New Thailand Visa: Not as We Hoped?

Thailand is introducing a new visa called the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). At first, it seemed perfect for long-term digital nomads, but as I looked closer, it might not be as great as I first thought. I take a walk around Chiang Mai and talk about what this means for those who want to work remotely in Thailand for the long term. On a positive note, the new Visa Exempt rules are awesome! Travelers can now stay 60 days instead of 30 days without a visa. Let's dive into what this could mean for your next trip to Thailand!

Yes, I wander off topic in this vlog, but I didn't want it to be formal. We RU-vidrs give opinions and have discussions, and then when rules get finalized, we're all 99% wrong 😃 Then we all move on and have discussions about the next Thailand topic. That’s RU-vid 👍

@@WalkAboutWayne how will it make a big difference? It was easy enough to apply for a 60 day tourist visa online before arriving for £30
@WalkAboutWayne
@WalkAboutWayne Месяц назад
@@jeffrussell488 You won't have to apply that's a massive plus already. and when I last applied for a tourist visa, I needed bank statements, proof of hotel etc. Not sure if that's still the case. and £30 is £30. Just knowing you can hop on a plane from anywhere and not doing that, is a winner.
@jeffrussell488
@jeffrussell488 Месяц назад
@@WalkAboutWayne agreed that it is now easier to go for 60 days however if someone did want to go for 60 days previously I'm sure that applying for a 60 day tourist visa at a cost of 30 quid wouldn't have deterred them, bejesus 30 quid is 50p a day extra on a 60 day trip. Regarding bank statements surely a tourist needs money in the bank before embarking on a 60 day holiday and as for hotel booking the Tourist visa just needs the first hotel that the tourist is staying in Thailand.
@WalkAboutWayne
@WalkAboutWayne Месяц назад
@@jeffrussell488 Ofcourse all that above is standard. How much someone has in the bank is going off topic buddy. .My point is, you don't need to do all that bollox now. Surely that's a winner. Happy Days.

it would be great if these new DTV visas were renewable at 180 days each for up to 5yrs but will see.. am currently selling up alot of stuff to pack up and leave UK over the rest of this yr and just gonna give it time to settle down and see what happens... worst case I'll just go back to Vietnam which has less visas but much much simpler to be honest... 6weeks visa free or 3months single or multi entry.. they dont have a retirement visa though so thailand is ahead on that one! will see but will be headed over to Thailand a good few times over the coming yrs...

There must be a decent affordable working visa system and maybe the nomad option can work once they release the details. The sixty day option is good and maybe possible to base in Cambodia and commute to Thailand for two months at a time .not sure how many times a year though. I see you found another one of my favourite trip hazards where I just about broke everything during fall. Walking is challenging let alone riding a bike. The only way I see the DN visa being "worth it" is if you could keep renewing the visa every 180 days for that 10k, if you got 500k in the bank and 10k fee that's reasonable in my opinion. Lower barrier of entry and after the 5 years if you don't have enough for another visa like an Elite for example, I think it's more than fair to kick you out. If it's just two 180s in a 5-year period may be handy for someone who jumps between Bali or whatever (and doesn't want the stress or off days to do immigration) but when you can now stay 90-day exempt with the extension? Makes me glad I have a Thai passport and don't need to worry about such things.
@WalkAboutWayne
@WalkAboutWayne Месяц назад

@stevens8785
@stevens8785 Месяц назад
Yes I'd say ultimately you would get the 5 years but after renewing and reapplying for visas at cost again and again, so yeah, what has really changed. They are not going to stop collecting the income that is currently flowing into their coffers in the long term. The 60 days exemption from the need to obtain a visa is fantastic and will encourage more travellers to Thailand and to stay longer and pump plenty of dosh into their economy. No coincidence this has surfaced as tourism drops off during the low season. It may just return back to 30 days come Christmas and beyond until this time next year and then change back to the 60 days in a cyclical nature. Cheers Wayne. 🤩
