Wow excellent video unlike others you actually give some tactical commentary which is awesome and gives a clearer picture. You should make an in-depth tutorial
That 1st attack didn't go well, but you gained some decent intel on enemy strength so I consider that more of a recon in force probe. Your videos by far are some the best on this game and subject. Your insight on tactics and knowledge of the real battle before playing the game adds a lot of depth and substance to these videos. really appreciate your efforts in doing these videos. thanks.
Yeah, I agree about watching the battle unfold. This game is perfectly paced, you can just sit back and watch the battle unfold, watch tank formations roll across European fields and infantry crawl through mud lol... Its great. Thats one of the issues i have with steel division. Its just way too fast paced to enjoy on the micro level. Instead of watching the awesome models battle each other, you spend 99.99% of your time zoomed out and watching the division icons move around the map. Otherwise you risk being overrun or losing an important piece of equipment.
Nice vid, the cinematic view in game looks great, good counterattack at the end. When you are defending can you tell your men to dig defences, or is that not an option?
Thanks. Units will automatically dig in if they stay in a square for longer than a turn (a defensive ring will draw around them on the map to indicate). Just be sure when you get into combat and actually deploy the units that they stay in the square they were in. You will see a shovel beside them in deployment. When you start combat, they'll be dug in.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm playing on medium radius. Used to do unlimited and it was too ridiculous. I think the AI has a tough time with such large battles as well. This was my first playthrough vid so it's a bit rough, so hopefully the next one will be a bit smoother.
great video Hoss nice work do you happen to know min and max range of on map arty and morters per chance, wouldn't it be great if we had multiplayer, I hear it may be coming down the pipe fingers crossed for that! Once again nice good job! Anything you post about Graviteam I will surely watch, it sure is a great game, your teachings go a long way in promoting this neich game! Thanks again!
Glad you enjoy the vids, I'll have a new one up tomorrow. The range of most arty on the map is longer than the combat map so it's usually tress/hills/other obstructions that limit you (or you can be too close). Mortar fire just depends on the caliber. Some of the smaller calibers like 50mm have around a 500m range, and the 80s have about 1500. You can also check the encyclopedia in the game menu for penetration diagrams etc.
I just got into this game and I have a question: do squadrons that had casualties get refreshed sometime during the campaign or do I have to rotate another squadron in if possible? An explanation would be much appreciated 😊
Unless it has changed, you get small reinforcement of a couple men every now and then. You usually will need to rotate platoons to stay effective once you take substantial losses.
Thanks. One of the devs posted what the colors meant in a forum a while back. Here's the timestamp in a tutorial vid telling what they mean: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wwwacMv-IjQ.html
Nice videos man!!!!! I'm really liking them. Please do some more!! I bought the game but not tried it yet. Scared to find out if my old shitbox pc can handle it.... Its a i7 2600k sandybridge cpu with 16gb ram and a gtx 970 graph card..🤣 Cpu is at stock speeds. No overclock.. The os is on a 500gb ssd, got one more ssd of 1tb size, and a hdd of 2tb... Cheers!
I'll try to get some more on the ground fighting in the next vid. Maybe discuss battle plans, movements, orders, etc, and then watch the combat unfold.
Excellent video as always. I think that haze helped the attackers in Turn 2. I can't believe the Germans were able to target your mortars with mortars like that. Does the game simulate previous recon info or was that just luck? No sound mod? That whistling arty sound is just ridiculous. This game is just begging for better sound.
Is there a reason you couldn't/wouldn't mortar those AT guns? Did your spotters not see them or was there a tactical reason you didn't want to do that?
I have not played combat mission, but have seen it in action. CM is much more micro. Graviteam is very hands-off and real time, and focuses on the macro.
You aren't really "in control" when you play gravi. You have to let go and just do what you can to influence outcomes. It isn't really like a game in that sense, and takes some getting used to.
Different games. Both are very good. Combat Mission is easier to figure out...Russian games are always harder to decipher. Graviteam wins because it's astronomically cheaper on sale. Combat Mission has tons of mods and MUCH better sound. The Graviteam games also have MUCH better vehicle models and 'realism' in the battles. Honestly if Graviteam put a little effort into the sound design (besides vehicle movement, which is spot on) and allowed modding, CM wouldn't have a chance. The CM graphic engine needs a major overhaul at this point.
@@TheWarSimmer Are you using a sound mod for the artillery in this video? I don't want to remove the whistle effect; I just want it to not be an obivous recording of new year's fireworks... :)
@@rogueskypilot4116 It is the Steam version, and the dlc is under the cruel star. I am using a sound mod, other than that it's stock. Cruel Star is a good one to learn on- the amount of units isn't overwhelming.
@@rogueskypilot4116 That's weird. Maybe we have our gfx settings set differently. If you're talking about the UI though, I often remove mine and you can also change some of it in game. If you're running the Steam version you should have the most recent- I think it should be vers 6.0 (find it in the top right corner of the main menu)
I find funny how the entire PS2 Era looking crap game with its overprized 15 Buck 1 Campaign DLCs costs all in all together 134 bucks. 134 bucks for a game thats a pain in the ass to mod and looks like garbage
