[ Video created in August 2020. ] My blue 2007 Honda Fit has over 300,000 miles on it. Its starter has been dead for a year. I finally got the new starter installed. And it works!
The original reason is that the car has 300,000 miles on it and the catalytic converter wants to be replaced. In addition, I later discovered that, after replacing the starter and reassembling everything, I missed reconnecting the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor at the air cleaner box. Once I plugged that back in, I was back to just the complaints about the catalytic converter.
@@waltwimer2551 I was guessing IAT sensor as well! When I did valve lash checking and adjustment on my Fit, I've had same issue. So when I did my starter I pulled sensor out of the grommet and left it connected:)
Interestingly, the system considers some problems more significant than others. Sometime after replacing the starter, I noticed that my cruise control was no longer working. With 300,000 miles, I'm having scattered gremlins like that, so I just figured "sigh, something else to fix..." But then when I discovered the disconnected IAT sensor, it occurred to me that that would certainly affect drivability, and maybe the ECU would disable the cruise control as a precaution. Sure enough, I once that thought occured to me, I tried the cruise control and it was working again! Obviously, the ECU considers a marginal catalytic converter to be less significant...
