Today on this episode of DIY WILLY. We're changing the rear shocks on a 2018 Honda CIVIC. The passenger rear shock had failed causing a bad ride and annoying clunk when going over bumps. So I'm installing new KYB shocks to fix the problem.
Not a hard fix just takes a little time to safety lift the vehicle and remove the wheels to get the shocks.
*ALWAYS Lift the vehicle from correct solid factory lift points. If you don't know where these lift points are you can use the cars owner's manual for information or take the car to authorized service center for service.
So follow along as I change the rear shocks on the Civic..

Nice video! Do you happen to know the torque values? Can't wait for the front struts video!

What I found was the bottom bolt is 60 ft-lbs and the upper 33 ft-lbs. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. I also found this and I hope the link works: HTTPS://www.collegehillshonda.com/instructions/civic/2018/4dr/suspensionkit.pdf

The upper side of the absorber mounting thickness is not a same, there is a difference thickness, during the installation of the mounting the thicker is facing our body or versa?

DIY BILLY, have you done the fronts on this? I have installed tekins on mine and I am experiencing a clunking noise? I have replaced the strut mounts ball joints and still? Thank you kindly Sir.

Hello Angel, No haven’t had to do the fronts yet. Have you check lower arm bushings? That’s usually the source of clunking sounds. Thanks for watching!!

Reattaching the shocks did you start with the bottom bolt first and then the 2 top bolts? Thanks
@DIYWilly
@DIYWilly 11 месяцев назад
Hello Matt, I always reattach the top bolts first. This way the shocks weight is supported while the work continues. This applies more to the heavier struts but it’s a good practice to follow.. Thanks for watching!!!

my shock looks good, no leaking, could it be the upper mount thats causing clunking?
@DIYWilly
@DIYWilly 10 месяцев назад
Hello Willy, yes could easily be either of the mounts wire out. The shocks are not expensive. Try changing them as preventative maintenance. How many miles on the car? Thanks for watching!!!

What’s that “lower bolt” 1:47 called attached to that grey thing next the wheel
@DIYWilly
@DIYWilly Год назад
Hello Jonathon, If I understand your question correctly… The lower bolt your referring too is the bottom shock mounting bolt. You will need to remove this bolt to replace the shock. Does that answer your question? Thanks for watching!! Happy New Year !

@@DIYWilly yes and thank you and happy new year too but I got another question, do you know what the bolt is attached to ? Do you know what that part is called
@DIYWilly
@DIYWilly Год назад
That part is the rear knuckle. There is one both sides. I should asking what problem you have? Do you need suspension work?

U failed u Didnt tighten the shocks with the weight of the vehicle on the ground which pre loads the shocks causing premature wear.
