Has Ford addressed 1, the wet belt issues ? 2, Clogged oil pick up/oil pump issues ? 3, are Ford undersealing the body’s to prevent surface rust ? 4, have they improved vehicle security? Transits are well known to be weak in this department ? 5, ev what warranty do you get with the Battery/ Price to replace battery ? 6, the towing capacity of the EV & Hybrid are over a ton less than the diesel’s capabilities. All valid questions for tradesmen when considering a purchase/investment for there company. This is style second review I’ve watched and neither has touched on the above points. Buyers need a real time, real life review, not a sales pitch.
Thanks for this - all very useful. I filmed this on the international launch with very limited time. These are all very valid questions and I can follow this up when I drive the van in the UK
Hope its a lot better than the model with the wet cam belt which is a major problem or a plumber mate as had a new clutch 3000 miles but they look great forget reliability
why would you buy new Custom, when you can just buy Transporter? L shaped bulkhead seems to be an interesting option. tilting steering wheel is dumb feature, who needed to chop height? Never struggled with my mk6/custom/Traffic on parking (except one dodgy in Bath lol) and lastly....why they had to cross out a killer feature of Ford vans since mk5-huge comfortable mirrors?...
Does it have 10 ton cheap heavy cheap steel panels like the ptevious model? Park it 1 degree downhill and it takes a body builder to slide open the side doors. Massively thirsty and excessive mpg and wear tear on the tires etc therefore. Buyer beware
Why arent there tradesmen mucky rough n ready types reviewing these van with normal ascents, we live in these vans doing our trades and know more than these snobs who sit up a desk they never work out of a transit, hate sleazy sales people, there so small in the cab, 3 blokes is crammed unlike the previous model, much smaller van
I know a lot of people have had issues with the transit custom. I have a 2020 ford transit custom sport panel van, new from a dealer, now done just over 100K not had a single problem, except some surface rust spots, infotainment freezes occasionally (can reset using power + fast forward button press combo). Compared to the Renault Master I had before that was constantly in the garage with electrical problems, not to mention a hole that appeared in the rear floor at 50k. The ford is so effortless and comfortable to work in and these new models look just as good at first look.
Did you ever have unreliability with the info main screen especially with the audio system, I had this from day 2 and they've never really been abeen able to really fix it , it comes and goes?
Top marks on an excellent review. As per usual Ford have listened to their customers and come up trumps again. It always amazes me how other vehicle manufacturers take their clients for granted, while Ford actively encourages its customers to help enhance the product. Look forward to driving the latest version of the well deserved best seller.
Got one. Awful van. Badly put together. Panels aren't flush, back doors won't stay open if slightly windy, over complicated interior controls. Then there is the mechanical side which I'm not even bothering with. How can they make, what was a good van, into this shambles.
That digital dashboard is truly horrible and fiddling through the different menus of the central screen makes you take your eyes off the road which is potentially dangerous.
Okay looking van , well equipped with lots of toys. They'll be handy to play with when that pile of crap wet belt lets you down and your parked up waiting for the recovery truck.
Yes mate . Well looking van but horrendous quality. I've bought last Monday and took it back Tuesday . All lights around of the vehicle fogged up , driver door was well out of body lines that stopping it closing properly, map system is so bad every 30 sec changes your direction to different points like 15mins ( 30 sec later ) 2 hours away etc etc . Dealer doesn't want to take the vehicle back now they want to repair it brand new vehicle 😅 ford quality is not getting any further with this new vans .
@@nikolaymitev66 wow looks like you got a stinker. You have a 4 week cooling off period where you can cancel the finance. Don’t fall for the dealer stalling you. My 20 plate transit is a decent van. The point I was making is , despite all the fancy designer changes, under the skin, there is still inherent build flaws. The sort of issues you shouldn’t have to deal with, in this day and age. This is what lets Ford down. Lots of competition in this sector. When companies are forking out £30k you expect a decent standard. Ohh and the headlights look great. But like candles 🕯️ at night
You have a main timing belt for top & bottom crack & camshaft. Which also drives the fuel pump. To reduce the friction and loss of power Ford (in their infinite wisdom) decided to drive the oil pump of a separate belt. Which is rubber. To maintain the belt it is submerged partially in the oil sum. Ford spec that the timing belt and wet belt DO NOT need replacing until approximately 130,000 miles or 5 years I believe. It has become apparent that the wet belt slowly degrades over time and can fail. When this failure happens the belt strips and deposits into the oil sump. This in turn starves the oil supply to the engine. Seizing the engine. As the wet belt is separate from the main timing belt the engine continues to run on. Damaging the engine further. Basically when the wet belt fails, your engine is completely destroyed. Ford have done nothing to revise the service intervals for standard and major service times. Basically when you start getting towards 85-95 k I’d be looking at replacing the Timming belt and wet belt. Before it costs you a full engine.
Been driving transits since 1991. I have 2013 custom. Its nice.but i thought have more toys on it. Review was very well done. But im not impressed. Just looks like my old van with bling lol.
Just bought one of these new vans. Four days old and all the screens have gone blank and no gps. Turns out ford service say it’s a known fault on certain longitudes that the gps don’t work. No fix though. Currently have this van with 200miles, four days old, no speedo, no gps,no trip and settings won’t save and store. £50000 and my seats have a label that says “low cost” written on it. Underneath not paints or undersealed and electrical connectors in wheel arches that are not water proof or even sealed. This vehicle is the biggest pile of rubbish and over priced. If I could return it I would.
A friend both one last March and it’s giving lots of electronic problems. Recently it’s been in the workshop for 2 weeks and still not solved. Also heavier on fuel than the previous model.
Very polished James but not many shots of the interior which you mentioned a few times. Found your article on M Brewer on Car Dealer, will look out for more articles. Keep up the good work.
My 2019 transit With 40k miles on clock Drivers seat bolster material has totally worn away , and split , ya would think I’ve done 300k miles and get in and out van 200 times i day ( but I don’t ) The steering wheel grip / covering has totally worn away and it’s now super smooth and dull The auxiliary batter caught fire when car was 2 years old with 20k miles on clock The infortainment system often freezes and after a few days un freezes and starts to work again , Other than them issues , it’s never missed a beat which should’ve expected seen as only 4 years old with 40k miles
I have the screen problems too Azza. Does yours also annoyingly change your aduio source when restarting? Wow with your worn bolster and steering wheel all I can say is you obviously treat it rough as mine looks new and it's done the exact amount of K's as yours?
@@Neil-Aspinall I'm tb only peorpn on the company who looks after there work van as if it's my own It gets washed weekly ,and waxed every few months And interior cleaned and hoovered etc ,very regularly For a 4 year old work van it's it's very very good condition Apart from the very very worn steering wheel and very worn seat bolster My car has 50 K miles on and steering wheel is perfect. My previous car had 150 K miles and steering wheel was perfect So I'm completely puzzled why the transit steering wheel looks like it's done 400.000 miles not 40 thousand
That touch screen will last a month… touch screens are a step backwards and should be regulated / banned in totality. The electric van will likely only do under 100 miles total range, and will be astronomically expensive.
Its the electric version that will be of interest. Not sure what the big commercial benefit of the new diesel model. Like to have seen a longer ev range plugin with fast charging or like the volt/epowerbut then refinement is something the drivers had less interest paying more for. 35 miles for the plugin wont get you around most low emission cities like london and thats the official vs real world reality.
Ford deserve a lot of credit for continuing to offer a diesel version at this time, especially when like many other makes they will be coming under pressure to go EV. But the EVs are not the most practical for business and aren't really selling as well as had been hoped. Sunak has obviously pushed the cut-off date back to 2035 for sale of Petrol and Diesel engines. If customers aren't really wanting to go EV, and we know that hydrogen fuel cell or/and Hydrogen combustion are in the pipeline then this is a good call.
Decent and enthusiastic review. Of course vans make most sense when loaded…… which is something conspicuous by its absence in most reviews. The same applies to 7 seat SUVs.
These reviews are pointless! Try a review when it’s 3 years old and just out of warranty. My last ford had so many electrical issues at just after 3 years old not even 2 ford garages could fix it! Cost me a bloody fortune. Never again!
They struggle to sell in Australia, so Ford is doing something wrong, the price is a problem to start with I believe, I don't know whether they have reliability issues or poor dealership service or warranty claim problems.
@@sharonec5419 There isn't any that they are able to show (so makes me think there aren't any). Unlike VW and others are doing. GM pulled out of Europe.
@@pb5x5I believe that GM still owns the Luton plant and do produce engines and a number of commercial vehicle vehicles there. I don’t know about the German plants.
What I find hard to swallow is the massive price hike, I paid £19300 +vat three years ago for two custom Limiteds, now they’ve shot up to nearly £40,000 each excluding vat !!!!!
Sorry couldn't stop laughing after the electric range was mentioned, I did however catch something about a VW collaboration, is that with auto boxes If so not a very good idea.
Having suffered the ownership of a VW based Leon 2ltr TDI and friends who have the had the eco boom focus I never took any real notice as I would never own either make again. @@Transporter2084
