New Mexico is a state with perfect conditions for solar systems to produce very large amounts of electricity. There are several factors at play that helps the payback period in New Mexico to be so quick. The first is the fact that the weather is cool and sunny most of the year which is exactly what the solar panels need. Secondly, PNM offers a 1:1 net energy metering which means they buy back the excess energy your system produces in the day and is applied to your account as a credit. You can then use power in the evening or at night and the credits cancel out what your evening and night bill would be. Lastly, between the federal 30% tax credit and the state tax credit of 10%, 40% of your system cost will ultimately be covered when it's all said and done.
