This video was inspired by some concepts I gathered by watching Malachy Friedman's work on what he refers to as The HeisenGuard. This guard configuration adds a lot of leverage to some bilateral set-ups for sweeps and submissions.
There are lots of options and opportunities, and in this video, with the help of Jared Jessup, I show the main entry to Omoplata, a back take option, a truck entry and a sweep to mounted triangle.

Been training Jitz for 11 years and teaching as a black belt for 2. Been playing the Heisen Guard after stumbling over Malachy Friedman’s RU-vid post 3 weeks ago and I was sceptical af until a couple of students and I chopped it up and I’m hooked. Ive always liked the guard and especially sweeps from the guard particularly the flower/pendulum and scissor sweeps so this fits in real well with those. It’s a real breakthrough guard and I’ve found variations myself as you are which are equally dope. I haven’t seen the Heisen Guard DVD but I’m sure what we’ve found and more are in it. Great detail in your videos , can you do a sequence on doing bolos, both in attacking and reversing and the different transitions that come from different reactions from the opponent . Cheers

My first experience with Jiu Jitsu was in 1996. I wrestled in high school and was D1 at Michigan. I was very familiar with the mat. A transfer from CA came in and I was warming him up. I was a better wrestler and was feeling good about myself and he says, "Let me show you something.". I didn't think I needed advice from a guy I could rape if I wanted. I easily put him on his back again and he triangled me. After we reset, I put him on his back again and he arm-barred me in several different ways. It's a strange feeling not even knowing you're in trouble until you're stuck. It was a very humbling experience.

Knight Jiu-Jitsu If that happened today, I think most people would know what was happening. That was way back in 1996. I think the first UFC was in 1992 or 1993. Very few knew what a "triangle" or "armbar" was. I interpreted his movements as desperate flailing. I like to tell myself he set up the submissions, but in reality, I didn't see it coming and no set up was needed. It still amazes me how little I knew.

Knight Jujitsu good video. From what I saw these are omoplata transitions. Do you have an instructional video focusing on how to do an omoplata? I have always wanted to do it.

Straight armbar (vertical), is there as well. Head blocked w left knee, right foot/calf blocking shoulder. Attack left arm for straight armbar. Just something to throw in to aid in triangle set up. I'm a blue and that's what I see. Thanks!!
