What a difference a day makes! Nice and sunny yesterday and then this😬 But despite the deluge the sound is great and it’s a great video. The side drummer is pretty ace, particularly in the first piece where there are lots of trills ( probably not the correct word but describes the effect to me😌) Thank you for enduring a soaking to make this great occasion visible and audible to we armchair viewers😎

Lovely video despite the weather, enjoyed the music. (I was in Carrickfergus yesterday coincidentally) Thank you. Couldn’t help but notice the difference between this and (I believe) last year’s salute in park where band was swamped with people 😮 😅

Shame you had such a wet bank holiday monday up there. Been lovely and sunny all weekend down here in devonshire. Ground looks pretty sodden to use for the horse artillery and band. Bet all them horse and carriage left a reminder of their presence in the poor old turf. Anyways thanks again for all the weekends videos. Roll on the summer.

@@MrBaton74 My pleasure. Just for fun, Maj Michael (Mick) Henderson is also the composer of the recently played great march Singalongamix also known as Mick's March.

Hello Meadowlands! Haven't seen you for awhile. I hope You're Keeping Well. I'm in Countdown Mode for The Changing of the Guard next Month. Hard to believe that I needed your help with naming the Drum Majors last year. I know the Regulars we have now DM's Chambers, Fitzgerald, Laing & Potts but there'll have to be at least one more I won't know. I look forward to Your Knowledge & Wisdom again & Your Kindness in Sharing it. Enjoy what's left of the Week & Stay Safe.

@@vickyRoyalHistory Vicky! I like to sit back and quietly observe the fun. But, in fact, I've posted more often to YT this past week than is usual. I did see your essay today on drum sergeants ,well done. Although I do prefer the old term Serjeant Drummer. There is a new Irish Guards drum major on the scene. Showed up in one of those videos of drill at WB. Don't know his name yet. If I recall correctly there's also a new Scots Guards DM somewhere.

I think that they play it at the same pace when marching but play it faster when halted.

This is indeed a Commemoration of The Coronation of Charles lll, including the Weather, it was a Day of Great Precipitation too. The Last Video I saw of a Royal Salute was the 1st Anniversary of Charles lll Accession to the Throne & The Death of Queen Elizabeth ll, on 8th September 2023. It included the Arrival of The King's Royal Horse Artillery at the Gallop & Canter from the Right, The Unlimbering of the Guns & a 42 Shot Royal Salute, then the Return of the Teams & Horses, Limbering Up & Leaving the Field at the Canter. The Musical Support was Provided by The Band of the Grenadier Guards Led by SDM Gareth Chambers MVO. I'd only ever heard "Past Time with Good Company" Composed by Henry Vlll played by the Band of the Scots Guards until The State Opening of Parliament. The Band of the Irish Guards then Played it as a piece in the Static Entertainment they Provided near St James Palace. They played it Beautifully there & Brilliantly Here, Capturing the Tudor Feel of the Music of the Time. At the Risk of being Monstered, I think that Perhaps the Reason both Bands play that Particular so well & in my Opinion better than other Bands & Orchestras may have Something to do with their Shared Celtic Roots. I have heard the Piece performed as a Monastic Chant which was Absolutely Spine Tingling Complete with Goose Bumps & the Hair on the Back of the Neck Raised. I've not heard it played by any other Military Bands for Comparison, but Both Guards Bands also illicit an Emotional Response, again only my Opinion. It's a Shame the Weather was a Re-run of Coronation Day as only the Hardiest were on hand to enjoy the Efforts of The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery Going through their Paces & the Band of the Irish Guards ( My Favourite Guards Band) Entertaining in their own Talented Style. I hope none of them Suffer for their Soaking. Another Great Baton Video. Made even more Appreciated by the Weather & the Soaking you must have Got in Filming it For us. I hope it didn't cause you too much Discomfort in your Shoulder. Hunching up is the Natural Reaction when you're caught in the Rain, plus having to Hold up your Camera Equipment for a time too. One hopes your Shoulder won't become a Permanent Weather Barometer as can be the Case with Joint Injuries. I've Missed your "Out in the Field" extras Mr B. You Did Good! Thanks for taking us With You.

Thank you Vicky, first Royal Salute I've been to in a couple of years, to be honest only found out it was happening on the Saturday, made up for the Guard Change becoming a wet-mount. Did take a few hours to dry out though, roll on the summer.

@vickyRoyalHistory Vicky: Since you brought up Henry VIII, here's a fun project: name at least six (6) pieces of music composed by royals and played regularly by British military bands. British royals take the lead.

@@meadowlands1937 Hello Meadowlands, When I read this earlier today I thought oooooh A Challenge! This could be fun. So I got together the Texts in my Reference Bibliography that may Give some Information & Immediately Hit a Snag. My Knowledge of Music is nowhere near Good enough to Identify a Piece of Music as a Military March or a Piece played by a Military Band by Name. I have found some Music Composed by Monarchs or Senior Royals of Britain, but I don't know the Names of Many Marches or Pieces that are played by British Military Bands & also there's no Guarantee that the Name Given by the Composer is the Name Given to a Particular Piece now. A case in Point is Henry Vlll's Composition Known today as "Pastime with Good Company". Henry Vlll named it "The Kynges Balade", in The Old English Language of the Day & today it's also known as "The King's Ballad" as an Alternative Name. I have identified a Further 12 Compositions by Henry Vlll around the same time or earlier, while he was still The Duke of York & in his late teens or early 20's. The Problem is, they are all Described as being, "... an English Folk Song ...". Some of them are not even Named as The Kynges Balade is Regarded as his Most Famous Composition & it enjoyed what today would be called Commercial Success, as it was a Catchy Tune, played at Court, in Taverns & Spread throughout Continental Europe. However, as it's a Piece of Music undoubtedly written by a Royal & Played by British Military Bands reasonably Regularly it Fits the Parameters of the Challenge. I know Henry V was also a Composer of Music or set Music to some of his Poetry. Even Ivan the Terrible was a Composer & Hymnist, as was Francois l of France & of course Frederick ll of Prussia (aka Frederick the Great) who I've met Several Times already in my Own Research into the History of British Royals. There are Several links between Him & the Hanovers & 2 Direct Familial Ties between his Line & Princess Alexandra of Denmark, later the Queen Consort of Edward Vll. My Problem now is Finding the Names of the Compositions all these Royals Wrote & then seeing if they are Pieces of Music the British Military Bands Play. I've discounted "Greensleeves" as there are 2 Schools of thought as to whether Henry Vlll Composed it. I also will need to Delve into the Scottish Royals as I know Robert The Bruce Composed at least 2 Pieces of Music, but I don't know if any are played be Military Bands. I will do my best to find 6 for The Challenge!

@@vickyRoyalHistory Dear me! I hadn't meant to unleash this torrent of research. Although, you did discover Frederick the Great. Following are seven royal-composed pieces of military music that with one exception have been heard at Trooping the Colour or Guard Mounting. 1. THE ROYAL ARTILLERY SLOW MARCH - Victoria, Duchess of Kent (Queen Victoria's mother) 2. THE LIFE GUARDS SLOW MARCH - Victoria ,Duchess of Kent 3. LORD WELLINGTON'S MARCH- HRH Princess Charlotte of Wales (Daughter of the Prince Regent later George IV) This piece premiered at the QBP 2015. 4. MALLORCA - HRH Prince of Wales , later Edward VIII. This tune for pipes and drums is played as a royal salute when the P&D are providing musical support rather than a military band. 5. PASTIME WITH GOOD COMPANY - Henry VIII 6. DER HOHENFRIEDBERGER (Friedrich II (Frederick the Great) played by Household Cavalry Mounted Band as the Approach at Trooping. 7. FREDERICK THE GREAT FUNERAL MARCH - Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia. On the death of Frederick the Great, his nephew composed this funeral march. All these pieces are readily accessible on YT.

@@meadowlands1937 Hello Meadowlands! I think I would've got there in the end, but Thank You for this List & which Band Played it! Another thing to be added to my British Army Military Music Education, it's now saved in my Reference Notes of things encountered in watching the Guard Change Videos & Various other Sources. I was aware of the Duchess of Kent & I'm kicking Myself that I didn't think of Her as a Composer. Likewise The Duke of Wellington March as I wrote a Paper on The Battle of Waterloo just last year, regarding Several of the Key Military Persons in the Alliance, The Public Conceptions & Misconceptions of The Wellesley Brothers through the Campaign & The Regiments of Horse involved with Particular Attention to The Lifeguards, Hussars & Dragoons who still make up part of The British Army today in one form or another. Did you know that at The Duchess of Richmond's Ball on the Eve of the Battle, the Main Entertainment was Provided by The Gordon Highlanders & a Large Number of them Marched to Waterloo still in their Dress Uniforms having gone straight from the Ball? There are actually 4 Reels & 2 Laments Composed by the few Officers & Men who Survived from the Battle, the Gordon Highlanders were Decimated & less than 10% of the Regiments Strength sent to Brussels Survived. History in all it's Forms is absolutely Fascinating & never more so in Military History as when you come Face to Face today with Regiments who made such History. It's very Humbling.
