Always been a cigarette smoker, except for 10 years in the 70s, now back to pipes (6months) you bring up some really great points, and I thank you for that, take care and stay safe😃👍
Mike well done brother 👍🏻 😁 no question you will be helping people in the community...I remember feeling that way it was always great to find videos like this..Great to see you brother on the air and looking well 👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Brad! Thanks for watching brother. I know there are a lot of new guys out there looking for help so I tried to offer some. If only a few people gain something from this video, I will be happy!
Mike, outstanding video to start a new series!! You were one of the first people I viewed when I really got into pipe smoking and your advice is spot on!! I think there is a lot of useful knowledge in this video as well as others you have made and I am excited to see the next edition in your series. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and I hope you enable all of the newbies to share in the enjoyment of pipe smoking and the YTPC. Sharp hat and looking quite dapper too!! Take care until next time my friend!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽💨💨💨 ~Ryan
Thank you my friend for the very kind words. It's folks like you who keep me motivated to do more videos. I am glad to help the new people starting in the hobby. I hope you are well!!
Great new series for new men and women, very valuable ,and even as intermediate piper I find this informative, along with the Muttonchop Chris You are masters, agreeing with 100% your suggestion as to pipes,do not buy cheapos,Best Greets, Paul Moreover, I coming to a realization (even I like those ones with deep narrower bore-thy're harder to keep lit)thin wall deep bowls definitely need some more experience and prudence, pack it lighter ,dry your stuff, and smoke slow as you can -I ve been through all this shit and even today am experiencing tongue bite due to my poor packing and smoking methods try to pay attention to not to buy too spacious bowl size for your first pipe)
Good Morning: - Great video MIke - a lot of very valuable information. Thanks again for giving your time to those who want to get into this wonderful hobby.
Great advice! Where the hell were you in the 70 ' s ? I wasted alot of time and money of crappy pipes and tounge burning tobacco. Steer ' n the newbie ' s right! Good job!
Really good video. I've been smoking pipes for going on 2 yrs now (still don't know what I'm doing ) and I'm still trying to suck up all the info I can. I've watched a lot of your and others videos and take bits and pieces from all of them and use what I can that works for me and I believe that is what it takes. Slow down and practice, try to be consistent. One of my best pipes is a hand me down GBD bent billiard from my Father in law. Good luck with your health, and keep the beginner pipe smokers series. Hey Mike, great to see you back again!! Just started smoking a pipe 6-mths ago. Where were you then??? Sage advice and if any one is starting out and is smart, they will heed your advise. Well presented and well thought out. Like many others have stated, thanks for passing on your knowledge and I look forward to many more informative video's. I hope you will talk in some of your upcoming video's about what type of pipe to use when you smoke different types of tobacco (i.e. a small bowl when you smoke "x" type of tobacco, etc.) Thanks again and may God Bless You!
I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad to be of some help. I hope you are enjoying the pipe smoking hobby and if I can help in any way, feel free to ask! Be well, and Gods blessings to you as well!!

Cheers!!!..........*****👈😎👉*****..........RAL..... PS...my fav is my darvill 1963 2nd Brulor 1960 3rd Capri Warlock churchwarden(i aged it 3yrs before smoking)...to shine them is use Burt's bees lip balm...lol
Great stuff buddy. Enjoyed it. Look forward to the next one. Can you do one on how to taste while smoking? What too look for when “tasting” or “smoking a pipe”. I still find it hard to get an idea on what I’m “tasting”
I think I've gotten some good advice from you. My good lady misses bought me a cheng feng pipe for christmas as she thought I'd enjoy it. I do love the smell of pipe tobacco however I always do my research. I have since found out that the pipe is cheap and nasty and as you say would put me off pipe smoking. I'm in the UK so will be looking for a good pipe for about the $50 price range. I also learned that i need tools for the pipe. Thank goodness for RU-vid.
Really great advice. My first 2 pipes were estate pipes, I knew nothing about pipes at the time and one is just a pos that I never smoke the other is a Bantam that smokes great now that I have learned to slow the heck down and enjoy the tobbacco. Al
Backwoods Piper 1 Smoking slow is the key to pipe smoking. Doesn't matter how many times you need to relight either. Just keep the pipe cool, and take your time👍🏻
Hey Mike good to see you! your looking good in that hat 😊 I definitely know what you mean about not knowing what to choose, it happens to me on Smoking Pipes when I’m looking especially for tobacco and I start to sweat and end up getting an anxiety attack and have to stop and try again the next day ☹️ good advice brother! Enjoyed watching your video! Sounds like you have a birdy ? I used to have a canary named “tweets” lol I miss him anyway take care! Dang I love that claw meerschaum nice 👍🏻 Peace from Welland Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
WHITEFORD PIPES HANDMADE By Michael David Yes, I have an African grey parrot who just loves to make noise when I make a video lol. I still get the same way shopping for pipes too. There are so many now it's like you don't know where to start. My new method is just scroll down the list until one catches my eye and then I stop and look closer. I call it "speed piping" lol.
Great video Mike, my first pipe in the 80s was a bent falcon pipe and 2oz pack of Clan aromatic, after the first day of smoking I had to have a rest for a couple of days as the tongue bite was so bad! Lol! you’re advice was spot on, for the price I think the Morgan bent apple is an ideal starter pipe for the price? I personally now smoke nearly all meerschaum or meerschaum lined pipes, I’m glad to see you’re back making videos, I’ve watched nearly all your older ones and the avoiding tongue bite video is one of the best I’ve seen, keep well 👍💨💨💨 Terry
Smokin' Briar I don’t think you can beat the meerschaums, clean taste and dry smoke, I’ve found that flakes and plugs are even better than ready rubbed in them, uploaded a video last week of my new “Lee Van Cleef” pipe from Turkey and I love it!!!Lol! 👍💨💨💨 Terry
Smokin' Briar this is where I ordered my LVC Mike www.calabashpipesworld.com/shop , another top carver (no exaggeration!) is Huseyin Cor, if you have a Facebook account look him up, some of his pipes are exquisite, hope this is some help 👍💨💨💨 Terry
I think this is a good video alot of information. I new to pipe smoking. I tried a cob pipe once I like the meerschaum pipes what would you recommend for a good starter. You reccomend a few in your video any advice would be appreciated.
My first pipe was a rather bulky briar, has some bend in it. I had about 6 pipes to choose from at that store. A pipe cleaner does not pass through from the bit to the bowl. I clean the bowl part with a pipe cleaner and I clean the mouthpiece with some 409 cleaner or whatever and the faucet which about fits the bottom end of the mouthpiece. One fast flush is all it takes, and I don't have trouble with moisture at all. Never any gurgle at all when I smoke. It's the only pipe I smoke every day. It fits my hand well and I've become so accustomed to it I don't see any need to look any further for any other pipe.
Great video! Newbie here, just starting the journey with so much to learn. I have two questions: 1. Any opinion on Mr Brog pear wood pipes? Some of those seem to have pretty thick walls. 2. What types or blends of tobacco are easier on the tongue while I learn an easy pace? Many thanks! Be well. Dan.
Cafetero Piper I have smoked Mr. brig pipes and i think they are great. Lot's of people smoke them. As for a tobacco easy on the tongue while you learn....stay away from any straight Virginia tobacco and any heavy cased aromatic. Try a light English blend like dunhills early morning pipe. Good luck!
i just started pipes smoking i enjoy it i hav one cobb & one dr graybo . Do i need oner thayn the two pipes for Virginia's & and english's then one for aromatics
Larry Hall Yes you do. English tobacco, virginias, and aromatics all need a separate pipe. Are you familiar with the term "ghosting"? Each of those types of tobaccos will leave an aftertaste in your pipe and putting an english tobacco into the same pipe as an aromatic will give a nasty tasting smoke.
