Hey guys! I am sharing with you our new now struggle night routine of a toddler! Sydney now falls asleep within 5 minutes of being put down and the whole night time routine is so much smoother than it has been in months. We did take naps away but I also follow a strict timeline for bedtime now and it is working so well. Play time, baths, lotion massage, time warnings and routine. I didn't mention that we have blackout curtains in her room as well as a white noise machine. If you are struggling with bedtime...you aren't alone!! I have been there and so have so many others. O M G O O D N E S S I have tried so many routines over the past 10 years for me my step babies and now I have my own baby.. I am one of those people who are always late no matter what and messy and rushed and have no time for me. Now that I have watched this video only 2x I have copied it for my daughter and now been able for the first time to make my own routine and doing the things I always wanted to do. 😋😋💜💜

I work at a daycare with infants/toddlers and was reading something interesting about time and toddlers, since infants and toddlers don’t know “time” or what “were going in 5 minutes” really means, to use signals such as clapping your hands, flickering the lights to give them a warning that you’re going inside soon. When you clap the first time you can tell her “next time I clap were going inside.” Or you can do a different signal that works for you, I thought that was a really cool idea we often forget little people can’t tell time or how long 5 minutes actually is, and at my workplace were guilty of that, we always say were going to tidy up in 5 minutes! Jovana Oh I 100% know she can’t tell time haha I just use that as my signal of warning. That way she hears it out loud & knows what to expect next. That is a good idea I think though. Especially for those little ones who may not quite understand just yet. Thank you ❤️

Her reaction when she saw the caterpillar 😂 also I recommend trying the Hello Bello baby shampoo/body wash along with their lotion! It’s plant based and pretty simple ingredients. My baby has sensitive skin and this works great for her, and the lavender one smells amazing.

Bekah Wright 😂 She has done it twice no & I laugh every time! I will definitely look into Hello Bello! She’s never had any skin issues until this summer. But I also stopped all baby products & was using a ton of new soap/bubbles 🤦‍♀️😬

Oh, my heart! I could have cried watching Sydney still do the baby mouth movements when you were placing her dinner on the table in front of her. It was such a cute vestige of babyhood that will not last long. Glad she's drinking water with her meal. Had to laugh. She is so definite. Wants to go back outside to play, but has got to wash her hands. Good instincts, but a single-minded view of the next activities required. The joy in it is that she does not demand more screen time and she is not a wee drumming protegee who plans to bang away until bedtime trying to work of excess dinner calories. I just get a kick out of how she phrases things. Then she goes from boss lady to all squeally girl over a caterpillar. Aveeno is a good choice for a quality product. Whether adults or children we can use so many products on our skin, we then have no clue what's causing the allergic reaction. Nothing works all the time. I see it this way: you are letting Sydney know the plan to make a few last minute decisions about how she wants to spend her last few minutes outdoors. She will get better at recognizing that opportunity and using it to her advantage while outside. The big deal, though silent partner to that, is that you are respecting her as a whole human being by allowing her to be privy to the next few phases of your waking evening together. There are things one cannot tell a child ahead of time due to their lack of full understanding of timing and such. But it will mean a huge amount to her one day that you did not disregard her full humanity where you could include her as a partner in the family and household. Cannot always be so and it's your job as the mother to know when it is that you must have total control of the information you give her for her safety or your sanity (if a carnival is coming to town you don't want to tell her too far ahead or you will have no end of questions about it). Your modelling of respect to her will pay off in the end. It may not feel that way on the day she is an angry teen telling you she hates you and you do not understand her or what it is to be a teenager. But truly she will learn the respect and courtesy that you exhibit. She responds pretty well to it now most of the time. Massages help all of us. It may not be the scent in a product that's the issue, so the Aveeno lotion may be fine. It is so important to have those nighttime, wind-down rituals. Good for you. And look at this big girl testing the water in the bathroom to make sure it is right for brushing her teeth. The routines give a small child freedom because they know what the parameters are and are not blindsided by everything. If you can anticipate the most mundane things, you are freer to be creative and spontaneous about other aspects of life. They have room to fantasize and flourish within that framework. Plus it is so much easier for an adult to throw off the yolk of unwanted habits than it is for a grown-up to have to learn patterns and certain kinds of discipline to be able to function well in their world. Pleased you are not letting the calendar determine when you need to move her into a big girl bed. You'll know soon.

My daughter went through the same sleep regression just a little bit earlier around 21 months. We’re cutting naps out now since I seen your video on her not sleeping & it’s helped us so much. My girl now sleeps through the night & takes about 5 mins to be asleep 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

We tried everything too! She just couldn’t get comfortable for hours and we still would have to take her for a car ride or rock her to get her to sleep, and some nights she would wake up around 2-3 am.... it just wasn’t working for us😫

My son will be 3 in December. He sleeps everyday from 730pm-8am and naps 130-4 which i have to wake him up from most days. There was a short period of time that i thought he was giving up naps but now he sleeps every day at nap time without any delay

My daughter is just about to turn two and so many people have been asking when she’ll go into a toddler bed so I’ve been feeling the pressure but the crib is working so well! Valerie Stewart I don’t know if it is what helps but we sing the ABCs so she knows when the song is done, the torture is over 😆 I give her breaks when she needs it too. There were times when she was teething that it got rough but eventually she just got used to it 😬

Tres Chic Mama oh I’ll definitely try it. My daughter loves Blippi and he has a toothbrushing song and that worked for a few weeks then she got over it! I even got wipes so when she won’t let me brush them, I try to wipe them.

My daughter is 3.5 and the same with having to have the same and very particular routine. Like down to the number of things we do like kisses and books we read. Definitely need to set limits for how many times we do those things but her bed time is getting much easier as well! Still working on not waking up at 5:30 when I wake up though 😂

Mona Al Shami I sing a song every time & take breaks as she needs. We do the ABCs so she knows exactly when it’s going to be over. If she’s teething it can be difficult. Sydney of course had rough nights with teeth brushing 😬 I hope your little one gives in for you soon haha 🙏❤️

I loved her reaction the the Caterpillar! Also cerave is an awesome cream/lotion that isn't scented. My girl has super sensitive skin and eczema and it works wonders on her. How funny on the stuffed animal thing. My girl has a pile she has to sleep with. It's the same set of like seven. Her toddler bed is covered 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Here my daughter was also a tummy sleeper untill we introduced a pillow at 15 months. First only during naps. After a few weeks she always sleeps on the pillow. Very cute 😊

How did Sydney do with the mesh bumpers? My baby keeps getting his legs stuck in between the bars (he’s a chunk) and I want to get the bumpers but I don’t want to waste my money if they aren’t worth it.

My son screams when we go out. Mostly at restaurants. I bring all kinds of things to distract him. Nothing works. I really hope this will pass. I keep getting stares from people. So I sit in the car with him while my husband and older son eat quickly. So ridiculous. Today I really felt miserable, so I had to watch your videos and see how you handle things. Sydney is the loudest kid on the planet when we are in public sometimes 🤦‍♀️😩 In time, I’ve gotten more ok with it haha I am trying to teach her to use inside voices & whisper. She just gets so excited to be out. It’s so normal & you’re never alone. We also take breaks by stepping away as well. You’re doing great & it shall pass ❤️🙏
