My friend bought a New Holland TA78 pull-type combine that Ford New Holland made after they bought the Versatile tractor plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Last Saturday Sept 8th, 2017 he took it to the field and after 18-20 feet we found out that the PTO clutch was shot on the 836 Versatile. He went and borrowed a neighbor's 4555 John Deere tractor and after that everything worked awesome! The noise you hear is from the header auger retractable finger guides as there were a few that were missing. We now know for sure that this is the only TA78 combine Ford New Holland ever made! I talked to a FNH Rep. that remembers that combine very well! This combine is basically a Versatile 2000 combine and New Holland beefed up all the weak areas like the driveline, gearbox, grain pan and ect... It was made in 1988 in Winnipeg at the Versatile tractor plant in Winnipeg, MB. It was a very hush, hush project. I worked for a Versatile Dealer at the time an hour from the plant and we all had no idea they were doing this! From new in went onto a trailer fully covered so no one would see it. It went to a company store in Yorkton , Saskatchewan at the time. That dealer did some testing with it but the project was killed because at the same time Deere and Case IH came out with SP combines making a pull type something of the past. It went back to Winnipeg and sat there for awhile until a farmer with just a few acres bought it and he farmed South of Winnipeg. When my Friend bought it it had sat in a bush for 6 years already!
