New Friedman IR-X Deep Dive with special guest Michael Nielsen! 

I must have one.. playing a LP and this thing nails every '80s tone I live and die by? OMG..

This has really been a blessing to me. This pedal man truly added this to my rig. Now I’m only carrying around my dirty Shirley and this pedal along with a Friedman 2 x 12 truly I was carrying around so much more before however, I have not been able to dial-in exactly some of the dirty Shirley tones. Certainly I realize that is a slightly different amplifier, but otherwise all the other tones I have pretty much retired my small box Amplifier I have not used it in four months or just the Shirley and the pedal and I am gigging three nights a week and rehearsing five truly a blessing. Having the power amp emulation still on when the IR is bypassed is so sick. Should end up working well with something like the Seymour Duncan Powerstage.

What sold me on it was the clean on the Plexi channel. The ability to go from that beautiful clean to a scorching lead is amazing.

I got the new IR-X and I use it with a Marshall 100 watt and blend the two preamps together. I send both signals into independent hush units then aural exciter the two processors Lexicon and Roland anda mixer then return to the Marshall and a Mosvalve and a velocity. 4 amp channels drive two 4 x 12's and a cab w/ a 15" & a 10" and a small horn and another15" a sub-woofer.

Fantastic! I'm having a hard time not pulling the trigger on this right now. Screw it, I just ordered one.

I would absolutely buy a DS circuit version of this. I'm a little on the fence right now but considering selling one of my heads in order to get one. I travel every weekend and would love to have something like this to bring with. I've packed a guitar and my CaptorX but that involves lugging a head along as well. This definitely solves that problem. I'm not a modern player. I favor a little more of a vintage 70's dinosaur rock sound, and am unfamiliar with the BE tone and feel. This seems like such a great device though.

This is a cool unit! I might have some rent-a-Marshall dates coming up next year and this might be exactly what I'm looking for instead of a modeler. I'd still need a small little light multi fx that's lighter than a Subway sandwich to go with it. Any suggestions Dave? @Tone-Talk

to hell with it, I bought a limited edition on Reverb tonight despite having three Friedman amps already - I'm trying to think of it as a 'super chat without the question' rather than a box with a sloppy rune on the side.

So I imported one from Friedman all the way down under to NZ. I think it was the 'box of awesome' demo that sold me. One of the tones reminded me of Marty's Tornado Of Souls solo tone, so me thinking I can get that direct to DAW was an irresistible temptation. I have not been able to get that tone so far. It does seem more realistic and amp like to my ears, but am finding it has exactly the same issue lots of amp plugins have when I try them. Lots of gain, but the sound gets very, very thin and little sounding on the unwound strings for soloing, but the low end is about right. For DAW noodling and practice I still prefer the tone of my Brainworx Engl preamp plugin into Two Notes and a Pete Thorn IR (a nice sustaining and thick tone, but like most modelling it is less dynamic and less honest). When I crank a Superlead into my Power Station into DAW and IRs the notes are much, much bigger sounding. Lots of weight to the note, but I can not get the same from the IR-X. Obviously I do not know what the eff I am doing, because Micheal got it sounding nice and thicc and phatt. What's the trick? Please! 🤣 P.S. For me it is just meant for practice and noodling into DAW. Something I can put lots of hours on, so I do not have to thrash my amps into reactive loads to get tones I like. In theory the IR-X is the perfect solution for that.

Funny, just hearing Dave's comment about having 8 midi controlled channels... synergy anyone? I got 2 SYN-2s rocking and us my trusted 90s midi board to switch. Tone heaven.

As far as the tone. How does it compare to your Synergy modules plugged into an fx loop? I understand there’s a lot more going on with the IR-X. But as an owner of the BE-BB module, which I absolutely love, how does it compare?

Thoughts on making the knobs programmable? For recording purposes I think it would be invaluable tool. If you change the knobs, but want to recall the knobs from a previous session, I think it would be great.

Any recommended passive splitter boxes? I want to run a Pod Go for the effects with the IRX going into the return of a Marshall

The product makes sense. Friedman amps arent cheap. First friedman I heard was the Steve Stevens, killer amp. At this price you get real access to their tone not a model and very portable. In this world of modellers and convience this is smart its what people want. I have a few fiedman preamp modules in use with Synergy which can cost as much as double what this unit costs.

The only thing this preamp is missing is a Class D power section like the Victory V4 pedal amps have. That's what's stopped me from pulling the trigger on this.

Ok so everybody can stop looking...this is all you wil need I have had line6 ht dual, the russian valve job name ?, duncan classic etc This is the one Just buy it......

When you had the editor screen up, in the bottom corner I noticed it said powered by synergy. Could it be the guts of this device are similar to the Synergy BE-DLX module? Just curious by the powered by synergy and what exactly does that mean? 😀

Please add midi control change capabilities so I can control the presence & thump from my midi controller without switching patches. I want to have a footswitch assigned to each of the 4 parameter. Right now there are 81 possible combinations between the 2 channels. 4 switches to toggle each setting is way better than 81 patches. Then I can have all the possible options without connecting a computer.

Not sure if this was asked In here. Is it possible to use this as a power amp by bypassing the preamp? Or do you just get the ir’s with no poweramp?

I want to go straight in, Strat neck pick-up, boost on, -no gain AND no IR’s going straight to the house. I don’t like IR’s Mr White… I make my own with my hands guitar & speaker/cabinet relationship, -that’s just as important as the amplifier relationship in that recipe.
