@@PrecisionRifleNetworkI agree with you but at the same time, since I had a Labradar and comparable units are several hundred dollars more, I think this is very affordable and in a package that I can comfortably travel with.
You said you mounted it under your barrel upside down. The alignment said it needs to at least 5” outside the barrel. This is probably why Area419 made theirs go outside the barrel.
BulletSeeker => you can delete each individual shoot, during detection or later in the string you can also cut parts of the detection of each individual shot
Been shooting for 50 years, finally decided to stop trusting what the makers put on the box! Saw this thing and I now have my first chronograph! Got six different loads for my new 6.5 creed, ammo makers beware😂(looking at you hornady)😂 can’t wait to start testing! Very easy to get running, set up Garmin express on my MacBook, needed a software update, that took maybe 2 mins! Ready to roll
On the iOS app for the bulletseeker / speedtracker you can actually delete single shots from the strings and you can also "cut" away parts (spikes) of the measurements within a single shot.
Chronographs, where do i begin? I've had a Oehler 35 for over 25 years. The 35 was the best that could be bought. Most hunters don't need a chronograph to get a deer. The chronograph could be looked at as a luxury. I shoot an Air Arms TX200 22cal pellet gun. After thousands of rounds it wasn't shooting right. The Oehler was only reading about 1 in 5 shots. I got the Garmin Xero and it read EVERY shot, even shooting at night. I had a failure in my compression tube. The velocity was all over the place. After diagnosis the new compression tube was replaced and the gun was back to shooting perfectly. I've also chronographed my shotgun, it worked. The Garmin is a great chronograph.
I have zero issues with my LabRadar running the quad pod. I won’t be running out to get the garmin any time soon I’m totally content with my LR. That being said, LR is going to have to do some serious R&D to stay relevant in the market.
Oh man, and here I was beginning to think I was the only one still satisfied with my LabRadar and not going to rush out to buy one of these. Also, definitely quadpod for the win
Agreed! If you already have a Labradar, then no need to get this unit. Now if you don't have one, this unit is certainly worth a serious look. It's a touch to pricey for me though, and I don't even know how far it will track the bullets. I think the LabRadar can track out to a 100 or so yards if I recall.
I don’t know that I’d sell off Chrono’s before more reporting comes out now that more user reviews are coming. I believe the Garmin is a great unit and the app integration seems to be there initially. There are some deeper data collection and usability features that I’d like to see implemented though from a user standpoint like these - ability to start/create sessions directly from the phone app - the ability to have data sync in realtime while shooting on the phone - the ability to edit and add shots to a previous session after closing it out without the need to create a new dataset - the ability to log down range velocity at set intervals (i.e. MV/25/50/75/100 readings) - ability to show data in chart/graph forms - ability to calculate true BC based on G1/G7/4DOF models - some sort of developmental roadmap to look towards for potential features that are being added These are some feature available in the FX Ballistics Chrono and presumably they should be able to be implemented via firmware/software updates in the Garmin unit. If so, i think this would really solidify this as the one to get maybe. All that said, i already ordered a Garmin unit that should arrive this week.
What a great product! It has not missed a 22 cal / 9mm / pellet pistol shot yet. It did record a 0fps from a guy next to me but that was the only problem so far. This ain't cheap but I always wondered if my flyers were me or the ammo. When I get a high fps my shots are high. Low fps does not seem to bother it as much as a high fps shot? Ran into a problem that the sessions I would shoot do not show on the phone? They use to but now I can't seem to get it on my phone. I just reinstalled the shotview app so hopefully that will fix it. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Thanks for all your vids.
$599 buys a LOT of freaking bullets man. Hard to justify this device on that alone. I'd love to retire my magnetospeed but it cost enough when I bought it new when they first came out. They are a pita to use but they do work well enough to justify NOT spending $599 on the Garmin...
yep, if you already have something that works for you, there's really no reason to switch. Unless you just have the extra coin laying around. Thanks for watching.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork A blind monkey could have designed a better attachment system. Not to mention the unlabeled spacers. They rested on their laurels and refused to improve that product in even the smallest ways. I have already given mine away and glad for it. It works great for occasional use but for someone like me it was ludicrous fighting with that strap. Whoever designed it was dropped on their head a few times as a child. Garmin ordered.....
Have a LR also, use the trigger switch but this one sure looks interesting, and great video, why not use a ARKA main rail and put 2 of the quick adapters on each end so you can mount it on a 90 degs. angle to the barrel, then it would sit right side up and you can read it. Like how compact it is, pocket size, did I miss how you align it, or how do you ? wait to see the rest of your videos, Well done 👍👍👍👍
thanks for watching. This was just the first initial impressions video. I didn't have the proper mount yet. There's a second followup video where I had a proper mount.
I agree. I think they’re going to sell the crap out of these at the current price, but I also don’t think they’re worth $600. Chronographs in general shouldn’t cost over $400 in my opinion.
On a 22 I can imagine little impact, but i can see issues with std dev and accurate readings when the radar is mounted on the rifle. I would doubt that it accounts for recoil, but then again, i havent used it. I am familiar with the world of radar and its unlikely they arent accounting for variables being: muzzle brake, barrel length, loads, caliber, etc.just some thoughts.
The garmin doesn't allow you to accurately calculate your bullet BC like the Labradar does by giving you speeds at multiple distances. The garmin also "appears" to work like the labradar when it is set in doppler mode instead of trigger mode. This mode on the labradar has been less accurate in my experience. Another drawback on the garmin is the internal integrated battery. It will degrade over time giving you less and less charge. The fact you can use any USB external power pack with the labradar is a plus. So there are definitely still some advantages for the labradar. As long as my labradar is working I see no need to buy one of these but if it ever dies or if I was picking between the two for a new purchase the form factor of the garmin is a big plus. I think they needed a lower price if they really wanted to take a larger market share.
I know quite a few people that have already sold their labradar after buying the garmin. As for price, it is high, but they're out-of-stock pretty much everywhere, so I dont expect any price drops soon. midsouth shooters supply has dropped their price on labradars 100 though..
Got one on backorder supposed to get more tomorrow so fingers crossed. I dont need a chrono really but it would be nice, so with that said im not going to spend a ton of money on one and im not going to buy a cheap bulky one or something that requires set up. But this fits my needs perfectly. I can just toss it up on the bench and record data for each rifle and know my applied ballistics is going to need less adjustments to get it dialed in.
Seems like the best option on the market. I don't really care about tracking pistol velocities, and my MagnetoSpeed V3 just doesn't seem to quit working so it's tough to upgrade.
If they would have made this unit 199 dollars it would have shut down the whole Market they would have cornered everything and sold millions of them but at 600 they fucked up
Hi new to the channel, this product caught my eye.. first great presentation and information. I did have a question. It is a radar? can is track projectiles down range at set distances like the lab radar? Thanks In advanced.
My understanding is that it tracks the projectile within a given distance,(maybe 25ft ?) but it’s not like the LabRadar. The Garmin doesn’t track the shot at further distances.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork Looking at the now absolutely flooded used magnetospeed and labradar market which would be your pick? There are countless used V3’s with mounts for sub $300 and used labradars with accessories for $300-400.
Man flip a coin. 🤷🏻♂️ LR is great when it works and doesn’t drop shots. Magn will work consistently, but requires setup and alignment and negatively affects barrel harmonics. If I were forced to choose, I’d go LabRadar.
I appreciate the response. I understand the harmonic issues with the magneto but there are many many v3’s WITH mounts, wiser & mk machine, for $250ish. I’m also watching several for sale ads on sites like snipershide, long range hunters, etc for Labradars with tripod, aiming device, battery pack for $325-$350. Most of these ads are OBO as well so could probably get them a little cheaper.
You seemed to imply that entering the bullet weight in the Pro mode would increase the accuracy. My guess is it needs the bullet weight if you want it to display muzzle energy - it can't measure that, but with the measured velocity and known bullet weight, it can calculate the energy.
without going back and rewatching this video....I think all I was trying to say was basically the same thing you're saying...that if we include the bullet weight, then the unit can calculate the energy.
Yeah I should've deleted my comment. Later in the video you did mention that. I apologize. Great video and this is the chronograph I've been waiting for - plan to buy soon!
I already like it better than the mounting options on the bulletseeker/speed tracker. I had trouble tracking with the bullet seeker/speed tracker. It was much fussier.
Ordered mine. Was notified of this and late to the party. Found out about it 20 hours late it’s sold out everywhere. I’m on pre order for next shipment next month 💪🏻
This will definitely be a huge challenge for LR but the bullet seeker mach 4 is just a better system. Streamline for actually being useful in a match compared to being offset which makes Zero sense 😂. This will hit the lab radar hard but I just can't see how it will compete with the mach 4 and now 4+. If your on a budget yes this is probably the best option. But if you want the best its still the Bullet Seeker Mach 4 and 4+
I have loved my bulletseeker. Works great most of the time. My issue has been ghost shots. Just randomly picks up extra shots. Even still, the bulletseeker isn’t worth $800-$1000. It should be priced down with the other good chronos in my opinion.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork ghost shots??? Weird. Mine has been perfect. Only thing I do is go from the parabolic adapter to being off. That's it. But the power of this radar puts it first. If money is a concern I agree this garmin is probably the answer. If not I just find the BS mach 4 is just better. I hate stands like LR and now this garmin but atleast it's smaller. But it would probably been better at a more affordable price to take that lr market. Probably not worth the 600 but if it was 400 it would of been better. Just different strokes for different folks. I'll have to continue to see how some shooter buddies like it at the range. I can't even imagine replacing my BS with this.
I'm hoping to pick one of this up soon to be able to chrono my reloads for my 9mm Major Open pistol to make sure I can hit PF. Shout out from Phx from a former CoMo kid. I miss Shakes Pizza. 😀
@@MrMantraMan I'm a transplant to CoMo and what I can tell you is that Columbia people LOVE their Shakespear's pizza. I like it, but I spent 7 years in Chicagoland and Giordanos pizza has set a pretty high bar in my mind.
Not a bad idea actually. Figure there will be a few people run it under the gun in front of the bipod just to keep it out of the way. Especially if you can see the info on your phone or ipad
that was my thought since I didn't have a proper mount. I've got a cheap but good mount now. positions it correctly off to the side of the rifle. $25 on amazon.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork Probably never crossed their minds to think someone would mount it like that. Especially since they had their eye on the 419 mount to mount it to the side of the barrel. lol.
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I ordered this device today to work with my reloading, and it's available in next few days while most stores asked in waiting list for weeks. The Garmin company should pay you a bit of money because of this video clip. Thanks.
Hey, just wanted to comment on "update speed". I took mine to an indoor range yesterday. After my first session it asked to update. I did let it go while I was reloading mags and it completed. So it was no more than 2 minutes.
I have a 30+ year old Oehler 35P still going strong even the ink pad. Bought a LabRadar. Put the sight on it, external battery. I HATE it. Missed shots, muzzle brake concussion knocks it out of alignment.
Already have a LR and MagnetoSpeed. MagnetoSpeed has been 100% dependable. LR, even with an external trigger and aiming scope, has been quite finicky. It's also easy to forget to arm the LR and the downrange velocities are often spotty. All my shooting buddies with LR have stories about its reliability; yeah it works, mostly. With its size, tripod and extra batteries, I needed a hard case for transport & storage vs the pocket-sized Garmin. My first trip to the range with my Garmin was amazing. No missed shots, just turn on, point and shoot. Fired 100 rounds testing 22 LR ammo; not a missed shot. Until further notice, my LR will be dust gathering and my MagnetoSpeed in the trunk for backup if ever needed.
I have the new Xero C1. Going thru setup and I'm only seeing 4 days fields. I think in your vid you have 5. I've performed the software update. Any ideas? Thanks
In settings, I only show 4 data fields, but when you're done shooting and you're viewing the string summary it'll show five. Minimum, maximum, average, extreme spread, and standard deviation.
Hallo Sir, very good Video! I have a question about the new device when it is mounted on the side of the rifle or on a tripod: What about recording when I use a muzzle break with side openings? Are there any problems with recording? I had some with Labradar and bullet seeker. Thank you very much for making these videos.
Any chance you could share the link or name of the Arca mount for this you found on Amazon? I’m coming up empty handed. I bought the last one at Bass Pro based on your review. (Terminus Zeus also BTW)
rechargable battery, but is it built in or replaceable? Midway doesn't show a battery replacement. Can you use an external battery pack? my rule of thumb: wait for the reviews to come in before buying anything generation 1.
Had my Labradar out for the 2nd time last weekend and about 20% of my shots were errors. I returned it this afternoon... I'll be buying this one instead.
I personally agree with you. It’s small, lightweight, and plastic after all. I think $300-400 is where it should be priced, but I think they were smart to price it similarly to the LabRadar.
Agreed, price needed to be lower to rule the market. Pricing near the LabRadar pricing seems just wrong. Other than the price, it sure looks like an improvement of other chronograph’s. Curious on how it will work with pistols from a standing position and how people set it up on the mini tripod, full tripod or just a tube extension on the mini tripod when shooting at the indoor range, placed on the table in front of the lane shooting and shooting above it. Definitely has the curiousness for size, being so portable and how well it works overall.
Crazy high would be the bullet seeker and those other $1000 chronographs that are now irrelevant. I’d say this is just high but I don’t blame them, Garmins not known for being a budget powerhouse and if a $600 product that’s inferior to the one your bringing to market is currently dominating the field, why would you price it less than that. To be clear though I wish it was in that magnetospeed price point too, be patient though, we will have a brand come forward with one soon enough
Calculates BC. Velocities at several distances. (I believe you can tell it for example to track out to 500 yards and give a velocity for every 20 yards. Or whatever parameters you want)
Was looking at getting an FX, then I saw the Garmin, but I believe for $400 more for the FX is totally worth it. Wished the Garmin added BC to their software
Question i have area 419 sells bracket thst connects garmin to ur rifle with their bracket , but nowhere on garmin website states it can handle recoil from the gun if its connected to the rifle !?
Good thing is, when attached with the arca, you can use your phone so it is corrected. Just look at phone and if the device is upside down its ok. Seems like a great product.
PRS shooters that have had these units for some months have been testing that very thing. They say no issues. From a technical standpoint, each Garmin unit detects other Garmin units and they automatically select different channels so there's no chance to read other projectiles apparently.
How much data is saved on the unit? With the Labradar you have an SD slot to save data. Now maybe the Garmin will save everything to the phone and that would be OK but if the data disappeared when you turn the Garmin off, that would be a no go for me.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork thanks for your reply. I save ALL my data on the computer and then massage it and using the SD card makes it simple. It kind of sounds like I would have to save to phone and somehow transfer that to the computer. I don't have any problems with the LabRadar but I sure like the size of the Garmin.
@@michaelnolan8120 alright, noted. I'm open to constructive criticism. It's helpful to know that it IS in fact constructive and not just criticism. You gotta understand, I get hundreds of comments each week and many of them are negative. I have started to assume that anyone who posts a negative comment is just a troll. That's sad. I wish it weren't that way, but it is. To your point, I agree. It wasn't the best option, but I was very light on "B-Roll" shots to help break up the content. I went this route because I was trying to hurry and get the video done and posted in a timely fashion.
“It would have been more interesting against the Fx true ballistics, the labradar is outdated!” I've heard good things about the FX. It actually sounds like the FX has a lot more features than the other competitors. It's also a lot more expensive. J'ai entendu de bonnes choses sur le FX. Il semble en fait que le FX ait beaucoup plus de fonctionnalités que les autres concurrents. C'est aussi beaucoup plus cher. -google translate LOL
Yeah, I mean, BC can be easily trued in a solver like a kestrel though. And technically if speed changes slightly with every shot, so does BC as it slows down. 🤷🏻♂️
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork Sig 226 Elite. Plus it came with 2 boxes of defense ammo and my local shop had 10% off all Sig guns, optics, and silencers. Not a bad deal.
