Ive owned many M&Ps... there are MANY MANY police depts that have dropped their m&p duty pistols. Google "m&p problems". Theyre riddled with issues. Glock... is STILL the most utilized brand of handgun worldwide, and most used in competition. You get what you pay for. :)

Not true. Price varies across the country, and at my LGS the Glock outsells the M&P on most models, and does as well on all. The price is about the same, though.

Better stippling like the one in the 45 ACP shield Apex like trigger at no additional cost Fish scale serrations on the front of the pistol and move the M&P logo towards the middle Bigger locking blocks front and rear

1. Ambi controls on all guns (including Shield) 2. Longer barrel on M&P Pro 3. Refine the hinge trigger design - FNS does it better. 4. Retain mag comparability - nothing pisses customers off more than not keeping the mags compatible (looking at you, Walther) 5. Plastic sights - reduces cost of the gun and everyone's slapping their own sights on anyways. 6. Better trigger in general. At this point, just buy Apex as a company and make it your in-house custom shop. DCAEK should be standard in all M&Ps.

1) Slide release that works. 2) Trigger more like glock. 3) Less wobble on the slide - tighter fit.

Basically make it like the M&P45c but in 9mm or .40s&w with a better trigger and with a slide cut for optics. And more color options for the frames and slides.

I'm on board with a g19 size m&p. I'd sell my full size in a heartbeat to get my hands on one, plus then it would still fit all my holsters and take the full size mags I already own. I'm fine with the trigger but I wouldn't complain if the wanted to step it up with a flat faced, blade style trigger system like a apex trigger or even a 1911 sryle trigger just to be different than all the polymer competitors. of course they wouldn't be able to keep it at or under the price point they sell for now. front serations would be ok but again, that will bring up the cost. Possibly a chassis system like the p320, so you could own all 5 sizes IF they added a g19 size to the mix. Haven't held the shield .45 yet but the new grip texture looks awesome and seems like it is a huge step in the right direction and should be their new standard grip on all future guns produced. Not too aggressive but leaps and bounds over the shield 9mm.

To be honest, the only thing that keep people from getting M&P, which is a better pistol out of the box than a Glock, is the aftermarket support.

I think they shorten the beavertail on the new M&P Mod 2.0 , and yes some said the frame striker block is built bigger and strong , about a half size bigger , which they say it makes stronger on the recoil .

Nice video. I had been hearing about this... interesting they went ahead and registered the trademark. I too, would like to see a better trigger (not that the existing one is terrible). Also... a good manual safety. Something closer to what the Shields have, instead of the hokey, tacked-on things you see on the 9 & 9C. Even better, would some kind of a decock function like on the P99. Personally, I don't feel comfortable carrying striker fired guns without some kind of an extra safety measure. Another thing... I don't think Smith uses fiberglass in their polymer frames (like HK, Beretta & Walther). Could make the frame more rigid, with less bulk.

Glock 19 and M&P9 fullsize are almost the same size. So they kind of make what you are talking about in the video ;), but I have ended with Shield end of the day, while keeping fullsize for range time ;) To M2.0 it looks really really great, the only thing I would miss is the extended beaver tail, that is feature I love on my M&P.

Pro sear across the line. Front serrations. Texture in location similar to po7/po9. Slightly flared magwell. New 2 dot bArrel m&p's are just as accurate as glocks. I would really like to see better stippling but let's face it, no manufacture stipple job is as good as a custom. Gen4 glocks are good, but average shooters dont like it cuz it hurts their hands. Id love to see apex like triggers but it's a duty gun and therefore the pro sear is good enough especially after some use. Would also love to see the compact grip increased to 19 size which would add a few more rounds and still have full grip and shorter barrel but only if it worked with current fs mags.

agree with your list, i also hope m&p doesnt change their coatings. their m&p sport II now uses armonite. not sure if it is the same as melonite, if the pit it on the M2.0 and it is not as good as melonite, might be a deal breaker

I disagree with you wanting the sights to stay the same. I would replace the rear sight with a flat faced sight to snag on a belt, holster, etc for one handed racking. Something similar to the I.C.E claw sights and I wouldn't mind a fiber optic front either
@bdm1000
@bdm1000 8 лет назад
1. I would like to see the hinged trigger go away, OR, redesign it similar to the FNS which has a hinge but doesn't feel like it. Personally, I like the M&P triggers that come out today save for the hinge. I tell you what, I could more easily pull the trigger on a full-size M&P without sight disruption than my Glocks (before I got used to them). That's what's most important to me. That sight needs to be still. I don't care if it's a 7.5 lb. trigger as long as that sight doesn't move and the reset is relatively short. 2. For my hands, I would like them to widen the top of the grip. I like it thicker like the Glock; I don't like it tapering in. 3. I would like the slide locks on the compact and full-size models to be equidistant from the back of the pistol. I train to shoot ambidextrously, and I do not like the asymmetry. 4. More aggressive grip texture that goes high up on the frame similar to the Glock RTF grip or even the Honor Guard (which I am not a fan of by the way). 5. I think all handguns that can fit a light should have a rail. Although I've owned about a dozen concealed carry handguns over the last decade, I only keep three at any one time. At the moment, for example, I have a Glock 19, Glock 26, and a S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 (when I need to conceal deep). I also like to have a pistol ready to go by my bed. Since I like carrying my Glock 19 when clothing permits, I want to be able to put a light on my G26. I can do that now with the Streamlight TLR-6, but that also means I have fewer options. It doesn't hurt anything having it, so I don't see a valid reason to leave it off. I was disappointed that the Walther PPS M2 dropped that feature. 6. I would also like to see S&W partner with MagGuts springs and followers. They have designed their magazine guts to accommodate an extra round using metal in the follower that takes up less space. That way, the flush magazine on a shield could be 8+1 so it is more concealable, or a 12+1 on a compact could become a 13+1. 7. Striker status indicator. I use it like a hammer to holster on my Glock 26. NDZ Performance discontinued them, but I apparently convinced them otherwise. They didn't intend it to be a safety feature, but I went back and forth with some emails and made a good case. They contacted me a month or two later and told me they decided to make them again. I even sent a message to the US Army to consider it. I think they should just go Glock and forgo the MHS and adopt the Glock 17 and/or 19 with this modification. 8. Lastly, the sights. Unlike you, I do not like the sights. I just don't like three dot systems, and I certainly don't like ones with white in the rear. The FNS has a better night sight option since the tritium is blacked out. You want that sight picture to draw your eyes to that front sight as naturally and quickly as possible. There is no need for the dots in my opinion. That said, I like the Glock sights better than any factory sight on any other guns I am familiar with. I merely changed out the rear sight with the metal one which increases the sight radius and makes it a more durable sight for racking the slide off a belt. I keep the front sight stock because the metal options typically shorten the sight radius and the chances my breaking that sight are slim, and it's even more slim if I were to get in a gunfight which is already highly improbable. If it were to happen, I would just shoot intuitively, and if I survived, I would pay the $5 to replace it because it sure wouldn't happen a second time. Keep up the great work Hegshot, I like your enthusiasm. I believe I am right about what I told you a while back. You're not going to see any pistol with everything you want-not because they can't deliver that-but because the gun industry is an oligopoly in my opinion, if not in fact. If you look at everything that is different about a Glock from the more advanced pistols you mentioned, they really are not passing Glock by. They go out of their way to keep things more or less equal. What Glock has going for it is size/weight, bore axis, and the aftermarket support. These companies might compete, but they do it within guidelines they don't dare cross. I know these pistols are better than what we had twenty years ago, but I could supervise the engineers at any one of those companies and build them a better product. The truth is they don't need me to. This is physics. They know how to build a better gun, but there is an advantage to always keeping us wanting more. That also explains why they haven't released a Glock 19 sized M&P because that thing would sell nearly as well as the Shield, and likely better at this point.
@Thrandi
@Thrandi 8 лет назад
OMG - I wanted to scream by the end of the video! To me you touched on ONE of the three most important things they need to improve. Trigger (it should NEVER feel like there is sand & gravel in the action straight out of the box!), lower the bore height and lower the weight. I agree with all of the other things you said. Smith needs to take a look around the market. What are the hot guns right now? The P320, VP-9, Canik TP9, Walther PPQ - all well known for great triggers. And the P320 compact seems like it is selling like crazy. That's the most directly competitive to the Glock 19.

I never understood why s&w made that damn hinged trigger. It as if they said, "how can we make the trigger different?(other than shitty)?" If the m&p had a better trigger they'd be able to further impinge on glock sales. I love their melonited slides which hardly wear and their polymer recipe is super sturdy which i think is what really helps absorb recoil when compared to glocks thin flimsy polymer.

Basically, it looks like S&W has been waiting on the new US military trials to release their new generation. I doubt they'll change the hinge design of the trigger, but the trigger pull & break, & reset itself has been getting better & better with each newer model made. Everyone has been screaming at them for mid-size M&P, so hopefully they'll finally do it. And if its already coming out the gate with all these upgrades its definitely going to be a strong contender

But to me they have the worst stock triggers of any polymer framed, striker fired pistol I have ever worked with. Today they both field "Apex Trigger Kits' and are finally a pleasure to use. I do understand S&W attempting to keep prices down. However, knowing from the outset that before purchasing one of these pistols that an aftermarket trigger upgrade will be needed to make it truly acceptable is a bit of a drawback in my opinion. If S&W put a better trigger in their M&P semi-autos from the start, through mass-production, they should still be able to make a great handgun and keep control of price as well. For what it's worth that's my 2 cents.

...invested personally in the M&P Shield platform...have a 9mm, .40 and .45...and, you're right, the .45 is the Shield done right. Next generation, again, you nailed it: the trigger. I have had the 9 and 40 triggers done with Apex triggers. The plastic, segmented trigger didn't impress me. My gunsmith's tuned it so's they're both splendid. The stippling? Check. The undercut trigger guard, I suppose. The slide serrations -- and, across the whole slide with the pesky advertising logo shifted out of the way -- BIG check. AND, the slide stop...a small irritation, but it's only half a slide stop...it should ALSO "unstop", as well. Overall, there'll always be Glock fanboys, and they're good, ground-breaking guns (if, as you say, not very innovative lately). But, the Shield line is stellar...and even stellar can be improved upon. The improvements you suggest would also be on my list. Now, if I can only hold my water while they get around to putting out replacement Shield .45 magazines so's I can have the 5-7 in my safe to choose from...that'd be nice....

I love my M&P!! I have tried Glock but I hate the trigger and the grip angle. I just wish they would build a G19 sided gun. until them the sig 320 looks like my next carry gun. I own a M&P pro and M&P VTAC. they have close to 6000 rounds through them. My son has put his Glock 17 and 34 through the same rights be side me. Neither brand has had any major problems just normal wearing. He is much more accurate with the M&Ps than the Glocks. He is changing over to the M&Ps or the Sig 320

Not a problem with the xs big dots. I replaced them after about a week of shooting. I just couldn't get used to the dual dot sets. I got the gun used for $475 so no big hit on the VTAC. The CZ P10 is one I would like to shoot too. But, the CZs with their small grip area on the slide just don't appeal to me as a carry gun. I had CZ 75 race gun back in the early '90s love the feel of the grip.

The new size 2.0s look good except for the fact that they didn't undercut the trigger guard!! The 5 inch has a tactile loaded chamber indicator, the 4 inch doesn't. And the manual safety is still too big. When are they going to pull their heads out of their asses?? They just can't get it right. So I just may not buy an M&P. They've had long enough to figure it all out!! They finally imporoved the trigger so you don't have to spend $150.00 for an Apex kit, which I wouldn't anyway. But the trigger is still split. I don't mind that so much. I care about the trigger takeup, stacking, break and reset, which Smith, shamefully had none, for years. I've sold all my M&Ps except for one and it's getting sold this week. Too little too late Smith&Wesson.

I think S&W with the M&P are making one of the best guns for the money. I use the term "For the money" because that is a factor to almost every buyer. If it wasn't then everybody would be carrying $1500.00 guns. I don't like change for the sake of change such as model changes in the auto industry. Moving a fin on a car doesn't improve it just dates the older model and makes people want the newest thing. It is easy to look at something and say they should do this or that but is has to be cost effective "AND" add a meaningful improvement. I do manufacturing and it is not cheap to make a changes. I walked into a place not long ago and someone who knew who I was came over to me with an idea for one of my products. It was small and he was right would be kind of cool in the looks. The problem is, to make this meaningless change would cost me like $25,000.00 in die changes and make old stock sit on the shelf as people always want the newest thing for essentially no added value. One thing that the M&P could do if they wanted to would be to team up with APEX and add the trigger as an option for a modest cost. They could do this without any real cost to themselves. The fear would be that it would give the impression there is something wrong with their factory trigger. Having said that, the term "New and improved" has been part of the advertising of products since advertising has existed. Even when I was a kid I looked at it like "What does that mean, the old one was no good". New and improved can be a double edged sword.

Hegshot87 Don't get me wrong I like the M&P line. I have a Shield 9mm. For a concealed carry gun I always thought the M&P was kind of chunky. It's probably not any wiser than a Sig P320, but it's still kinda wide. I know ya gotta just learn to dress around the gun, so to speak, but.....I'me hoping for something a little bit slimmer than the current M&P line for the new Shield 2.0. On the slim side with a 15 rd mag capacity, I think Smith would have a winner.
@MnPfan
@MnPfan 7 лет назад
To me it would have the same dimensions as the current M&P45c which is ½" shorter in the grip than the standard M&P frame. Great grip length for concealment but still a 4 finger grip for me with large hands (Size glove I wear) but a longer sight radius for better accuracy and the added weight out front compared to the current M&P9c will lessen felt recoil.

Fix the trigger, it's absolutely garbage. A totally new design, not a patch job. Maybe partner with a reputable trigger company. The grip angle and textures are off, a redesign is needed. Tritium/fiber optic sights right out the box. The m&p's I sold weren't reliable enough for carry, but some people experience reliable m&p's.
@darrinray550
@darrinray550 7 лет назад
wow... a lot of you guys want the m&p with a 4 inch bbl and 15rnd capacity... doesn't really matter for concealability if you keep yourself physically fit... I'm with Jeff Cooper when it comes to that argument. if you are gonna carry, be in shape because if you don't Care enough to stay in shape when almost 100% of all defense encounters are physical, don't carry a gun to compensate for poor diet and exercise! back on topic, i absolutely HATE the glock grip angle, trigger, ugly as a truck stop hooker looks.. but they work. to prove that it doesn't matter between a g19 size and a regular m&p size gun I daily iwb carry (crossbreed hybrid) at 3 o'clock an m&p full size 9mm with 10 8 fiber optic front and blacked out u notch rear sights, double undercut trigger guard, heavily stippled grip, speed shooters specialties esp Maxwell, apex forward set sear and flat faced trigger running at about 2.5# and my spare competition mags with +6 teran tactical extensions.... yes it is a carry gun and yes I have loads of training with it and yes it is completely concealed with just a t-shirt. buuut, I can see the niche for a g19 sized m&p.. would be nice to see s&w do exactly what glock does to get all the police contracts... give em to the departments and sell them for $100 more just because all the cops carry them... not cause they are better, they are not, but because THEY WERE FREE! Hell of a marketing plan there Gaston
@oleboy7615
@oleboy7615 7 лет назад
I don't know where you're getting your information, but there is not one new striker fire pistol that is more innovative than the Glock. All of them are more complicated, but aside from producing something that is different, explain how it is more innovative. They're not, and with the Army kicking the M&P out of the MHS trials, I suspect the M&P is going to take a hit, especially given the recent video MAC has done with torture tests on various models, with the M&P failing miserably. I have not been able to verify that S&W has taken a huge chunk of Glock's market. If anything, what I've seen is that sales of the M&P has slowed somewhat while Glocks still move pretty quickly. Now the Shield is the exception, but from what I can tell, the G43 is selling as well, if not better. The bottom line is that every major manufacturer now produces a striker fire pistol b/c of Glock, and they are all still chasing Glock. How can they produce a more innovative gun than the Glock? Sure, they can add more stuff to it, making it heavier, bulkier, more complicated, and maybe look sexier...but in terms of what a gun is designed to do, what more can anyone do to the striker fire platform to make it "more innovative"? I'd genuinely like to know. If S&W could produce a Glock 19 size pistol (which I too have said I'd love to see) that beats the Glock 19 at what it is designed to do, which would mean making it sleeker, making it lighter, more or even AS reliable, giving it the ability to do something more than what the Glock can do, I'd buy it. I like the M&P line up, and absolutely LOVE the Shield (I own three), but the truth is no one has produce a striker fire gun that is "better" than the Glock. Different, yes! Better? No. Not in terms of what a gun is supposed to do. You may like the grips or trigger or looks of another gun better, but that does not make the other gun better or more innovative. What I'd like to see in the Shield 2.0 is a slightly smaller grip with the modular panels, for starters, along with the Shield 45 stippling. Would not mind ambi-slide lock, but more than that (and I'd love to see this on the Glock as well) would be the incorporation of ambi-paddle mag release. The one thing I loved about the VP9 I had was the paddle mag release system. It is very intuitive, and easy to use for anyone. I'm ok with the trigger, although I think the triggers on the Shield 45s are a little smoother, but once one puts about 500 rounds through the M&P the triggers smooth out and become quite nice by my estimation. That's about it for me! I think the Shield is to S&W what the Glock 19 is to Glock. Phenomenal platform for EDC and GP work.
@Hegshot87

+Gene Cardwell Just my opinion but other companies are definitely more innovative than Glock. They try different things as opposed to the same old thing with minor changes. Does that mean that Glocks are garbage? No of course not and in the big scheme of things it really doesn't matter lol. My opinion and yours and that's all they are but to me other companies are going off of the Glock design and some are doing it better now. I respect everyone that does videos and to me we are all on the same side but most of us and our guns will never have them in mud or dirt or anywhere outside of a holster or at the range so it may be cool that your favorite gun can pass all of the tests but it's been proven over and over by so many that most modern guns will run reliably . That doesn't take the value of what MAC or anyone does with the torture tests away but I do my own thing and if I see the gun fail then I will definitely report that to you guys as I have done my entire time on YT.
@oleboy7615
@oleboy7615 7 лет назад
I don't think you understand the meaning of "innovative". By definition, innovative means featuring new methods, advanced or original. When it comes to design, do the other manufacturers produce a different type of striking method? No. Do they produce a product that is more accurate or safer or somehow more reliable? No. Do they produce a lighter or more capable gun? No. What makes them more innovative?

FWIW, I have one Glock 19, and three M&P Shields, so what does that tell you about what I'm a fan of, you idiot! I do shoot what I want, and who gives a shit what you're interested in? There's a reason I watched the video, and there's a reason I called him out about the innovation, but beyond that, who asked you to chime in with your ignorant bullshit?

+Gene Cardwell If you are talking about the firing mechanism then fine you win lol. But just take the P320 with the modular capability or Taurus with the Curve amongst others. Im saying they try new things with design and features and yes thats innovative.Some people don't like these extras and on some pistols I really don't like it but they are still advancing with something different and I cam respect that.
