L.E. Wilson has made a couple updates to the case gauge lineup that I cover in this video. First, gauges are now offered in a new material: brass. This is great because brass gauges aren’t prone to corrosion, and they look great. There’s also a new type of gauge available: the “Minimum Dimension” gauge which checks two things. First, you can confirm that your ammunition is loaded to SAAMI minimum chamber specifications, and second you can check Cartridge Overall Length (COL). Let’s check out these new gauges!

@@Ultimatereloader, how about a new 300blkout video on the Dillon. Most shooters i know are shooting and reloading this round. My reload data, Omega Suppressor, Sig Rattler, Nosler Custom Competition HPBT 190gn 8.5gn Lil Gun 2.080 oal. CCI PRIMERS Max 1027 Min 1003 Avg 1015 SD 11.0 8.7gn Lil Gun CCI PRIMERS Max 1042 Min 1024 Avg 1034 SD 6.8 Which is the better load to you? They all run great in all of my 300 Blackout rifles. The bolt locks open everytime. One more for your opinion. 2.250 OAL 9.2gn Lil Gun, Federal Primers Max 1006 Min 985 Avg 994 SD 9.9 All were 10 shot test. I can live with any one. Some did better than others but nothing to write home about. Done with MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph. Thanks for your opinion. P.S. Do you have a better load to try?

Hey Gavin, If your fireforming rounds and seating .02 off of Jam I don't understand how this gauge would work. Would it not show a potential bullet failure, but in actuality your safe to fire?

Hey Gavin, recent subscriber here. I really enjoy you videos and your methodical processes along with your detailed explanations. I have a question on reloading shotgun shells....do you think hand loaded brass 410ga shells will run in a 410ga AR & magazine?

Can the depth micrometer be used with all the case gauges in different calibers and with other brands?
@Ultimatereloader

Haven't tried! Not sure what the diameter of the other gauges would be...
@Jiminico

gavintoobe I have every gauge and comparator tool Hornady makes as well as a couple of RCBS Precision Mics which are only caliber specific. I also have 4 different brands of case gauges with at least one for each caliber I load for. If the depth micrometer can work with other brands of case gauges that I and others may already own I think the initial cost of the depth micrometer would certainly be worth it, especially compared to and if considering buying Precision Mics, since I’m always going to have a case gauge for every cartridge I load for and will always buy a new one when I start to load for a new to me) cartridge.

As the distance from a bullet’s meplat to ogive-bearing surface varies, using OACL for seating depth creates a variance in ‘jump to the lands.’ Seems to me OACL is important only to assure a maximum dimension for reliable magazine feeding. A better tactic is to choose a seating depth to precisely control bullet jump while assuring no cartridge exceeds OACL for that weapon.
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 5 лет назад
It's really both that are important- and every ogive is different- so the Min-Spec gauge is great for COL, and tools like Hornady's OAL gauge and bullet comparator set are also important (ogive to lands)

I don't know, 163.00 for the three pcs, for one cartridge, then the add-on cartridges, @ 75.00/cartridge? for what, something I can do with calipers and the Hornady kits for 100.00 and no extra pcs needed. Is there something magic that they do that the others can't? Don't think so here, Tim.

@schristiansen3151

High carbon steel is used because it resists wear but it does rust quickly. Like Ironbomb says, rub a little Imperial sizing die wax on them and they'll stay pristine.
