@@charlie5thumbs351 the intro music started gettin everything blocked! This was recorded last July 1st and had to wait to be unblocked for that long! Sometimes it’s a pain!
@@RobSquadReactions - You asked if James has a song more relaxed. Even his ballads, like "It's A Man's World", which you have done, have quite a bit of passion to them. There is one recording of his that reached the top 40 called "King Heroin", which is a spoken word recording. It would be something unusual and different for you to cover.
Best walk up ever. James Brown singing Living In America with Carl Weathers dressed up as Uncle Sam. Weird Al has a fun cover called Living With A Hernia!
@@debjorgo This is one of those songs where my brain always goes to the parody first and I can't help but hear those lyrics in my mind when I'm listening to the original.
MC Danny Ray kept trying to help him away. He’d put a cape over his shoulders and help him to his feet, then James would throw off the cape and return time after time. 🪦👑😂
@@ChrisC709 Yes, but I appreciated the comment because I did not know he stayed for 5 hours and he was that upset….and that they were good friends. Glad to know.
A young Dolph Lundgren would have been the perfect Master Chief in Halo movie. Because the guy they have now don't look like he should be Master Chief.. And sound nothing like him either.
They've seen it. This is an old video recorded (and blocked) a long time ago. Looks like they took a shot and put it out there again. They've talked about it.
Yes he was! Other artists admired him as well. Michael Jackson was a huge fan and he emulated his dance moves! I believe Jackson attended his funeral as well. The late great actor Chadwick Boseman portrayed him well in Get On Up. There will not be another like him!
Yes, you need to start doing some Weird Al parodies starting with this one. James Brown let Weird Al use his band and stage to recreate the video nearly exactly.
@@TomP-pf7knYes they are really missing out not doing Weird Al! “Living with a Hernia,” “White & Nerdy,” “Word Crimes,” and “The Saga Begins,” just to name few they need to react to!
@@macmcgee5116 James also lent Weird Al the use of his stage set and band so he could recreate the video perfectly. That's how much James enjoyed the parody.
What James didn't do was take himself way too seriously, he was laid back and chill with people sampling off him and making parodies of him and that's one reason why I love him
This is the PERFECT way to set up starting Weird Al reactions, as he does a parody of this song with a brilliant homage to the video as well. Time for Weird Al!
One of the funniest things in history is James Brown getting interviewed while on a little magic nose powder on the news yelling “LIVING IN AMERICA”. Happy America day everyone, be safe and be healthy 🤘🏾✌🏾
You guys must, must, must listen to the parody by Weird Al Yankovic, Living with a hernia. James Brown actually helped him with the video, providing the set the dancers and helping Al by showing him his moves. Believe me that you will not be disappointed by going down the Weird Al rabbit hole.
This is always fun to watch. Two other James Brown songs I highly recommend are "Licking Stick, Licking Stick" (My personal favorite James Brown song) and "The Old Landmark" from "The Blues Brothers movie.
Of course James Brown has more mellow songs…”It’s a Man’s World,” “ Try Me,” “ Bewildered”, “ Prisoner of Love,” “I’ll Go Crazy(If You Leave Me)” “ Please, Please, Please”…
Because of this song, James Brown was the only artist to have the #1 single in the USA on the day he got inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I believe Dan Hartman produced this; you seriously need to do a react to Hartman's song "I Can Dream About You," which came out within a year of this, I think.
I believe they've already reacted to that Jam. Only one they haven't done far as I'm aware is vertigo/ relight my fire which I suspect will be a proper jam for Jay and Amber
Blond guy is Dolph Lundgren. Fun facts: Lundgren earned his black belt while studying to be a chemical engineer. He earned a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering and then was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT. While preparing to attend MIT, he met Grace Jones, and he dropped the scholarship, stayed with her and started taking acting lessons. Aside from having a decent acting career he is also very intelligent.
Two words ... "Funky President". Very timely indeed. You gotta understand ... Brown isn't just a singer, he's basically the conductor of an "orchestra". Producer, arranger, He did it ALL. Like PRINCE later on, He also had a "stable" of orbiting "satellite" artists. Man built a funk EMPIRE.
Great song! It was from the Rocky IV movie soundtrack. Jay, that "Blonde hair dude" was Ivan Drago played by Dolph Lungren. You see him on TV doing the Old Spice Commercials.
I love this video...James Brown at his dynamic best. Weird Al has a great spoof called "Living With A Hernia" and he really does a great job of imitating James Brown in his video! I can't hear this song w/o thinking of Weird Al's spoof!! This song was on the soundtrack of one of the Rocky movies!🤣😂
This is from Rocky 4, where Rocky is fighting a Russian in the middle of the Cold War before the Berlin Wall was taken down. Thus the super funky, patriotic song representing for America.
I remember living with my parents at the time this came out. I would play my rock music, which they didn't care for. When I played THIS, they wanted me to play it again.
@@sonsofthesportsguy I thougth they had, but how could they forget this entire scene. They also said they didn't recognize Drago. How can one forget James Brown AND Drago?
@@sonsofthesportsguyYep, they posted a review of Rocky IV on Aug 30, 2023. But in that reaction they said that they had reacted to this video previously but it was blocked and were saving it for July 4. So this reaction is old but only being posted now.
@@SuperHondo21 Thanks for that explanation. I was just ready to cut them some slack because they've tried to absorb over half a century of pop culture over the last couple years. It's got to be quite a jumble in their heads by now.
James Brown was massive in the UK clubs in the 60's and 70's . Best track 'There was a time ' single version or long version from the album Live at The Apollo Volume 2
My favourite James Brown story: in the mid-70s, David Bowie poached guitarist Carlos Alomar from James Brown's band. Soon afterwards, Bowie released "Fame", which is driven by some gorgeous, funky Carlos Alomar riffs. When James heard it on the radio, he immediately recognized his old protege's guitar work, and got annoyed that Bowie was biting his style using his own (ex-)guitarist. So James immediately recorded and released "Hot (I Need To Be Loved)", which is a shameless rip-off of "Fame", although James would have you believe that it was him who got ripped off. And he was kind of right about that... kind of...! And then hip-hop came along and suddenly it was open season, with EVERYONE ripping off the Godfather of Soul!
I want that Duran Duran shirt! I used to draw that logo all over my notebooks. Speaking of which- MORE EARLY DURAN DURAN!! The first three albums, please! And not just the big hits, all the songs are awesome.
James Brown had more stage presence in his little finger than most people have in their entire body! I was fortunate enough to have spent a good bit of my childhood in Augusta, GA & therefore, was introduced to Mr. Brown at a young age. If you want some slow songs by Brother James, I would suggest "It's a Man's, Man's Man's World", "Oh Baby Don't You Weep", "Please, Please, Please", "Down & Out in New York", "Try Me", "Bewildered" & his cover of "Georgia on my Mind".
Growing up in the '60s, I loved the Beatles and all of the beat groups, but none of them made my jaw drop like James Brown and the Ike and Tina Turner Revue! Super hot stuff!
Gotta view "Living with a Hernia" by Weird Al someday. James Brown liked Weird Al and helped him with the same dancers to make the video and it's a banger too.
Now that you've seen this you need to see Weird Al's parody "Living with a Hernia". He used the stage, some musicians, dancers, and James taught him some of the signature footwork. The video is also educational.
I was coming through customs in France and after I had clearance to return to the USA, the agent sang this song and did an amazing James Brown dance for a minute. Everyone clapped. Great moment on the way back to USA. But, I always tear up when they say, “Welcome home” at the US port and I see the kazillion US flags. Sweet.
If this song doesn't get you, you must be dead.Just the Bomb, the Drumming keeps it tight, but it's expansive as well. Brown was a hard Taskmaster and his Band is so polished.Funk and Chutzpah in Spades.
This was the centerpiece of the first half of Rocky 4 (1985) when Apollo Creed dueled Ivan Drago. The song was actually part of the plot of that sequence.
