New Hybrid Cage Feeder Adds Flavour to the Mix

I have been testing a new Hybrid Cage Feeder which allows me to feed groundbait, pellets and particles, in addition to a liquid flavour, without the liquid coming into contact with the other baits.
This new hybrid feeder has a separate pouch to hold the liquid which allows it to disperse freely rather than be absorbed by the groundbait or pellets.
In large open venues like reservoirs, it can often take a couple of hours for the fish to arrive in your swim. So by allowing the scent to travel easily, this could shorten the time it takes to get your first bite.

Good morning Den, more great content! Just a thought, do you find molasses is sufficiently soluble in water to dissolve quickly enough? I realise the molasses is not in the feeder when retrieved back to you, but might it be disappearing from the feeder with the pressure of water on the retrieve? Is there some natural 'solvent' you could mix with the molasses before using it?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 3 месяца назад
Good point Christopher. I did some tank tests prior to taking this out for its first run and the molasses took up to 5 minutes to drain out completely. That's why I was using four minute intervals to re-cast. Of course, a lot of this is conjecture, so the only way I will know for sure is if I get bites much earlier than the 2 hours I normally have to wait. I suppose I'll just have to keep practicing with it mate.😁😁👍👍

Hi Den I've been following you for some time now and obviously we both have a history of fishing in the UK. Mine was with a club in Essex fishing the Roding (mainly). Interesting for me is your experiments with burley cages which we used to call swim feeders. Nothing new under the sun eh!! However, closer to home was your goo experiments. A year ago I made up some burley cages and filled them with small pieces of a kitchen scourer. I never progressed any further with the scent idea but I got sidetracked into investigating amino acids which all UK bait manufacturers use although they only admit to their products have "amino acids". So you can buy amino acids locally (in Australia) quite cheaply. Proline, Cysteine,Glycine Lycine - and a few more. I did a lot of reading and research about Barclay the US company. They have their patents on line and providing you don't market them professionally it appears quite ok to play around with them. Any way you may be one or two jumps ahead of me but here is an excerpt about Proline which you may find interesting. "L-proline powder belongs among the most attractive additives for carp. This is a basic requirement for fish in general. It is a natural stimulant for it is one of the most abundant substances found in its natural habitat. It is also one of the amino acids preferred by carnivorous fish, like catfish, pike etc. L-Proline is a non-essential amino acid. It is important as a structural component of collagen. Collagen Is a protein which comprises a major part of connective tissue and is needed for the repair of blood vessels etc. It is found in squid, fish, crab, shrimp, lobster among others. Appearance: white crystalline powder Solubility: soluble in water Dosage direction per kg dry mix: Recommended for use in carpbait / soak at around 5 - 10gr. Because this powder has the tendency to clot it is best applied mixing it direct with your liquids in which it will dissolve to get an even spread, or smash it first with a spoon." Anyway Den a comment would be nice. Cheers Alan H

Hi Alan. Thanks for watching my videos and providing the information on Amino Acids. I think you are a lot more advanced than me in this area. I know Carp anglers use a lot of Amino Acids in their bait, but I have never tried them. My only reservation is where you mentioned that L-proline is very attractive to carnivorous species, Where I live, that would probably mean i would get inundated by Eels and Turtles. I know if I use anything meat or fish based I get the same response from them. Thanks again mate.
@alanharmsworth7638
@alanharmsworth7638 2 месяца назад
Ok Den I get your point. However, what we are talking about here are two different things. The first is one of scent and the second is triggering a feeding response to that scent. The main problem with amino acids is that they are used in tiny amounts. Proline recommendation is 5 to 10 grams per kilogram of the base groundbait. You can't simply put that amount into a kilogram of base material and expect it to spread throughout the base material. Proline, and I think most are, water soluble so you simply add that tiny amount to a small amount of water for dispersion and then add it to the base. However, you are on the right path to get a triggering response because the secret is getting the scent into the correct place. Tuna oil which is used by the gallon by many fishos is useless because it is an oil based product which simply floats to the top of the water and completely misses where the fish are ie mid range or bottom feeding. In the main amino acids are obtained from natural products and are non toxic. If you want to read more you can get information from Bulk Nutrients which is an Australian company which sells a huge range of products. Incidentally amino acids are used by body builders to increase their body weight. Cheers Alan

National Championships !! Interesting subject Den. Some time ago a couple of South Africans developed a product using Amino Acids. They took that product to the UK and cleaned up the UK National Championships (for carp). Everyone wanted to know the secret - I won't go on from there but eventually this product was released on to the UK market but because it wasn't patented no-one could get hold of the formula. I've got yards and yards of stuff to read about the whole subject but suggest that this is not the forum to discuss it. We could do it by email when you return. I'll post my email address here if you want to read some of the stuff I've kept.

I find that the molasses soaks into the groundbait Paul, so if i did that, I wouldn't get the dispersal effect that I am looking for.
