Man I really miss old PC game boxes. When I was a kid I was big into racing sims (and still am) and those always came with an actual jewel case in the box, along with a 200+ page manual detailing not only how to install the game, but details of all the cars and tracks, rules, how to drive the car properly, basic car setup, and all sorts of other super in-depth stuff that we just don't get anymore.

Sadly Pat still pre-ordered the card. Also, I really agree with Woolie about GeForce Experience. I hadn't used an Nvidia card for years, and the first thing that greats me when I reinstall that old card into a temporary rig is that damn log in option. It doesn't even let me install new drivers through that program. So good damn stupid.
You wanna talk about disingenuous, there was an expo a... few months ago now...? where Intel revealed an astounding 28-core CPU running at over 5.0 GHz on every single core to hit the consumer market this winter... except it turned out they were using a fucking AIR CONDITIONER to cool it and get that 5 GHz on all cores. Which was laughable when, just half a day later, AMD came out and revealed their *32-core* CPU that could hit 4+ GHz on all cores on regular ol' air cooling.
I kinda wished games nowadays didn't focus too much on the graphics and more on artificial intelligence. Many multiplayer games need multiplayer bots, instead of scripted AI.
Are you talking about raytracing? Raytracing is a real thing that involves simulating rays of light in realtime- usually reserved for animation since it takes so much power to render, few games actually utilize it in a meaningful way at the moment. The new Rtx 20 series isn’t actually that much of a performance bump besides the addition of raytracing. The consensus in the PC community is to skip the new cards currently.
Ray-tracing is MUCH more graphically intensive than usual rendering. I've got a 960GTX on my PC and can play Witcher 3 with Ultra settings no issues with hardly any noticeable FPS drops... But if I try to render a personal architectural project with V-Ray it can take up to 1h40 to have a single image done. Most people don't understand how ray-tracing is different. I see this as a move on NVidias part on how to integrate the traditional live-time rendering of games in the GTX cards with ray-tracing from Quaddro cards. For example, a Quaddro card would suck for gaming, but it is fantastic for ray-tracing uses for architecture, design and perhaps 3D modeling. I love Pat, but he's absolutely wrong on this one. The RTX 2080 has the same capacities for gaming that a 1080 or perhaps Titan would have, but with the added feature that it can do something only Quaddro cards can do properly.
As a console player, all this PC terminology jargon is way over my head. It's like in sci-fi movies where a tech person is explaining some tech bullshit and someone goes. "Can you repeat that in English?" Belittle me if you wish, but at I'm perfectly comfortable with the simplicity of a console.
Pat says Nvidia is disingenuous, which they always have been, so it's nothing new. They did the whole press conference and ended it with "It's faster than the old model for this one particular thing" without actually showing any real tangible evidence. It's just using ray tracing, which is a rendering technique, which is cool, but they didn't show any actual data comparing it against their old cards with the ray tracing on or off. Basically people want the frames per second in benchmarks with ray tracing on and off. Woolie says that Nvidias software sucks and they're stuck up their own asshole. And they are. In order to use the software (which is primarily for driver updates and screen capture) they now want you to log in to their bullshit social media platform no one gives a fuck about and wasn't required until sometime last year. Matt says he doesn't understand, but just wants the dumb goofy big tittied babes with guns on the box covers like they used to. Then they all proceed to talk about box art and 90s era installation processes.

I have a GTX1080 and I am happy with it when it comes to 1440p gaming. but I am a computer scientist and the idea of getting a gtx 2080 or 2080ti with amazing tenser core for AI work that will cost a fraction of a $5000-3000 Quadro card that's a good thing. I really hope AMD get their shit together and stop the rebrand and do a big release of a nice video cards that can compete with current gen Nvidia cards.
I mean the Vega 56/64 cards would have been that competition at least in the 1070/1080 bracket but, like others have said miners bought a shit tonne of those cards and caused the prices to skyrocket.

Pat is wrong on Crysis. It's way more complicated than "it's not optimized". It's emergent tech that was supposed to follow a single-core performance Moore's Law as the trend was, and a market that went to multi-core focus instead. Crysis team would need to remake the whole thing to go into multi-core usage. There's a nice video summarizing this on the youtubes you can google-fu if you care.
The new cards wouldn't be profitable. They are being sold at inflated prices and are designed to do more than simple number crunching. They would be inefficient for mining and would never make return on investment in any reasonable period of time. Even with efficient, well priced cards the mining market is crashing and is hard to be profitable in right now unless you are a massive corporation running warehouses full of them purchased at wholesale prices.
We live in a time where engines are way more powerful than what any game would require. We have yet to create games that are challenging to the biggest cards.
Car guys have been rolled into gaming. Gold-chain gamers are always bragging about their card, their rig. Blackbond wont even touch a game thats below 60fps.
Nurse Valentine also to answer your question, engines can in some instances make or break the car. the car can be beautiful, but if the engine sucks, then whats the point. or the car can be cool but the engine makes it almost legendary, i.e. mazda rx-7 also in a lot of cases you can swap almost any engine into any car, depending on the purpose of the vehicle or the amount of money you have for the project. i have a i7 2700k (4 x 3.8ghz), 16gb of ram and a 970gtx i run MHW on medium and i'm constantly 60fps. (1920x1080, 60hz btw) are the ppl who are complaining having 100+ hertz monitors and 4k? also 130 hours in, no bugs (i am aware of the defeat end boss > save game can get corrupted thing, already prepping myself for that in case it happens by making back ups of my save.)
