@@zeterzero4356 true.. which is why I believe RE4-6 became action horror. If you keep the same characters they can't stay oblivious and have minimal weaponry at their disposal. The only way to keep RE survival horror, IMO, is to have new characters each new iteration. As long as the spirit of the franchise stays the same.
They're actually cowardly remakes because they've been noted several times saying that they never should've done it and that they're going to try to avoid doing it as much as possible
Taking just the core of Woolie's thoughts, he is right, that there are WAY too many sequels and reboots of old stuff using the same characters. New ideas, new shows, any refreshing breath is needed for every piece of media. Sequels can still be hype, it's not as simple as "Sequels bad, new good" but too much of it can damn sure be tiring.
I love that Woolie brings up Gravity Falls and saying that Alex Hirsch was right in ending but really he left SO MUCH SHIT UNFINISH that he had to make a comic and then tease even more content for a future Gravity Falls to wrap up questions that should have been answered in the show.
I remember watching the previews of episodes before the finale and listening to Hirsch talk about how he wanted to push the boundaries a little, actually tell a story and how he teased someone might die but the moment people got pissed at Stan immediately getting his memory back he started saying things like "lol it's just a kids show chill out :^)"
Yes Pat the moment Jason went to space was when my goofy sensor went off. Not when he body swapped like Freaky Friday the 13th, got beat up by a girl with psychic powers, or went from some guy in a mask to zombie kill lord 4000. It was the space adventure that jumped the shark. To this day i laugh every time i think about how every kill in that series gets progressively zanier.
That doesn´t make sense, all stories and characters are supoused to have final arcs, at least the ones that know what they are doing, if we go by your logic we would never had any of the greatest secuels of all time, like the godfather 2, the empire strikes back, the dark knight, etc. All those stories finished their arcs in the first movie and they just simply evolved in the second with the same characthers and all. The only stories that are not supoused to have secuels are the ones that the story told a limited event that cannot be expanded, like titanic , seven, 12 monkeys, etc. I don´t care about life is strange or the last of us, but definitely their stories can expand without problems, for example I´m almost sure that in the last of us ellie´s girlfriend is just a plot device to be killed at the begginning and be eaten by cannibals, and also forcing ellie to eat her girlfriend or something, and that´s how she will reunite with joel to seek vengeance along with him, and surely they were separated before because elli found out that joel didn´t allow the euthanasia (who we are kidding, that what the story whats about at the end) and she got mad at him because he let her to become a mushroom in the future XD, mark my words.
Woolie hates DMC, Bayonetta, Metroid, Kirby, Street Fighter, Dragon Ball, and Metal Gear confirmed. Gravity Falls is still continuing too, just not on TV, Hirsch backed down. Same thing happened with ATLA.
@shadow oddly enough this was when G+ started and the one feature they gave you was a option for a name change on your YT account so I just went with this name and never changed it back to whatever it was my original name was before. But this was the early years when Google was not total shit but slowly getting there. So unless they put a gun to my head to change it that shit is not going anywhere. lol

Manuel Mateo Isn't Vergil Woolie's favorite though? Because I think the real question is if he can move on from Vergil as easily as he can move from Dante.

Veggie's been dead for years now, and although he might be back in some capacity for this one (I hope he's not alive), there's been ample time for Woolie to appreciate and understand the weight and impact Vergil left during his life and in his death. However, I can't say for certain.
superc37 I never said anything about ending a series. I know what Woolie meant when he was talking about anthologies. I made that comment to jab at Woolie's opinion because I recall Woolie having a huge hard-on for Vergil and I figured that the thought of bidding a permament farewell to Vergil would make him back-down to a degree.
I LOVE it when Woolie is super wrong, finishes his thought, then yells about how dumb everyone is for interrupting his finished thought so he can backtrack away from being super wrong. Never change, its the best.
What Woolie seems to want is for stories to let go and introduce characters without hesitation, and also maintain a sense of overarching continuity between installments. Cage doesn't exactly do the latter.
It's funny how he thinks that the writers are doing it to tell a new story because Max's finished and not because it's a lot easier than trying to make a secuel when the last game ended in two very different choices (and the only ones that mattered) for the protagonist. It's either this, some bullshit like TWD season 3 flashbacks or actually picking a canon ending and pissing half the playerbase off
Only cowards make sequels... as they play god of war 15, while preordering tickets to see star wars 22, while counting down to kingdom hearts 10, and reading JOJO part 9 and looking at DMC 5 with tight pants swimming in sticky white fluid of their own.
Here's my two cents: If any story, I don't care if it's live action, anime, manga, whatever: "If you still have questions, especially REALLY good questions in that series that need to be answered, you continue the bloody series. If all questions have been answered, and you know for a FACT there's nothing left to show, you bow out and end the series" And that's double if the universe in question has nothing to create a successor. If a successor or new act can be made, you let that thing rock. That's all I'm saying. I wonder which series I'm talking about, what do you think?
A better example in Matt's argument could of been Halloween 3 Seasons of the Witch. The crew on the third movie was hoping it did well so the Halloween series would become an anthology series to replace Michael Myers, but fans wanted Michael back so we got part 4... and we know how that turned out.
I'm a huge advocate for stories with endings. It makes it more easily digestible, it lets the writer(s) plan the story better, and it allows the fans to come together and experience a special event. That's one of the bugs up my ass about One Piece. Remember Silent Hill? I know that it's hard to recall at this point, but there were no returning protagonists and each one told its own story, except for 3 and that was something truly special. Hell, part of the appeal of cinematic universes is all these different individual stories coming together! That's why DC failed: they made one story and kept tacking on other stories to force a universe into it.
I've tried, time and time again, so many ways to explain to my dad that Halloween was supposed to be an anthology. Everytime that Halloween 3 is brought up, he says, like clockwork "what a shitty movie, why would they have made Halloween without Michael Mires?!". 🙃
that Friday the 13th example Mat uses is hilarious when Woolie asks "with no powers?" and Matt replies "No!" to confirm it......that random father posing as Jason Kills more people in that one film then Jason himself had in the entire series up to that point XD
If I may. I agree with finishing stories.........But I think they should keep the Setting, the World. You used Jojo, that's a great example. But a Setting by itself is enough to sell thing, and not rely on old characters. Another example being the Star Wars EU, while they did constantly had jedi vs. sith over and over, we DID get some other stories that were petty cool. Hell, they had a series that was just a bunch of random stories, like Greedo's Father (Who unlike the Greedo we saw with Anakin as a kid and then gunned down by Han was actually pretty badass and a little less of a piece of shit.) which were pretty neat (Star Wars Tales i think it was called.) as well as several other stories, like the Expansion to Empire at War, with the Zahn Consortium. A setting is all you need, you don't need the old character (Star Wars in particular all you need is the setting and name, that's it, I can literally come up with a story RIGHT NOW just using the setting.........It basically turns into Star Wars Metal Gear Peace Walker/Phantom Pain, but you can't tell me MSF/Diamond Dogs with Force Users and Aliens and Space Stations wouldn't be sick.)
Woolie, your feelings match my feelings on this subject to a T. Sometimes, shit needs to just end. It was fine the way it is. If a 2nd part of FMA came out, I'd be pretty worried. Interested, but worried.
The issue is, there are some shows that are MADE to be sequeled and are better for it. Like, I honestly think The X-Files could have, theoretically, gone on forever, simply because the characters are so well written and developed, that there's no end to the scenarios you can throw them in to. So, a show like The X-Files would be way weaker if all we got was the first season, because you'd lose all that potential growth of the world and its characters.
So what Woolie is saying is, Blanka should never have been brought back to SF4 and SFV because his story was done in SF2. You can't ignore that cause that was canon
woolie's first example for anthology shouldn't have been Jojo, it should been stuff that actualyl works with live action or thigns htat involve actors like Kamen Rider, Sentai, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Freddy's Nightmares, etc. speakign of, Pat, all those shows i listed and more have done the "same actors different characters" idea before
It's really unfair to compare Berserk to anything else the guys talked about. Gravity Falls tied itself up. For the most part, Stranger Things tied itself. The problem with Berserk isn't that it needs to stop. It's that a well paced chapters come out too far apart for anybody to consistently care about it.
Halloween 1 & 2 were meant to be the entire Michael Myers story, they WANTED the rest of the Halloween series to be an anthology series but everyone threw a shit fit because Michael Myers wasn't in it anymore. So, thanks everyone; now instead of the creative and always-new Halloween series, we get the same shit over and over again.
When I was listening to this segment, I was laughing to myself a lot, because another good example of this is Hellraiser (while at the same time, being somewhat of an anthology series, until they brought back Kirsty later). It's also funny because Hellraiser went to space in one of the movies. (What's up with horror movies and going into space? If anyone else has examples like Jason X and Hellraiser: Bloodline, I'd like to hear them). Hellraiser just didn't know when to end, and after the crock of shit that was "Hell on Earth", it just went down the road of obscure showings and direct to DVD sequels. A shame, because the first two movies are great, and the original Hellraiser is almost perfect.
But Gravity Falls is getting a new episode and just got a new comic Also Alex originally stated to want to make 3 seasons and a movie and then went on to make 2 seasons with the last half of the second one being filled with irrelevant episodes for the plot when it most needed it (how many episodes did Ford get? two? Maybe three? and none of those explored his relationship with anybody other than Dipper and one with Stan in a flashback) and a rushed ending.

I mean yeah it doesnt mean all sequels are bad or whatever, but woolie has a point about some sequels. Hes right that that is why we live in the world of sequels and reboots. Doesnt make him a hypocrite for liking DMC 5, just he really likes it when people have the balls to make a new thing instead of a sequel.
Man, it's such a fuckin embarrassment that Capcom still feels the need to restrain themselves to the DMC universe instead of scrapping the whole thing and making new franchises with new characters that don't feel so used up after getting their own games...
Friday the 13th: Part 5 is a weird case. That movie is so terrible, you can't pin ALL the hate on Fake Jason. He also didn't become a super-zombie until Part 6, so at that point, the only attractions were the mask and the lore.

Coulda sworn Naughty Dog said Last of Us 2 would be a new story in the same world and that Joel and Ellie's story was done. I'm still excited for LoU2, but I would have preferred an anthology approach.
I like the depiction of people growing fucking old and the world changing. Fire Emblem Kids is so frustrating to me because I want that, but they just pop the children into the microwave until they're the same age as their parents, instead.
I wonder if Woolie played Danganronpa V3 or if Ultra Despair Girls scared him off the series for good. Because the Sequel Problem is kind of a big deal for that game.

Also what the fuck is he talking about, Jojo makes new stories and new parts? It's the same world with the same characters in it, Joseph has been in three and to my knowledge so is Jotaro, and the rules to how the universe works is always the same too.
