This is beautiful. No wild animal should ever be captured and forced to perform for humans’ entertainment. I hope Toki makes it home and meets her poor mother again.
I absolutely agree with everything you wrote. I can't even stand seeing birds caged. Except in cases where release would equal death, due to injury or illness.
She doesn't know how to be a wild whale. Look up Keiko the Original Free Willy he died after being set free even after he was "trained" to be a wild whale, he still looked to humans for food and entertainment, suffered from illness because he didn't have immune system to deal with infections and stress from being in the open ocean.

It will be hard, but her living conditions will improve. Even if she doesn’t make it to the wild, the rehabilitation efforts will expand the area she has access to, give her improved water quality & provide mental stimulation
Orcas by far the apex predators of the sea. She runs no danger at sea, her only danger is readjusting to life at sea. But if she can find someone to mate with she’ll for sure make. Also they mentioned they believe her mother still loves so that most likely means her siblings as well. Orcas are part of the dolphin family, they are the smartest animals on earth and have the best memories of any breed maybe she can find her pod and join her family

@@tessdurberville711 it's still possible. She was 6 years old when they took her from her mom. Not like she was just born and taken. And orca's have been known to recognize their care takers after many year's apart. So there's hope her mom could recognize her.
I’m so happy! Thank you Jesus for people realizing that no animal should live in a tank or enclosure that small! Thank you so much!!! LOLITA YOUR GOING HOME!!!!
I showed footage of the news coverage from the conference to my aunt and she agreed that tank is way too small for an animal that size. My mom was shocked that Lolita survived 53 years in a tank that small. At first my mom was concerned about whether she’ll be able to survive in the open ocean but once I explained to her that Lolita is going to a sea pen and that it is going to be kind of like what they did with Keiko, she was okay with it as long as they’re not going to just let her out. But I figure the more people in my family I tell about her plight, the more my family will agree she needs to go home.
@@timothyomara6303 I completely agree. It says so on their website. The people planning this move have no idea that PETA made it harder to get her released from captivity, not easier. PETA petitioned to have her listed as an endangered species in 2015 and won. They asked if that meant she could be released and NOAA said that wasn't part of the ruling. They asked a question that had nothing to do with the endangered species listing. They tried to bill the listing as a path to release and shot themselves in the foot. They did not get the answer they wanted so they kept asking questions about her ability to survive in the wild, hoping NOAA wouldn't notice what they were trying to do. NOAA just answered no, no, and no to each question. I do not think NOAA is going to sign the paperwork for the permit to fly her to Washington because they don't think she's releasable and I think the people planning this move know that NOAA is not going to approve the permit for a sea pen. I do know they are keeping details of their plan confidential. I think they know she likely won't be going to a sanctuary in the Pacific Northwest and want to keep her real new home secret to avoid backlash from their supporters.
That is absolutely psychotic. Nobody in the right mind can say they were taking care of this poor animal, only exploiting it. Should be a human crime across the globe.
It’s so sad that poor creature has been living in one of the smallest tanks in the world…but I’m glad she gets to be back home smh all for human entertainment
Lolita's 95 year old Mother is still alive out there and broken, of course. I truly HOPE her Mamma will recognise her but to be honest, I don't think she will and regarding Lolita, she was too young when human beings kidnapped her from her pod. @@ianthescientist8827 She doesn't know how to be a wild whale. Look up Keiko the Original Free Willy he died after being set free even after he was "trained" to be a wild whale, he still looked to humans for food and entertainment, suffered from illness because he didn't have immune system to deal with infections and stress from being in the open ocean. After years of preparing Keiko for reintegration, Keiko was flown to Iceland in 1998 and in 2002, became the first captive orca to be fully released back into the ocean. On 12 December 2003, he died of pneumonia in a bay in Norway at the age of 27. Most sources conclude that the project to free Keiko was a failure because the orca failed to adapt to life in the wild.[24] In Norway, Keiko had little contact with other orcas and was not fishing; for months before his death, the whale was being fed daily.[25][26][15] A report in The Guardian describes the freed orca's life in Taknes Bay as follows: "... until his death Keiko was, rather than frolicking freely in his fjord, being taken for 'walks' by caretakers in a small boat at least three times a week. ... It took more than 60 failed attempts to reunite Keiko with free orcas before he followed a group where, spotting a fishing vessel off the Norwegian coast, he followed it into the fjords that would prove his final resting place."[27] According to an article in New Scientist, "He was seen diving among the wild orcas only once, on 30 July 2002. And after physical contact at the surface, Keiko swam away, seeking out human company on the tracking boat".[15] Simon, Hanson, Murrey, et al. (2009)[14] confirm that he was seen on the periphery of some wild groups but was never seen to be socially integrated with such whales. In summary, "He never integrated into a wild pod ... and could not break his need for human contact."[28] According to Simon et al. (2009)[14] Keiko's return to humans for food and for company confirms the failure of the project. Reasons cited for Keiko's failure to adapt include his early age at capture, the long history of captivity, prolonged lack of contact with conspecifics and strong bonds with humans.[14] There are articles after articles siting the failer of reintroduction in to the wild. Keiko was 27 Lolita is 50 see were it is going

@AngelusGaston I will have a look. That's sad,I was hoping for a happy ending for her. This is the damage people are doing, when taking these whales so young . She would still be alone unless they managed to get other whale's to be with her but even then the whales might not get a long as each whale has a different sound that others might not understand. She should be moved to the sea sanctuary ASAP, NOT in a couple of years! If shes going to have ANY chance of reunification with her family, her mother NEEDS to be alive. Her mom is 96 years old!!! Also she will be able to explore something other than concrete walls 😢, even if she has to stay in captivity, she’s better off in the ocean sanctuary!!! Please help her get there ASAP!!! It’s heartbreaking things like this were ever done to these precious majestic extremely intelligent animals!!! The least we could do for her is put her in the most natural environment possible at least until she’s 100% ready to be completely freed. When they do completely free her she still NEEDS watched and monitored to make certain she’s not only surviving but thriving when she’s let out of the sanctuary. Please help her succeed in every way possible, and god forbid she needs humans to intervene to help her survive, that needs to be available for her, if she needs to come back to the sanctuary if she’s not thriving, that also should definitely be available for her!!! God please protect this precious beautiful creature you created, help her to eventually find and reunite with her mother and family. Help her and all of her kind thrive in our oceans. Please help humans to understand the mistakes we are making with all of our precious wildlife and our oceans!!! In the holy name of JESUS I pray, amen. 🙏

Thanks to all organisations, specially to the Indigenous of the Salish Sea , which are fighting for Lolita ! I hope, we can see her in freedom, soon....without endless discussions.
Even if she dies there she is better off dying at sea than in a cage. It's insane that her cage is only 20 ft deep. They can live under 1000 feet. That freedom will give her life.
What sense will that make. She's been in captivity for over 5 decades. She's been cared for a certain way. How will she break those habits instilled in her to now thrive in an environment she's been conditioned to disregard. Being a wild animal, learning how to fend for herself. Then she's a nomad out in those waters. What if a pod won't accept her into their inner circle? I think they waited too late to do this.
Once liberated, this will open up all new scopes of research to understand further the new instinctive survival adaptation by the orca and further appreciate the intelligence of these beings in a completely differential scale that is yet to be recorded in these whales. 🐋 Best wishes for this once in a lifetime expedition to every stakeholder involved in this delicate project!!
