You should definitely do an update video on this, my father swears by Ridgid because of their lifetime warranty but he’s also owned and used DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Craftsman etc.
Me again Dave I’m thinking that 3.0 $129 deal might work out for everyday use! 😅 I can use the charger for home. The 4.0 seems too much! Lol I could use the 9.0 still for when I need some muscle!💪🍻🍻
I have always felt like Rigid was Milwaukee’s test tools. However my uncle is a diesel mechanic and I bought him a Rigid set about 10 years ago that had a drill and impact driver. I can’t remember which gen it was. I helped him build a deck last week and he was still zipping down 3 inch stainless still screws like a boss with it. They tools look beat to death but still run hard. Off topic a bit I am glad to see DeWalt getting on board. I bought the 12 volt extreme combo kit with drill and impact driver and I must say they nailed that kit. I was going to go with Milwaukee M12 since I am on the M18 platform but I cannot get over the fat handles, they are horrid to me. I gave up power for comfort. I am not a mechanic so I don’t need the M12 stubby beast. Thanks for video.
Yeah, mechanic work doesn’t involve much cordless use with extended periods of time like construction so weight and ergonomics only play a little bit. It can only get better, Mac Tools is already changing Dewalt’s features to accommodate mechanics... Hey, Thanks for watching!👍👍
Got the smaller 1/2" 620 break away , enough to pull or tear down things auto or home, with ease,,, got it with 4.0 battery and charger ,from home depot for 161 online.
Just picked up the mid torque octane too with the drill and impact driver with the light, reciprocating saw and 2 batteries and have to say it was a steal at only $300.
the 3 year limited warranty is only if you do not register the tool within 90 days....as long as its registered its covered for life but there is a differernce between 'warranty' and 'lifetime service agreement' and the 4.0 batteries were the standard workhorse battery for the ridgid platform.
Great first use review would love to have it but as a home mechanic i would not get the use out of it to justify the cost but it does look like a nice tools 👍
Dan, I think the auto setting refers to the amount of torque the wrench puts out. The green leds are for both speed and torque. Notice speed is outlined in orange and 1 2 3. Auto is outlined in black and corresponds to the HML. High, medium and low, respectively. Just my thoughts. Nice video, keep up the good work.
dreddey yes, I’m still playing around with it on a 9.0 octane battery. The instructions say to carefully test auto feature out with a torque wrench. So far I still don’t notice much difference and is a future I wouldn’t use much..
I don’t know if someone said it yet but I’m about 8 tools into the Ridgid platform. Awesome tool it’s the next one on my list, but the difference is those aren’t the octane batteries those are regular batteries. I have 4 of the 4amp hr ones and there awesome. The octane are supposed to preform better.
Samuel Williams The Founding Father yup! It’s that kinda week here at the moment! Repair orders are averaging a couple thousand each! ...and they’re not even batting an eye! Lol!
you are right about using a high torque impact for the lug nuts....when VCG put out that video of the meecedes technician using milwaukee tools i suggested he try out the high torque impact wrench and in the comments there was auto mechanics saying you dont need a high torque impact to work on cars like that...mid torque was enough...i say bs...use high torque !! 💪
kingofthecrease30 yeah, saw that. There may be a few techs that can get by because of the line of work, but there’s a lot cars and trucks where you’ll find stubborn lug nuts. Definitely gotta go with a high torque if you find yourself in that situation to be more efficient.💪👍
I bought the gen-5 cuz I keep it in my car cuz I don't want to be on the side of the road 4 wrench trying to take off lug nuts cuz it's so dangerous out there on the roads I like the the clip better is it when you put in your pocket doesn't have that slicing Edge as the earlier ones were there on the Milwaukee the wall and some of the other companies for the old Ridgid give me the clip is the biggest Improvement I hope the tool works out great for you you find out how much it cost to get service are DeWalt keep doing what you do you know and I know more important thing is😷🍻🍺
I have new hammer drill and it gets the job done but the play between the battery and tool shakes during heavy use and drives me crazy. Will be changing to dewalt of Milwaukee
Auto is for Forward only. It stops the drive when the nut hits the rim. One more thought I assume Auto would work in Reverse with LH threads. But I've never tried it.
Pjdr3500 For now it’s still full send for me! so auto mode is a feature that is only slowing me down. I still have the smaller batteries to get though..
Bro hows everything good video for your old dewalt you can replace the housing if if you wanted to i have heard of people having a similar. Issue when you showed the the battery moving a bit lead me to believe a messed up housing/shell just look over the housing and see if you see any damage to it can also spray the switch too I can't wait to see that rigid in action.
Some BMW wheels are pretty tight, can’t be sitting on lug bolts, they need to be zipped off. Axle nuts. Suspension bolts where you add an extension or elbow to gain access, there’s lost power.. The list goes on and on..
@Tommy Sick yeah, I found the 3.0 at a pretty sweet deal and it worked out great. They have the bigger cells, a wider stance and have plenty of power. All the larger batteries seem like overkill, I would use them more on constant use tools that require more run time. With the wide size, less tipping over, and decent weight, the 3.0 works perfect for me.
@@AutobahnDan Thanks Dan! I just bought this tool to replace their Mid Torque which came with the 3Ah Octane battery. Glad to know the 3Ah is the sweet spot
Huh, I'm still waiting on my Rigid 18 volt OCTANE that was purchase a week ago an charged my credid card, they got my money all ready but I have to wait until june 4 to get it, I'm very irratated at this.
chucky chuck hmmm, strange.. must be stuck in delivery. My last two purchases didn’t charge until they shipped. Got them delivered at the door till 2 days later though
Is there a way to tighten lugnuts to spec and not over torqued? Just bought this for lugnuts and may need to return it if theres no way to tell retightening specs....
Lavon Sanchez no, I think the Milwaukee long anvil claims to have torque settings. In my opinion, you have to know what you’re working with, and so far with this Ridgid, it’s too high of torque on most of the wheels I tighten with the 3.0. But it has no issues and it’s a lot smoother than the Dewalt on removal so I’m gonna keep it. Setting 1 is tolerable, but it’s slow..
Lifetime warranty ....My orbital sander stopped working and called ridgid. A few days later I got a call back from them. The nice lady on the phone said take it to a local tool fix it shop they recommend. Took it to them but they are not doing any tool repair/check up until the CV thing winds down. So basically, the lifetime warranty is worthless . At least so far.
c dawg thanks for the heads up! 👍 I think Makita announced that they are initiating temporary free labor and free shipping for tool repairs at Makita factory service centers. One other company I think as well. Tough times!
had plans on getting a nice nitrocat or something to replace my mac a1000 but instead of spending 180 there gonna just switch to cordless tools, get rid of compressor, cords, hoses, generator. invest in alot of batteries and hopefully not have to worry about anything or tripping on shit and breaking my neck
World Wide United pre-orders now are trickling in. You should be able to get yours pretty quickly at $229. Very good price point to start off at. You may have to wait a few months until there’s a promo kit at Home Depot. It’s probably better to get another kit to get a good deal on a battery and charger for now. Definitely a good investment for cordless. The power to price ratio on that impact along with the lifetime warranty agreement makes it worth it!
BEARCITY22 I have a lot of Milwaukee... just too much coverage on Instagram so I just post whatever is new on ig only for now.. maybe some more videos in the future..
I'm still waiting on my 3/8 subcompact. They're saying May 19th But initially they were saying May 8th. I ordered it the day they came out. 4:11... Just so people are aware with the lifetime service agreement if you purchase something at Home Depot if your asked whether or not you want an electronic receipt say yes, it makes it much, much easier. for Ridgid to take your registration with the electronic receipt as opposed to you taking a picture of your paper receipt. I think that is the issue with 75% of the people who claim they don't like the service agreement..... because they have a hard time registering their tools because they don't have Home Depot's Electronic receipt that you can easily upload to Ridgid..... and they take it every time.
Craig Cundiff ahh yes! That order number seemed to make it easier. There might’ve been some other issues that people were griping about, but I don’t remember.. The last time I checked on that 3/8, it showed June 1-8
Pickle Rick I’m currently waiting for good situations to come in so I can show what it can do, plus I’m waiting for a deal on 3.0 batteries. I think the 3.0’s will do well due to the size of this monster. As for lug bolts, some of these BMWs come in with some serious lug bolts. The taper of the bolts against some of the wheels can be super tight! Especially if the wheel hasn’t come off in a while. There’s no time for sitting there with a mid torque gun on each lug bolt. On my particular line of work I need 1200 or more ft lb to efficiently zip off wheels fast.
Don’t buy Ridgid tools, they don’t honour the warranty and you can’t get replacement batteries when they no longer work, they want you to buy all new drills etc.
Rob would like to get to the specifics on why they don’t cover items.. it’s been a while since I’ve heard bad about the warranty, I forgot about the issues that people were saying at the time.. I do know that the batteries are only covered in a kit and not separately..
AutobahnDan Well I registered the drill and batteries as per the conditions and they are supposed to send you back an acknowledgment, which you have to respond to, kind of lame but if you don’t get the email then you are out of luck, I have tried contacting them but no response. Now I have two batteries that are paper weights along with the drill. You can buy them online, third party but it would be cheaper to buy a two drill two battery and charger of another brand, for the same price, $120 CDN. So much for customer loyalty, most of my tools are Ridgid.
Register your tools... they honoured my hammer drill trigger, two batteries and a charger. I've owned ridgid tools for 10 years and they keep replacing them whenever I call and make a claim. Best tools on the market.
