly, PvPvE extraction sounds like a concept that fits a shooter focused around (and directly connected to) EVE perfectly fine, but I highly doubt that it'll somehow be more successful at achieving what Dust was supposed to achieve, let alone survive if they'd try to implement every cross interaction they wanted for a shooter.
it seems like a shit ton of companys are moving towards making extraction shooters i find them quite fun but idk why every single company on this green earth has to make a fucking version of it like come up with you're own shit
As someone with 5K hours in EVE and thousands in FPS like Tarkov and Valorant why they didn’t go a looter shooter route with realistic abilities is baffling to me. Why can’t I just be a foot soldier fighting for one of the factions and just do missions and loot with items linked to the EVE economy with a compelling story. Maybe we get sent on an operation here and there and have access to weapons of a frigate in low orbit for support. A mix of Halo ODST, The Division and a bit of Warframe but set in the EVE universe. This game looks so generic it’s insane. Extraction Shooter what a joke man.
Honestly? Because if you tie it too closely to EVE you limit its appeal. EVE is a decent-sized MMORPG, but it pales in comparison to big MMORPGs. CCP want a lot of players, not just a small % of EVE players who might play a shooter. They're obviously making Vanguard as a cool standalone experience for people who don't give a shit about EVE. Might not be what EVE players want to hear, but makes perfect sense.
Like most of the population, I don’t think you’ll ’get it’ right away, Level. This game is a spiritual successor to Dust 514 from back in the day on PS3, the community would love the devs to make the game the same as Dust 514 and then improve on it but in order to appeal to a wider audience it needs to be more than that. If the suits, weapons and vehicles come back, the Dusties will be happy (and they need to fix the tram system too!), but in order for it to become sustainable they will probably need something like microtransactions to move it along. This won’t be the game ‘we’ want it to be for a few years at least so like me, I imagine most will just lurk in the background until there’s a heavy suit, a forge gun and a minigun as well as a smattering of vehicles and then dive in. Us folks that used to play every single day now have kids and houses to run so it will take something special to claw us back. We’ll be keeping half an eye out though so hopefully see you on the battlefield in 2025.
This game feels closer to "The Cycle: Stormachasers" (the alpha version of The Cycle) it makes me happy to see something like that being made once again.
Though I'm not gonna play this game, since EVE has been a thing in the past for me, I do hope CIG checks this out and learn good things from it. For example, the concept of orbital strike from Dust 514 was so cool! Imagine Javelin or Bengal can bombard from the orbit, would be epic!
Wait. Bro the concept/idea for EVE 514 is top tier. I need games like that and Planetside 2 and more shit like that where it's like galactic war real time. Fighting on Planets and those Battles actually have concrete standing within the world. Maybe winning a battle means that the highest ranking group could rule over the planet in some way.
On the Dust 514 note, I always felt like having a FPS portion as well as a possible fighter pilot role, tied into the EVE mmo was a missed opportunity. If any mmo could do it, I believe Eve could.
It looks like a typical extraction, but it is pretty cool in concept. Imagine knowing real players/clan on EVE is hiring you below to get things done for them etc.
Chip Set customization is intriguing, reminds me a bit of Destiny 2 weapon upgrades. Yet unlike Destiny 2, the lack of weapon diversity alone is a dead on arrival for me.

I absolutely smashed Dust 514 back in the day (TSOLE 4 Life!). But I kind of like the idea that the playing field will be a bit more levelled. Our Corp was fortunate to have a small piece of the planetary conquest when it was live, but for other players, even dedicated ones, it was a bit demoralizing when they are watching 4 or 5 corps just dominating the space and their efforts were pointless. I only hope that terrain and maps will be a bit more varied and picturesque than what we are seeing in this video. We should be past the brown and grey aesthetic with Unreal Engine 5, and without bosses, beasts or alien NPCs the gameplay could get old real fast.
I HATE the fact that each race wont have its own unique play style like in Eve and DUST. Minmitar used projectiles, amarr lasers ect ect Dust 514 seems superior in combat and flow of game. I do like this new pvpve mix of the extraction shooter however.
So a WHILE back they actually showed off concept art of at least one rifle for each race, but this time it's not just race but Corporations, so you'll have different styles of weapon for each race based on what Corporation makes it. They showed off a Gallente Plasma gun, the Minmatar gun you see in game which fires bullets, a Caldari gun that uses a chemical cartridge to 3D print railgun ammo for itself, and an Amarr laser rifle that looks like more of an art piece than a gun. So a good representation of how each race does guns. The current gun in Vanguard looks EXACTLY like that old concept art, so it's a safe bet that's what we're going to see for the other three.
Played dust 514 on the ps3 back in the day. I played it so much even tho it was limited by demo because i didn't have money and wanted to play more but seeing it go sucks. I was shocked to see eve trying again to say the least
The thing is that DUST closed because the playerbase was too small. You can argue that it's because of reason X or reason Y, but that's why it closed. So them just bringing it back for that small playerbase wouldn't make sense. They're trying to reach a bigger playerbase, one that warrants its development cost.
I am also incredibly disappointed, 514 was the first online shooter I've played, and it's so disappointing that this is just more extraction shooter slop. I really hate modern AAA gaming
I like Extraction games.....but this doesnt fit the Eve Universe. They should have stuck with Planetside/Battlefield style gameplay. We really need a game to fill the void by no new Battlefield 2043. Large scale battles, Orbital ships to call in reinforcements. I briefly tried Dust and only vaguely remember it being similar to Killzone, which I liked, so they should build on that and make a 128 player Battlefield style game set in the Eve Universe
This video needs more views. As someone who plays eve still and has now for 17 years, the failure of dust was sad, but needed. It allowed ccp to fix a lot of stuff related to the Eve universe. Now is the best time to launch a new shooter. I hope many people try it.
I honestly think they should be going down the route of taking up directly from where Dust left off. The probes with Dust was it was PS3 exclusive. Which made no sense for a game directly connected to a PC space MMO. This game will flop. It’s doing absolutely nothing interesting. A massive space ground war sim connected to EVE online would be much much more interesting. This looks really quite basic. Why they think copying Tarkov is a good idea makes no sense, when they should be pickup up from BF and Planetside

Hopefully this time CCP doesn't do something moronic like make it a console exclusive. I was an active Eve player back in 2009 and was really looking forward to Dust 514, as was the rest of the corp I was in. It later being reveled to be a PS3 exclusive killed basically all interest we had it in since we were all PC players and as far as I know none of them ever even tried it when it launched.
Nah, it'll release on Windows. But we knew back then that Dust would be PS3 exclusive long beforehand tho, as they always said that we'll be able to transport console players to their operations on the ground as well as delivering ressources. And I'm kinda glad that they never fully implemented all those "crossplay" features they wanted (like the transportation), it would've killed Dust within 2 days of its release if half of your playtime is sitting in a loading bay or something and waiting for someone to fly you 20 jumps to the next planet, or at best wait even more because it's in low sec and no one wants to fly there/they get shot down, at best with only one team getting ressource supplies by a huge corp gate keeping.
Another game lost to the extraction shooter genre. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me. Certainly feels like there are fewer games I want to play though
I am unsure how any amount of rose-coloured glasses could say that Dust514 was a decent game, it was utterly busted in almost every way, from lag to hit collision to insane bugs and a broken economy model. I REALLY gave a good solid go and it was just terrible.

god this game looks like such hot garbage, dust was a good game, crippled by being a console exclusive, because, y'know, let's take a game set in one of the most notoriously complex universes that only the most hardcore PC players even wanna play, and put it on a platform, that usually attracts only the most casual gamers. They literally did it to themselves, and dust could've easily still been alive i think if they had just released it on any decent platform.
