New MacBook Air M2 or Original MacBook Air M1 

The new pricing makes me thankful that I purchased the M1 Macbook Air last December. At that time there were rumors that the M2 Air might launch in the March event and I was thinking of waiting, but eventually, I made the purchase when an offer was announced. There was this great deal where the M1 Air was discounted to 84K and with my HDFC card I could get a further 6K off which brought the price down to 78K. Now, seeing the same machine at 1 Lakh, I'm glad I made that decision.

Excellent video! I was planning to upgrade from the base M1 Air to the base M2 Air due to MagSafe freeing up an extra port. But after analyzing all the points you have said, I feel I should probably wait until the next one or two cycles of Air upgrades where the difference between the M1 Air and the newer models become quite significant & cost justifiable.

I bought my M1 Air on 24th May (with the old pricing from Apple India website) and it is still in transit. Upgraded my RAM and SSD and the total cost came to the base variant of M2. I just feel if you save that extra money, you could spend that on the accessories instead. Also, I am a fan of their wedge design and all other laptops that I have used until now are box shaped. So, sticking to M1 which I could have cancelled and taken M2 but, it just didn’t make sense to pay that extra money.

Bought the m1 air 2 days before the Apple event. Saw M2 and was sad. Then saw the price and was glad.

Been using the M1 Air for quite sometime now. Brilliant device. Won't upgrade to M2 Air. I encountered an issue, every time I watch a RU-vid video, and I move the cursor, the video blurs itself a bit. Anyone knows how to fix that?

I'm using M1 Macbook Air as of now which i bought around 80k January this year. I think even if i sell my current at around 70k to get new M2 at 1.2lac. i don't think paying 50k extra for 10bit brighter display, slightly good speaker and overall chipset improvement is worth to spend 50k. I mean i spend 80k for whole machine and 50k extra for very little improvement isn't that convincing to me.

I feel the macbook air m2 is a very minor upgrade and is also an upgrade from a video editor point of view with that new prores encoders. I believe that the 18% cpu improvement is basically like a general cpu upgrade which happens from other brands like snapdragon, mediatek, amd, intel etc. So not at all a worthy upgrade from my macbook air m1 which I got with airpods pro for just 93k with the student offer. I am planning to keep my macbook air for coming 4-5 years. But lets see what the future holds.

New one should have come with 512 GB as standard. I mean 256 GB is bare minimum for a laptop. If it had XDR display that would have made it much more worthy upgrade.

Very recently in fact after watching the Apple Event, purchased the MB Air M1, which i feel is the best thing to do considering the price bump of MB Air M2, definitely not planning to upgrade for the Notch and Magsafe charger. 😁

Just purchased M1 today from amazon for around 73k including exchange and bank offer. I am just a regular user using office tasks and watching RU-vid and Netflix and stuff so I think M1 is a better option for me rather than spending a good chunk of money on M2. With that extra money I can go for 3 years apple care.

Ranjit sir I'm planing first time to purchase an apple product and thats M1 air. I'm from a accounts background and I'm investing in it for strong performance and battery life. But what's stopping me is the android mobile that I use. So is there any way that I can use and android mobile and apple laptop without having issue in connection wise like transferring files from laptop to mobile or vice versa.

M2 Air has issues with 256GB SSD read/write speeds compared to M1 Air. There are also reports of throttling and heating up in some cases. Go for M1 Air with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd if you are a student & with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd if you want professional use. If you do a lot of performance intensive workloads, the M1 pro MacBook pro 16" with 16gb ram, 512gb ssd is a better option. Do note that you cannot upgrade ram in India once purchased, but you can always use an external SSD to bump up flash storage which is a cheaper option.

On what basis are you saying it is 12-15% faster in cpu and 20-30% in cpu if you haven't tested it yourself? Plus you forgot to mention the new better SPEAKER , MIC ARRAY, HIGH IMPEDENCE HEADPHONE JACK. It is slimmer too but thats subjectively better or worse.

I have the Macbook Air Ranjit, as you might recall.. And I love this thing, the improvement is slight 15 to 20% as expected, as the big jump was already made by switching to ARM from x86.. So yeah M1 machine is good enough for me, gets the job done ✅

I think the 92,900 rs on Amazon is because of the old stock. As soon as those are sold out, the price will bump up to 1lakh.

saw many rumours on m1 chip like the ssd lifespan decreased 20% in two months so I got the dout that if 100% lifespan of ssd completed then we can't chenge the ssd then what is conclusion. I don't own Macbook Air M1 and thinking to buy Air M2 for my work. Thinking to get base variant with no upgrades. Also will attach it to external display for larger screen I work as software developer and use Eclipse, Slack, Mysql workbench, Zoom, Postman and browser. I recently went with m1 16gb ram and 512gb hard disk and it costed me around 1.25L INR after student discount(could've gotten additional 10k off if I had hdfc card). I would still say it's bang for my buck since my primary usecase would be lightweight workloads and moderate programming. The main reason why I didn't go for m2 is because of the ssd issue which makes 512 gb disk a minimum requirement for me. Also, 8gb ram used to be alot in 2015 but nowadays and considering that I have to use this laptop for next 5 years, 16gb ram becomes a no brainer. Adding all these things bumps m2 cost to around 1.5L which is way too much for a laptop in my opinion.

It might be a good option for Old MacBook users coming from Intel chipset ones. I’m looking to upgrade from Mac Air ‘18 model to new M2 Air. Wouldn’t have updated if owned M1 Mac Air.
