This map has just been released by the official twitter account of the TV show.
Interesting things to note:
1) Calenardhon is labelled where Rohan usually is.
Rohan comes into being after a great battle in 2510 of the Third Age. Gondor and Eorl the Young fought together- with Eorl being the first king of Rohan.
This means the series is set before this time (and hundreds of years before LOTR).
2) Gondor is not labelled. You may argue that it has simply not been labelled yet, however with Gondor being such an important area, I think that is impossible. Instead, Gondor has not been labelled because it (like Rohan) does not exist yet.
Gondor came into being near the end of the Second Age. Therefore, pretty much confirmed THIS SERIES TAKES PLACE IN THE SECOND AGE.
3) The map extends unusually far East, with Khand and Rhun being labelled. Is it possible that we will travel into the East of Middle-earth? (Or the Middle-east if you will).
This could therefore mean that we meet the two blue wizards, Alatar and Pallando! The pair travelled into the East in the year 1600 of the Second Age, 100 years after the first of the rings of power were crafted.
So overall, what I believe we learn from this map is that The TV series will be set mid-way through the Second Age, before the creation of Gondor and Rohan, and during the decades/centuries of the creation of the rings and building up to the Battle of the Last Alliance.
