I am pretty sure that modern automatic gear selector is nothing else than electronic switches and a bit of SW. They could have replaced those switches with some cool buttons at least.

Unlike you, i like the interior. But i will agree, i do not like that BMW gear knob/lever it looks so very aftermarket and stuck on in this car lol.

But then when they redesign the interior into a modern and flashy feel, it won't fit the styling of the car and it makes it look bizzare. But i would agree that gear knob needs to be removed and replaced with just a column shifter.

Probably because that motor and tranny is literally THE BEST powertrain out right now. I had it in my /M240i and it was INSANELY brilliant!!!

@@raymondnewbill5294 I've only had experience with BMW's straight six's with the 435i Convertible a family friend let me take out. The pops and burbles on downshifts and upshifts were absolutely intoxicating. I can only imagine how much better the B58 is over the N55.

Agreed! In spades! Any two-seater, rear-wheel-drive roadster must have a manual, stick shift, transmission with polished wooden shifter knob and steering wheel as options.

Out of all the cars using that engine, I feel the Morgan is the one that should have been a manual. The Z4 and Supra are modern GT/Sports cars, so I can understand the exclusively automatic gearbox. But isn't the appeal of a Morgan that it is intended to feel more raw and involving?

That interior is bloody awful!! the Horrendous BMW gear shifter has been mentioned too many times in the comments... but what about that Sport + button?? I would be revoke my order faster than this thing may accelerate. I'd take the + 4 over this purely for that reason.

I wish brands just stopped using dry weights. Maybe all the performance measures should be conducted in that configuration too! Would get you a nice 0-60 of however steep the hill is.

Lovely car until you look at the interior and into the engine bay. gear selector is ugly as sin, which is undoubtedly the only option since they are using a BMW engine. Would have been better off continuing to use Ford engines for this reason. Terrible business decision where it seems Morgan has forgotten who their intended audience is.

The BMW Auto box is to appeal to all those who can't drive properly, have spare cash and think that buying a Morgan is the cool thing to do. - just as they approach their 65th birthday and sell up to retire to the countryside or beach. I can see why Morgan used the BMW engine, but Borg-Warner or Getrag should have a 6 speed manual, that's bolts straight on. But then, Auto boxes and their reliability are hard to beat

Absolutely wonderful looking car I love it! This is pure lottery win for me. For all those talking about the gear lever, the cost to develop a new one must be much much bigger than anyone imagines. The Toyota also uses the same. So there’s clearly a very good reason why it wasn’t so simple to change. A company like Morgan can’t develop a manual box either if one doesn’t exist off the shelf. They just don’t have the resources. Great car, wish Morgan all the best for the future 🙏

The cost of getting a Morgan legally saleable in Australia means that it's a very rare site on our roads, but I think it looks great and I can't see anything wrong with the interior. It does look a bit like the interior's we are used to seeing in high end hot rods but I see that as a positive thing. I suspect that after a couple of months of ownership other cars would seem rather lacking in flair. It probably should be a manual but perhaps it was to big a job to separate the auto from the computer. No car made in low numbers is cheap so its not too expensive. I can't have one but I'm glad it exists.

Gorgeous car, a perfect balance of classic and modern design and features. I assume the BMW shift knob is there for cost reasons: not only it was cheaper and faster to marry the BMW engine with its corresponding BMW transmission, but because the knob is so "integral" to the transmission itself (what with all those buttons and LED indicators for the shift positions), a custom-designed knob would've been too expensive for Morgan. and IMHO it doesn't detract that much from the beauty and "Britishness" of this car.

Auto box is just right. With an ageing population they are aiming sales at the older age groups. Morgan's research shows that this age group has more disposable income than millennials. The above is said in jest so more serious point. Did anyone think that the horn/centre hub looked like a MINIS badge?

Well produced video. Someone should take this to 'Pure Turbos' to get a B58 Stage 2 upgrade for 540hp+. That amount of power in a 1000kg body that looks like a car from the 1940s will be a deathtrap and an unexpected missile!

Nie jest aż tak cudownie, jak myślisz. Przyjedź do Polski po zimie, na wiosnę. Wtedy zobaczysz dziurę na dziurze i masę odszkodowań za uszkodzone koła i zawieszenia. Po 2-3 tygodniach drogi już są naprawione i znów można latać. Tylko, że mandaty bardzo podrożały w Polsce i na policję oraz fotoradary trzeba uważać.

Morgan jest fajny pod warunkiem, że jeździsz nim bez dachu. Jak założysz dach, do szału doprowadza świst powietrza i klekotanie niektórych elementów. Nie słychać tego podczas jazdy bez dachu, bo wtedy czujesz dzikość morgana i otaczającą naturę. Osobiście z brytyjskich zabawek wybrał bym jednak tvr chimaera. A najchętniej model cerbera ze stałym dachem. Nie mam na myśli kształtu nadwozia, a użyte materiały. Nie lubię drewna, ani aluminium. Wolę stal i laminat. Szkoda, że tvr już nie istnieje.

First I miss the sound of the V8 - no replacement for that. Secondly, that gear shift knob seems out of place in a Morgan. Third, what are the two holes in the side windows for? They look unfinished and could use a metal through-fitting. Fourth, no manual transmission? So this drives better but seems a mish mash of old and new. Give me some Smith gauges, a manual transmission with a wood gearshift knob, a V8, and I would be much happier.

Hmm.. So the 335HP version of the BMW engine in the Supra, which was supposedly bespoke set up by Toyota themselves (to make it sound less "this is a BMW with a not-BMW looking body"), ends up putting out the same HP as the Morgan version of the same engine.... I'm sorry but i'm not into this bullshit. I get that you buy the same car whether you buy a Citroen C1, a peugeot 108 or a Toyota Aygo, but when you also get the same basic car when you buy the top of the line, very fucking expensive, VW-group Audi, Lambo, VW, Bentley SUV, or get a BMW when you pay for a Toyota.. I'm not down with that. Morgan has always bought engine, but i'd never go for a six cylinder turbo charged. Better car or not (and it sure does look like it drives a lot better than they used to): I think the gearstick says it all, to me.

So.. The Supra was dynoed, it put out the same claimed horsepower that the Z4 has. I can guarantee BMW told them to underrate it's power output..

@@kevina2052 ..and Toyota then grabbed the opportunity to say "we did this", to show the world what a totally Toyota product it is. Well.. I looked into the numbers, and found this "the Euro-spec Supra pushes out 376.6 hp (280.8 kW) at the wheels with torque in the region of 410 lb-ft (556 Nm)". (i found it at motor1, but the story is widely covered) ..at least you seem to get a lot more than promised. That's good :)

Nice looking car i am surprised at a few of the bits left in. The gear shifter why not change that out. A few other things. That are important to a car like this

I just checked the BMW website, thinking that maybe the manual gearbox had been dropped from the option list on the M4, but it's still offered. I'm disappointed that the manual wasn't in this car... regardless of the fact that it's not liable to find it's way into my garage anyway. My 19 year old 330xi will probably be there for quite a while yet. I like it far better than any of the new models. The 5-speed and all-wheel-drive will get my anywhere I need to go, any time I need to get there.

I like the style of the Plus Six. Has a nostalgic tone, the way it whips down UK roads like it was being reunited with the asphalt. And uh, if the B58 available as a crate engine? Is BMW desperate for something? Just asking.

What I'd like to see is a V6 from a Ford with a proper manual transmission. Then it would sound right and have the power and torque to match. And it would cost less than a BMW engine to service.

Can't Morgan find a way to put the roof up electronically? Something like the old AM Vantage roof where the back opens and it folds below and then roof sits on top. Or even just like a standard roof in the new Vantage, Boxster or F-type. Surely there's a way they can keep very similar design language that can incorporate some sort of mechanism for this?! Stopping all the gaps n leaks at motorway speeds in the rain haha

Steering wheel looks like the one in the original smart car!........I know Morgan are quirky, but for 80K surely they could have made a more bespoke steering wheel considering the driver looks at it pretty much all the time!

Automatic fitting for an old school car isn’t necessarily a bad thing but the way they did it here just doesn’t look right it’s looks so....forced in I guess is the word.

Offer an option of alum. chassis, but with no electronic tricks. Steering. Gearbox with machining up to date. Injected inline 6, large bore/stroke ratio , increase displacement to meet power requirements for legal road driving. EEC upgrades with miles, e.g., 5000 mile upgrade "intermediate", etc. Why kill the customer? Or get him arrested? These data are out there. Check the insurance underwriters. It's not just fuel. Morgan should prepare for the implementation of the USA law that permits a few hundred vehicle production p.a. by boutique constructors w/o the usual rigmarole.

I really like this car but holy crap that steering wheel does not fit with the exterior. That'd be the first thing I'd rip out.

Not a Morgan though? Now they're doing away with sliding pillar , separate chassis, ash frame, actual in-factory building (as opposed to our sourced construction with assembly at Malvern) - what's left? Now they're just the same as a Panther Kallista from the '80's. Is it now just a "retro" and not an authentic Morgan anymore?

Wow, that's.... not desirable.... at all.... =| I mean it looks good from the outside as always, but now it's turbocharged and has that BMW shift knob and paddles... No thank you, just... no thanks... (Not that it matters anyway, the Plus 8 wasn't offered in the US recently either)

I don't want to be that anorak who shouts "It's a Morgan with paddleshift!", but I gotta concede, that gear lever is out of place. Can't BMW let Morgan create their own gear lever made out of, I don't know, wood? Or anything that doesn't look like an iPhone 11 docked on to a grammophone. Still would like to own one, though.

A fantastic car to say anything else is sour grapes. Outside the British Isles the best place to drive this magnificent automobile is the coast line of Nova Scotia with special emphases on the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Other great locations out side of Europe would include the coast of NFLD. Both are great summer drives in a Morgan.

Morgans are okay but wouldn't you prefer a real car? My grandmother's Morris Minor convertible had a folding roof like that. A manual, uninsulated roof is ridiculous in a British climate; imagine the experience of wrestling with the roof on the motorway in a rainstorm. The car should be renamed The Brexit, since it stresses nostalgia and is irrational.

I visited Morgan factory this week and joined the factory tour. It was fascinating to see the details of production and witnessing the heritage. However, I also learned that 9 out of 10 car that Morgan produce has the automatic transmission. I think, a real petrolhead would never fancy that. And I also think Morgan is too expensive what it offers, therefore the company is not really targeting petrolheads at all.

So for me... the plastic paddle shifter and that toy-like gear selector is so wrong in Morgan. I mean Morgan without manual is just wrong... and steering wheel isn't pretty either. Aero 8 is just miles, miles more charming.

Speaking as a BMW Z4 M40i owner, the engine makes sense (as it's a brilliant engine) but the gearbox does not. It needs a manual box. That gear shift looks fine in my car but plain silly in this one.

Sacrilege. Flappy plastic German bits and a horrible selector. The body looks good but without a manual box it's just a missed opportunity.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the German manufacturers rely on selling their engines to other companies to augment their business model instead of switching to hybrid and electrification fully. Too many Aryan German Union jobs are affected by ending the internal combustion engine as the primary mode of Motor. and that’s not even going down the path of the number of transmission jobs affected also.Toyota interestingly went hybrid instead of fully electrified to augment their business business model, rather than relying on sales of their motors.

So what you are saying then is it is not just an expensive kit car built in a shed by someone called Barry with moderate ambiguity towards panel gaps and a vague understanding of 12v electrics? Inreality of course Morgan now has a an Italian investor and the factory (near to me) has been given a new lease of life.

It’s one of two launch models. It will change for production. They have to ditch the shifter for a wooden or alloy knob and a manual box option! Auto will have a more retro looking alloy selector or push button and lose the auto stick. Has paddle shifters anyway.

Morgan should partner with Ford and use the EcoBoost V6s. They make 375 hp, 450 hp, and over 600 hp.

What this car desperately needs is a manual transmission (available with the four cylinder engine). That BMW gearshift looks terribly out of place.

Morgan are in real danger of going bust if they keep this up, they need a new model, not revamping the same old tractor, they should have kept the earo max , they have real Talent there but fail to use it, their design dept must be full of cobwebs, A manual gearbox is a must, come on Charles, get it together man and make your ancestors proud and ditch that German engine as well get a Cosworth.
